I also disagree with rob's fears. Setting up a nether railway, while intensive, is rewarding. Also more fun than warps and TPs.
Whatever we do, NOW is the time to do it. Summer is when server activity has ALWAYS increased, and will ALWAYS increase, with not as great but still AN increase at Christmas activity.

From now until the private pack releases, I am hosting a Hardcore Survival world around-the-clock on my server. Few things you should know:
1. The difficulty is hard and this is hardcore survival. Be aware that hardcore means that death results in a ban from the server.
2. This is NOT a PvP server. It is co-operative. PvP is disabled entirely.
3. A block of diamond currently equates to a single revive. I must be online to redeem a revive, as must the person who is being revived. Reviving someone involves me taking the server down temporarily, doing some trickery with the person who died, and then throwing it back up. The material required to revive someone will scale - if a block of diamond is no longer scarce, the requirements to revive someone will increase.
4. Don't be a dick - this covers everything I don't feel like writing out that should be common sense.

UPDATE: chkflip joins the village. I'm living out of the Blacksmith, Maruchan and davroe are in the Church, Rob is in a Library, and Klaz is in the Butcher's shop. davroe got 12 diamonds since the last update, which he used to make a Diamond Pick and an Enchanting Table (since Rob & Klaz were already offline at that point waiting till morning had to happen anyway...) the farms I've kindof upgraded to be more efficient, I was barely done harvesting half of them when I had 2 stacks of Wheat after a VERY successful mining trip (which yielded 1.5 stacks of Iron - davroe and I are decked out now too)
dav's currently working on the Enchanting Library on top of the blacksmith (lol, not my idea but whatev) so I think we'll need to find some cows soon gents - if anybody wants to get on that...? EDIT: Sugar Cane is nearby across the river IIRC. I can just tweak one of the existing farms for Cane and that should be fine

Oooookay, so I haven't read everything in great detail, but I'll say a few things anyway.
1. I will pretty much go where the community goes, restarts or not, vanilla or modded. Just not TerraFirmaCraft.
2. I am against a vanilla server restert FOR NOW. There are still rumblings of a Biomes Update in the future; one that will massively change world generation. I say we restart when, and only when, an update like that comes along.
3. WOOOOO TIERCE! This stuff is much better than Voltz.
4. Huh, hardcore co-op server? That's... different. Maybe I'll try it out later.

Trying to run the modpack through MultiMC and Forge isn't downloading the files properly. Might just be a server problem on their end though - I'll try again in a bit.

2- You guys should reset vanilla, and make the server always run the latest, bleeding-edgest snapshot, and no mods (not even bukkit). Wild wild west style. I volunteer to archive the old vanilla world.
