SUGGESTION: If we ever have to roll back again, why don't we just get a server with the most popular mods, (IC2, BC, Thermal Exp., Mystcraft, TC, etc) and run it there. We'd have A LOT less issues.
Modpack installation outside of precreated packs is harder on both the sysops (Corin) and the users when installing. basically it's more shit to set up for everybody when we could just grab FTB stuff and press start
Also if we did that, everybody and their uncle (or at least me and Maru) would be having LENGTHY discussions again about what to include/what not to include, etc.

Mods don't create lag just by existing. They may make the server take longer to start up and shut down, but they should only significantly effect lag if they're being used intensively.
(Mostly) on hiatus until further notice. Planet MafiaScum 2 will be modded by Inspi and JDGA - go check it out!

server wise yes, but getting people able to connect due to lolderpyness wise, no. if you remember i tried running a server that i set the mods up myself and people on macs could never connect.
it wasn't just macs, people with desktops i was having to provide hours worth of help to. I can't do that anymore. it would literally be either you figure it out as per my instructions, or you're SOL, as i don't have the time.
Actually yesterday when I was on the server the gameplay was just fine for me. A couple crashes still but thats less annoying than being able to log on and not being able to do anything at all.
I'm having more issues deciding what I actually want to do any moment I am on the server, and then actually formulating a plan to actually go do it. XD
Would I be mad to think that the server might provide any sort of profiling data? Stuff like what code is executing the most and using the most CPU cycles and what code is hogging the most resources. I don't know anything about the server and the logging that's available, but it might be that there's some sort of debugging level logging available that might give some clues.* Probably not, but if there was such a thing it might help a lot in working out what is actually causing the problems rather than just guessing.** Anybody able to shed any light on this?
* If there are such logs I could volunteer to have a look to try to decipher them -- I've done a lot of similar stuff in the past.

Corin, the sysops guy you sometimes see in this thread and on IRC, understands pretty perfectly what the server's doing, AFAIK
I mean, he and Maru differ with their opinions on what's to be done with it, but I'm sure if there was ACTUAL debugging to be done he could/would've done it

you my friend, need to get acquainted with Corin. He can answer any and all questions you have of this nature.

other than he hates modded shit and refuses to touch it or offer support for it. but he does understand it all yes. Dappy talk to him to get whatever you need to get to do what you think you can do
IN THE MEANTIME, I re-downloaded the recommended 5.2 push and reuploaded all of its files JUST INCASE that actually does anything (I doubt it)
There's a very small amount of creosote you can take from my coke oven (I smelted 3 coal ). Its in the cobble wall enclosure near my house. I'm planning on taking down the coke oven tonight. I'm a bit overwhelmed by the scope of railcraft right now so I think I'm going to start with forestry instead. Doesn't seem to require as much of an initial resource investment to get started.

I have a coke oven full of creosote you can steal and feel free to use my blast furnace as well if you need to. I'll even throw in some coal coke... Just help yourself from my chests. Actually there's o er a stack of creosote cans in one of my chests too so take that as well if you want.
