Forestry Update:

Bees- I've got 10 Apiaries up and running now. I'm working towards 3 goals: 1) breeding bees with high pollination, 2) breeding in nocturnal into all my bees, and 3) breeding bees that produce silky propolis so I can make the bee suit armor. My main goal is to get all the forestry trees so I'm not too concerned on working through all the different bee lines. I'm basically swimming in extra drones now.

Trees- Haven't been going as smoothly. I started with the 4 vanilla trees, and quickly got Mundane Larch, my first new forestry mod tree. Right now I should have the prerequisites for Silver Lime and Bull Pine, but the leaves never give me the mutation. I just keep getting more and more mundane larch and vanilla mutations. Do you guys know, do I have to occasionally cut down and replant the new cross bred saplings in order to eventually breed-in the chance for mutations or am I just very unlucky?

Overall, I'm having fun with my bees and trees, but it is a constant effort, fueling my engines to keep the centrifuge running to keep producing my combs into honey to be able to beealyze my new bees and keep the cycle going. I really need to find a more efficient, maintenance-free engine/fuel combo because right now I'm going through (and wasting) a lot of charcoal. Any suggestions? Whats the next step up from stirling engines?

You could go to combustion engines, but unless you want to get into BC3/TE really heavily they're not worth your time. Maybe making some biomass with a fermenter would work better for you? You can make almost a whole bucket out of 1 sapling, and it gives 5 MJ/T in a Biogas engine.

That could work. I've got infinite saplings, virtually. I'll look into it, thanks for the suggestion!

hmmm... I think the big issue here will be that I also need fertilizer or compost in addition to saplings to make biomass, it doesn't just make it from saplings alone. I'll also need to power the fermenter.

A biogas engine + fermenter is also kinda expensive. I think I counted I would need 35 Bronze ingots in all to build 1 of each (11 for the engine, 24 for the fermenter).

Lets see... Currently I'm using 2x Sterling engines to power a squeezer, carpender, and centrifuge. The setup provides me 2MJ/t, but I have to provide fuel to each engine separately.

If I switch to a biogas engine, I'll have 1 engine producing 5MJ/t powering 4 machines (fermenter, squeezer, carpender, and centrifuge). Possibly I will need a separate engine dedicated to power the fermenter to make sure I'm making biomass as fast or faster than I'm using it. I'll also need to either spend some time mining for Apatite and/or expand my wheat farms in order to make enough fertilizer or compost. Sounds like a lot of work? Maybe its worth it vs. blowing through wood logs to make charcoal and losing a minimum 2 charcoal everytime I want to run 1 of my machines.
