I was under the impression that this has always been the case, as during the 1st Half of the 2011 judging, we had an issue where only 1 of the 6 or so selected judges was actually able to judge the Best Town Performance category and we just left the thread until the SSC came up with a solution.

If we want those categories to be better represented in the Best Set-up nominations, what we could do is ask the relevant list mods to take a look at year's end? I'd also be willing to do it otherwise.
This has merit, but the problem is you're comparing apples to oranges with Themes vs. Normals. You can do a lot in a Theme, be it Large or Mini, that you just simply can't do in a Normal or Open game.
Nobody walks around wearing the golden fedora and looking snazzy (and indeed it would look snazzy), to me it's just like something you would put on their coffin as it gets lowered into the ground, to honor their memory.
It seems to me as "Name in Orange" is something that should be given to non-admins that are doing great work. On the other hand, it would be super strange to give "Golden Fedora" to non-admins / non-list mods, given that if someone has done such a lifetime body of work for the site to deserve the super ultimate award, he should have been admin'ed 5 years ago. The two titles seem to fit different purposes.

But you're basically stipulating that no one should get it unless they
leave the site
.
If someone did awesome work over a sustained period, and then after so many years decided to just step back from that but still wanted to be a part of the community, we shouldn't not recognize their work because "Ahwp, they're hanging around. They're still a part of the community."

To me, Name In Orange is "you aren't/weren't/haven't been an admin/mod but you're AWESOME and deserve recognition," while the Golden Fedora is "you WERE a mod/admin and have been so damn spectacular that you deserve recognition."

Here's a scummies idea. I think in the future, "favorite game" should go ONLY to the mod(s) of the favorite game, not everyone in it. Using this years example, I think it somewhat dilutes the title for zor when it also goes to everyone who PLAYED in his game; and on the other side, I kinda feel that it's silly to have my animated thing saying "designed best setup...AND ALSO PLAYED IN A PRETTY FUN GAME!"

Yeah, it's kind of like a group performance like town/scum awards. Even if you're the one prodded 10 times, have the least amount of posts, or replaced in the last day, you still get the scummy.
I have suggested we don't hand out awards for individuals with Most Enjoyable Game, but instead award that game with a Game of the Year title and put it in a Hall of Fame.

This seems like a pretty fair compromise.
Also like Reck's idea, but on combination with this.
reck's idea is just basically "it's a scummy but not really so no badges", idk being in an enjoyable game is enough for me as a player, i don't need a badge to say it? let the mod just have it, it looks silly with everyone running around with favourite game badges i think
are you thinking of me when you're with somebody else?

I don't want the profile badges to come into existence. I made a stink about it and gamification when they were discussed earlier like a year or so ago.
I don't really care if a proper topic is made. I just wanted to know if they were in the pipe line. Since they are, I don't think my complaints will stop it from coming into existence.
i think i misunderstood what you said tbh. as i'm not sure what you're talking about now. i thought you were referring to the fact your scummie should be "most memorable moment"
