I'm asking this in the name of honest curiosity, but do you know how prevalent this practice is?
(If the answer is "very", well... etc.)
It depends on the job. Government jobs that require a security clearance? They may very well do so. Your average employer? Very unlikely to actually ask you to list internet accounts. That's not to say they won't google the crap out of your name though.
This. Its possible I may go into such a job in the future. I'm not sure the exact likeliness, but its better than 0.
The practice is becoming more prevalent though, and is not limited to just government employers. That being said, my brother (police) had to, and I'm sure I will eventually have to as well.
For a security clearance I can understand it. For a police department it just reminds me of this. For everyone else I have to wonder how much they want to know about your personal life (it's easy enough to find co-workers backbiting with simple facebook searches for their name).
Also, what Xalxe said.
*shrug* When you're looking for a job, you generally don't have the luxury of righteous indignation.

I have a security clearance. They are concerned with personal things such as finance, foreign contacts, etc. And the investigating body is not your employer. You do not have anything to worry about for having the name "Cockblocker". Unless you are going into the priesthood this is an invalid concern. I promise.
Honestly i can't see any reason why a forum account with the title 'cockblocker' would raise any eyebrows. Hell in some government jobs having a reputation as a cockblocker would probably be a plus.
Facebook accounts with long lists of the shittons of drugs you do and how racist you are, yeah those are going to be a problem. Cockblocker? Not even going to blip the radar.
matter for a security clearance, but in the current job market/understanding of the Web most employers have, I can understand Kinetic's concerns.
I can't. Everyone here is already assiciated with a site that deals with lynching and lies and deceit at its core, not to mention the other things that go on in the nether reaches of the site. He'd have way more difficult things to explain before they even get to the cock
if you know what I'm talkin' about :p
This is a copout excuse that I'm not buying. He should just admit he's a homophob so everyone can move on

Most likely depends on the clearance level.
I mean some of these places are enormous fishbowls.
