Hoopla has won it for fake-claiming PGO as town, and rightfully so.

The award has been around for a very long time, and I don't think we've ever seen a surge of bad fake-claims because of people trying to go for the glory of winning a scummy.

There is no single player award left that isn't body of work, and I think that's a shame.

Last year we had three nominations for Best Role Claim. Total.* It's also something that's captured by other awards, whether the role claim comes as town or scum. Good role claims still have their place in the awards but more in keeping with the value that they provide to their side. Best Role Claim overvalued one small part of the game. We don't have other awards like this. We don't have, for example, Best Use of a Power Role as an award. But that's arguably just as valuable. The reason we don't break it down into those categories is because that's the sort of thing judges should be considering when they make their paragon, don corleone, best town oscar, best scum oscar award decisions.

I'm sadder to see Funniest claim go as it's something that's fun to go through and check out. But we already have funniest/most enjoyable player, and when it comes down to it, funny role claiming is part of that as well.

*Best IC also only had three nominations, but it serves a valuable and distinct purpose

It's a site tradition that people enjoyed. Someone's play can overall not be strong enough in a game for Don Corleone etc., but salvaged by an amazing claim, and I think that award recognizes that.

Hmm, that sounds a lot like a certain other award dropped last year...

(Which I was sad to see go as well, mind you. The award had its place in the scummies in my opinion, and while I understood the argument for its removal, I never really got it.)

I don't understand why the awards are always in constant flux. It is quite frustrating to see certain awards removed, added, combined for seemingly no reason.

Have reasons been given regarding the changes (am I being dumb)?

Zoraster just explained the reason Best Role Claim was dropped. Funniest Role Claim is a 'meh' award, that seems best covered by Funniest Player. Losing Cause was dropped ages ago because it's a bad award. Rising Star was added because the Join Date issue made 'Best Newbie' deeply flawed, and it sort of covers Most Improved (plus a general lack of interest in Most Improved) meant they could be combined.

I think the changes are really good actually. I kinda miss Best Role Claim, but I see the logic behind ditching it. Rising Star is a great idea. And know I actually know how Outstanding MishMash Game fits in, I think that's a good move too.

Besides, you're supposed to mod for Scummies. And not the way Tarhalindur tried in Mind Screw V.
