As a general rule, if you have to spend time to remove large parts of a mod in order to make it even usable, then it's not a mod we should really be interested in.
By the way - I want to throw in my 2 cents in written form about the ongoing poll. I think that we should have server restarts every 6 or 12 months. After that time, all of the people on-server will have basically reached beyond endgame months ago and will be starting to get bored. These server restarts should be timed to be the beginning of summerish and Christmas time (or just summer, if it's 12 months), so that people have vacations, etc. to put time into the server right after it restarts.
Every server restart should be accompanied by world files being uploaded online by Maru to allow people to continue in SSP if they so wish, so that content isn't "lost", so to speak.
And to clarify my earlier thoughts on server stuff when I quit before. I wasn't mad about the server restarting. I was mad about the server restarting unexpectedly and while I was in the middle of working on stuff. I hated losing progress on mods that I was working towards endgame on - nuclear tech, for instance. If we put server restarts far enough out that such a thing doesn't happen (everyone already has endgame), I don't think a restart is a problem.

Izak, are you available in the next twelve hours to get on IRC. if we don't get this done today I'll just get M and klaz when they're both on then PM you our logs and see if you have anything to add

if we go with a stable world and not updating from now on, once there starts to be a general tone of people I here grumbling about new features they wish they had or see the odd comments arise about "when will XXX happen", I'll do testing myself to see if the update wanted breaks worlds, and if it does, I'll post polls asking if the community wants it.

For the last time: what I want to do with GregTech is not changing it, or removing ANY parts of it. It is stopping it from changing OTHER mods, which is people's main issue with it.

What about people that want to make big build? What about people who take their time over it? What about people who inevitably start late or take a break at some point, and as a result never reach "beyond endgame"? You are massively over-generalising the situation.

Yet again: if we are collectively incapable of getting together at the same time without someone not turning up or going to play starcraft, is this really not something we can handle through PMs?

no it really isn't. It's to extensive a discussion. the back and forth would take months.

Go for it, just make sure once you've got the files on your machine you make a second copy of them and load up the world in single player to make sure it's not corrupted or anything.

Also maybe put the essential files (region files, player files, and config) on mediafire in case your hard drive implodes while you're updating it?

So this goes nowhere near as much info as everyone has been near BEGGING for this past month or tow, nor does it go anywhere NEAR the info the mods have already discussed/agreed/disagreed/conferred on/etc. This is just one thing that was one guarantee, set-in-stone, tidbit I thought you might all enjoy knowing. Don't ask for more info, it either doesn't exist, nor will it come forth if it DOES exist. If you're lucky enough to get bits and pieces of more info from IRC when one of the admins makes a comment or asks a question, or if you get dragged into OP talks for whatever bits or pieces you get dragged into (Most of the prominent members have been dragged in for at least 1 bit so far), then lucky you.
Other than that, There is no more info set in stone yet, and asking won't make it happen quicker.
ANYWAYS FOR THE GOOD PART YOU ALL PROLLY ACTUALLY WANT:
The next update to the server (which could happen tomorrow (lolyeahright) or in 5 years WE DON'T KNOW YET), will be to 1.5.X or (if it takes that long and everything we want is updated etc) 1.6.X. We won't be using 1.4.X
