Yeah, eggs for more standard mobs is a pretty cool idea. Just a note to Claus/Xalxe though; I wouldn't go giving out skeleton eggs. They have a 75% chance of being a wither skeleton if used in the nether.

They would despawn like regular zombies (Villagers wouldn't, btw). There is an NBT tag that can be used to prevent despawning, but you'd have to get somebody to edit the mobs manually and import them with MCEdit, which is a bit above my pay grade.
(the alternative way to get persistent mobs is through a spawner with some SpawnData tags, but a) there's no way in hell we're doing that on a supposedly vanilla server and b) it would still need either MCEdit, or a seriously fancy Bukkit plugin)

izak: ok. I wouldn't need persistent mobs if I had a zombie spawner though, because it would just spit out some zombies whenever someone was nearby, and it wouldn't matter if they despawned later on.
Darkrooms are my backup plan for now. I'm a little worried about creeper explosions though, and it would take away any realistic option of players interacting with the mobs (due to the aforementioned creeper explosions).
Strictly speaking RE is zombies. There are other things besides human zombies but I don't think they're covered by any other minecraft mob. But it doesn't really matter, the Minecraft Umbrella Corp could just be a RE inspired facility that studies the mobs of minecraft, it doesn't need to be a strict recreation of RE.
I'm dicking around with beacons in 1.4 on a CSP world and I can't for the life of me get them to activate.
I'm toying around with them for the idea of creating an elaborate "king of the hill" arena where people need to stay in range of the beacons to score points, but I'm trying to figure out the logistics of that, if anyone wants to dick around with the idea or help me out, let me know.
