Where do I go to actually check that? I can't find anything in multicraft
woot I got in
my number was 9, which maybe was just a lucky ass guess, but it was also the number at the end of the URL when I clicked on my servers: "server/view&id=9"
I first tried 10 because it was the number at the end when I clicked on profile: "user/view&id=10"
now I just need to figure out which files to backup.
its currently ~500mb, and it took filezilla only 8 minutes to transfer on my connection.
I'll do this whenever I play and keep a few backups. I'm sure in a few months the directory will get a lot bigger and then I'll think about changing how I do it.
Another thing I've come across is sites mentioning to disable saving during file transfer or I could end up with a corrupted backup. The recommended procedure is /save all, /save off, do backup, /save on - I don't think its a very good idea for me or anyone other than ops to be able to turn saving on and off for obvious reasons, just pointing out that this may limit the actual benefit to any of this manual saving. If there was a save between 9:07 and 9:15 PM est while I was copying the files, it might not be possible to use them to restore anything anyways. idk, I'm not entirely sure how it all works. I would guess it'd be ideal to copy files when no one is on the server (shouldn't be any saves then right?) which I can see from the CP, but then that limits when I can actually do the backups anyways. Just food for thought.
Rhinox - notify me via PM on here if you're ever looking to do a backup. I can shut down the server while you back-up or do the save fiddling you suggest. Thanks for getting invested!

The worst thing u can think of happening is that the chunks in use during your backup get corrupted. So if you ask everyone to log out first it should be fine

Yeah, just backing up the worlds without dealing with the saving system properly will more likely than not hand you a bunch of incomplete/corrupted files.

this is absolutly true and the reason why I sucked at making backups

Ok guys, enderchest combo WHITE-WHITE-WHITE is now a public item dump. Leave anything, take anything. There's a book in there to explain it to anyone who finds it by accident - please put it back once you've read it!

So basically I should only do a backup if A) the server is empty, or B) an op is around to do the /save all /save off *wait while I backup* /save on.
Since there were definitely people online when I copied files yesterday should I automatically assume they are corrupted and just delete them or is there a way to check, maybe like transferring the files to a single player world?

the number is based on the server number. The FTB server is server number nine, therefor when accessing FTB files, you will login with:
IP and port in the FTB server FTP settings
username.9
password.
the MS (was) 2 last i checked, so it would be username.2 and the ip it gives (I think it is locating at a different IP access as well)
I'd love to be in on the dragonicide, but I don't really feel as though I've made much headway on the being-prepared-for-a-big-fight front yet. I've been building machines and stuff, and haven't even bothered enchanting anything yet (although I am level 40-something).

359 file transfers and 5 minutes later, I backed up the whole world folder for the FTB server. Not bad at all. I'm going to see how long it takes to dump ALL the files now...
