I use it mostly to get the current player list on the server, tbh. I like to see who's on to see if it's worth getting on. I don't like playing by myself. As long as it has a player list, the map can look like anything for all I care. If there's an easier way to see the player list that I don't know about, then just direct me there.

An IRC would be better, if possible.
Anymahoo.
Can everyone get a free nether star?
Like, for the portal gun?
I'm not worried about the wand of the Thaumaturge yet. I can deal with that later. I want a portal gun.
So I just installed the Twilight Forest mod for SSP.
“Leftover lady, let alone the strongest to be subdued.
If I only had the magic key that would unlock the realms to the plateau of the highest me.
Even though I’ve been badly bruised, living in a house to become a popular muse.”
Slightly late to the party, but I've thought about map regeneration. For me, pros:
1) Whatever biomey changes happen before we regenerate are in our map.
2) We would build a new awesome community town/city/something else. Spawntown for me feels like it wasn't built by the playerbase we have now, and also like it's rather deserted.
3) The bit of the game where you don't have everything set up for you is really fun. I haven't tried to achieve this by going off as a hermit - I don't think I have the willpower not to teleport back - but anyway it would definitely be more fun if everyone else was doing it.
Con:
1) We have built lots of shiny things. On a personal level, my jungle temple is the best thing I have ever built or will ever build in survival (and probably also in creative).
In my perfect world, at some point (probably after some sensible update) we'd mostly reset the map. Anything anyone feels is special enough to them that they'd not be happy playing on the server without it we would keep, within reason. Then we regenerate everything else, and have a mostly-empty map with the occasional monument from ancient times. If necessary, we move spawn so it's not too near anything from the old world. From the point of view of the community, the map would feel fresh, but without needing to destroy buildings people don't want destroyed.
Whether that would work would depend entirely on how much people feel they would need kept to be happy in the new world. For me personally, out of my 8 or so major building projects that would only be the jungle temple, and I wouldn't mind if it was far away from the new centre of activity and everything personal in it vanished.
Okay guys, my sister got into Minecraft recently and now she's wanting to put the Twilight forest mod on the server she uses to play with her friend and get me to join it too. Also she wants Tekkit on there (which is dumb considering she's a huge Minecraft noob). However she's running into a lot of troubles in doing so. Is anyone able to write a tutorial or something to help her do it? At most could someone set up a server.jar file with this all completely done (or whatever else you need) and PM it to me?

I'll ask my tech guru friend who sets all our shit up.
worst case scenario I SHOULD be able to use ForgeIRC to create a new IRC Channel, as long as it doesnt blow up our other mods

Lol adding mods to tekkit and expecting it to work.
also tekkit runs on MCPC not minecraftserver.jar nor craftbukkit.jar
so you have to find a MCPC port of any mod you wish to use with it.
@maru - in the future, please give us like 5 mins notice before you close server for an update. We were in the middle of using turtles among other things, and all those automated programs will be stopped automatically because the server shut off .5 sec after you announced it.
Fishy brings me to an interesting idea? Instead of regenerating all unused chunks, what if we regenerated everything but chunks that people didn't want to be regenerated? Is that too much hassle?
There will be no kisses tonight
There will be no holding hands tonight
'Cause what is now wasn't there before and should not be
Being completely honest, if I were asked what chunks I wanted brought with me on a partial regen, I would list basically everything I've ever touched. I think it would be just as easy and much less complicated to only regen unused chunks if a partial regen is the route that is decided upon.

Lol, stop using netherroads and TP and go take a walk outside. The path from spawn to Testificate village is BEAUTIFUL, with a few great builds on the way.

Too many Portal guns will crash the server.
Whats the limit on it?
Doesn't matter guys, don't push this. I'm almost sorry I ran that little event and I may have to take the Gun back very soon or run an event for everybody which will be competitive rather than cooperative. In fact...I'm already doing that. I am the GlaDOS of the FTB Server. Stop this Portal Gun griping before I cover your house floor with Aerial Faith Plates. I can and will do it.
I'm saying don't push the "how many guns till we crash the server" thing. Also remember that anyone with the same gun won't be able to use theirs if you've already got Portals out in the world (since a portal from the same type of gun, even if used by a different player, will overwrite any other portal made with the same gun elsewhere).
@Maru: you reset the Aura Nodes when you updated/did whatever you did to the server. I'm not pleased that I lost my 850 Aura Node...and I'm sure others will have qualms.
We need to find a fix so that that doesn't happen again, because it's quite destructive.
