this is me just getting info in a concrete form rather than the willy nilly just mention it and forget about it comments we've made in the past.

no matter what happens with the poll it doesn't guarantee anything in the end, i'm just wanting more info on peoples' opinions.

Maybe we should just nominate the top 5 structures in this server, and transfer them over if the reset is agreed on.

I nominate Maestro's Crystal Cathedral, Fishy's Jungle Temple, Clamtown, and Ourathanos.

But i know that a lot of people that play on this server infrequently would just up and quit if the reset happens.

If you think that regenerating the server will guarantee that any of the newer people will make big structures, you are

wrong. There is no guarantee that a regeneration will get more wealthy people or just make a better server in general. I mean if you want to regenerate unused chunks, just make sure that they're totally unused.

Not totally unused, only if they have certian manufactured blocks. So if you made a sand castle somewhere on the beach, it is gone.

Why are people talking about the Christmas tree as if it's super-special and needs to be saved? Sure, it's nice, but it's not exactly difficult to re-create.

Although I don't want resets to be a common thing with brand new updates because people are going to feel they shouldn't create stuff it is just to be destroyed.

it isn't something i want to be a common thing either, this map will have been around for nearly 15 or 16 months (i forget how long it was around before i joined nearly 13 months ago) and i don't think update any more frequent than that are a good idea.


But I do think that infrequent map reset are good for the life of servers, it brings activity up in general because activity dies down the further you get in the game. its why i got really inactive in february-march.

Full Map regeneration is easy. I delete the world folders (either jsut the overworld, or any combination of all three worlds TBD later). Nothing trasnfers over. We all start over from new.
This options is POSSIBLY accompanied with a back-to-vanilla ish feel to our plugin usage. That is also up in the air and TBD at a later date.

Unused Map Regeneration:
We use a special code that checks every chunk on the map for one of the following blocks by default (list is editable): 5,19,20,22,23,25,26,27,28,29,33,34,35,36,41,42,43,44,45,46,47,53,55,57,59,60,63,64,65,66,67,68,69,70,71,72,75,76,77,80,84,85,87,88,89,91,92,93,94,96
Any chunk found with any of these blocks in it, as well as any chunk within a 10-chunk square of it will be preserved. Everything else will be deleted, and able to be re-genned with new regencode.

2) don't think that a reset will help "restore" the balance.

Yes, the server was "better" in its infancy- the world was new and the people who were playing then got all the toys. Regenerating the server is not making the minecraft world any more 'sustainable' for newer players to join or older players to return- it will simply allow for new people to become the "upper class" of the server.


I apologize if this sounds very much like a "get off my lawn" argument (which it isn't meant to be) and I like many of the newer players I've met such as Fizz and Clammy. I just don't think this is for the best for all of us.

I'll even offer :solutions:!
1) If you want to go back to a vanilla setting then maybe what you should do is have Maru 'drop' everyone who wants to move to a far away place and let them take nothing with them. Boom, instant vanilla. It isn't fair to the older players or for infrequent players to not have a home to come back to. I feel that if you want a vanilla experience that dropping everything and walking into the woods is the best way to do it without ruining everyone else's fun. Example: Vineland.
2) I also liked that day where we did the Enderdragon Run, where we all (upwards of ten players) started off Vanilla and built all the way to the Enderdragon, complete with farmers, hunters, and miners.

3) Give me the ability to fly.

No offense but I think this poll should've been public. If you're not going to put seniority at an account, then there's something wrong. I'm not saying that seniority should be prevalence but I do believe it should have a factor.

This was just a statement I made for the sake of making statements.
Here's what I meant.

It will give EVERYONE the chance to start off from building block one. IF they want to, they can be very wealthy. That much is really up to them. However, I don't think that's the only point in playing this game. Honestly, I get on for the community. You people interest me.

I do enjoy the enderdragon runs, though.
Even though I've never done one.
I'd like to do that more often, for sure.
Regardless, I like these solutions.

Hiraki, what would you consider to be a good measure of "seniority"? Time on the server? Op/admin status? Wealth? Contributions to the community? Time spent playing? There are arguments for all of those.

Something or another that intertwines time on the server and how long they've been on the server. The second has a larger factor. Basically, what I'm trying to get at, is that if this is a "newcomers" argument, it's a bad argument. (Again, no offense but it just is.)

I agree with this, which is why I don't truly believe that my vote should count for anything. I mean, I've been on the server for a little over a month now.

Been here since the first iteration of the server I believe, but this is the first time I have really had anything worth saving. Unused chunk regen is fine, but I am against a full map restore. That's probably me being selfish.
