I have an idea of how I would make mafia numbers work. I can't reveal too much without giving out all of the setup info. You can work with me via PM if you'd like, though.

Wincons for the bigger Mafia would likely be to control at least 50% of the town and have all Usurpers dead. They'd essentially be a combined Town to the Usurpers and Mafia to the actual Town.

I assume the usurper wincon would be to make up at least 50% of the players? One problem I see is that there may be situations where an about-to-be-lynched usurper would want to give out the names of (non-usurper) mafia members. Then again as long as that's kept in mind during design it should be manageable.

And then the mafia would give out the name of the rest, thus assuring their loss.

That'd be true if they gave out
all
the mafia member names, but not if they left one out (then the mafia risks screwing over their last remaining team-mate). Just something to think about.

Well, then they just don't mention that last Mafia member.

Either way, them doing that would screw both teams over.

Big mafia team not knowing who their team mates are is one simple way to deal with that. They can weigh the pros and cons to requiring members to claim in their qt.

But that 1) ruins the concept of having a game inside of a game, and 2) kinda stops it from being Mafia, as no connection tells can be made. Besides, I think it could work without that happening.

Not to nag, but I don't want to spill all of the details in a public place. :P

So I'm thinking about running a game, and trying to come up with ideas. I'm thinking of Meta Mafia, where I assign each player a role based on reading through their meta history. How do you think this would work?

...it would definitely depend on a couple things, especially if that feature of the game would be Open. Mostly, it'd probably depend on what you were reading through their meta for and subsequently basing roles off of. Also, consider the workload as a Mod of running that even as a Micro.

First of all, it has potential to be hilarious.

Second, how would you avoid predictability of the roles?

Also, I'd play that game just to see how unpredictable you can be. Consider that a pre-/in.

I'm interested, and I'm sure others would be as well. As long as you believe you can pull it off.

There's actually been a few meta mafia type games in the past. I don't think I've seen one where it was based on the player's meta though. Here's a link to one if you're curious how it worked out.

This was based on the players meta. Our one above was based on whatever we decided was interesting. (They're fun to design, I know dramonic ran a scummers mafia too. Linky for you.

er: misread. Each role is based on the own players individual history and not a player. yeah to my knowledge that has been done. And it's fine for established people, some people are just...tedious to think of roles for (and vt is kind of lame in a game like that) so you have to be creative.
are you thinking of me when you're with somebody else?

In post 3725, Klick wrote:I just had the idea for Mafia Mafia Mafia (not bound to that name). Basic idea is that there is a Town, a big Mafia, and then a smaller Usurper group within the Mafia. Sort of an inception mafia of sorts.

Been done before? If not, would anyone be interested in it?

If anyone is interested in it, I will and would work on a Crash Bandicoot game in the near future, probably in the Large Theme queue.

If this happens, please give me a pre-in or send me a PM as it is approaching sign-ups. This would definitely be something I'd want in on.
