Do you want Modded server or Vanilla server? (or both?)

I'd feel that the point had been missed. Playing vanilla is all about resource gathering and creating impressive looking structures. Sure, some of them can be functional, but, without the super-powers of SethBling, it's impossible to get them to do very much.

On the other hand, playing on a modded server allows you to do so much more. People can and will play as though it's just an extension of vanilla -- building impressive looking structures, but with a few extra block types and nice cosmetic tweaks -- but so much more is possible. There are fascinating synergies that exist between different mods that make it possible to build huge, complex, Rube Goldberg style machines, and if that possibility is taken away then a whole dimension will be missing.

On the list of mods to be axed are Applied Energistics, ComputerCraft and MineFactory Reloaded. These are the three mods that have made MafiaCraft 1.x worth playing for me. Without them I'm not sure I'd be able to find much that I'd want to do. Also, EE3 is something I use all the time. It may be that there are some cheaty exploits available (e.g. infinite blaze rods) but it does allow me to concentrate on making cool stuff more and resource gathering less.

So there are my views. There are other mods I'd like included and others I think should be consigned to the seventh circle of hell, but I wanted initially just to concentrate on what's most important to me. Any comments, anyone?

Those are four mods I was going to include in the "additions" i was talking about previously, Dappy. AE HAS had some problems recently, but I think it's more or less just AE not liking SecretRooms (which I despise anyway). EE3 is a VERY important mod for me. IMO: There is no reason CC SHOULDN'T be included, as it adds no world gen and has never had any kind of problems. MFRL is a really good source of a lot of different things, too.

I would not want to be an admin, op, or playing if we were running a pack anything like that. Like scroo said, it completely misses the point of modded minecraft and cuts out most of what makes it enjoyable.

Vanilla for now. My computer is a piece of crap, so I'm not especially keen on downloading something extra just to play (although given the Modded's version, that would allow me to play with my Zelda texturepack...).

Question: Is there any limits on our own Mods? I have Rei's Minimap installed, simply because I have a nasty habit of getting lost while exploring and losing my house.

Also, do you guys do any sort of audio chat while playing? I like playing Minecraft more as a social experience.

I don't think we have much of a policy on client mods. Rei's would be fine. Xray texture packs would frowned on. But as vanilla is on and always will be on the most recent release, i'm not sure any mod is going to work for you on the server, because mods are usually at least a version behind. We might overlap the timeframe where 1.6 mods are starting to become available before the next round of snapshots start coming out maybe.

We don't use any audio chat while playing, but we do use the ingame chat, and we have an IRC channel. Unfortunately IRC and the vanilla server are not linked together due to the above (latest release, no mods, etc). But yes, our servers are usually considered a very social experience regardless of the above constraints.

pedit: what klaz said

Guys I'll get on IRC later and we can start to iron out what to do about FTB and me being the admin. I may be on sooner but it won't have my full attention until like hours after 10-ish.

I always use Skype to chat when I'm on a private server that I play on. It gives a feeling of connectivity, even when you're doing your own thing.

I feel pretty connected with just chat and likely wouldn't use skype or any other voice were it set up, and I will not be setting up or supporting voice chat as part of my
reign of terror
admin responsibilities on FTB. If others want to skype while playing, you all can go set something up amongst yourselves.

A few of us use skype sometimes. Myself, Blake, Mist(sometimes), M(when he feels like it), so I wouldn't be opposed to it.
Also, if it helps, you can download optifine and turned all the advanced features off. Makes it run much faster. :3
For the modded server, that is.

Back in the Claus/me/Xalxe era a bunch of us used to Skype all the time. And we did PvP and challenges and stuff on weekends. I'd kind of like to get back to that, actually.
