As the sun began to set, discussion grew ever more lively, and each one pointed her finger at another only to be pointed back at in return. Tempers flared hot, and threats began to fly with the fury of the insults thrown about. One of the group remained quiet over in the corner, thinking it safe there. But it was her reluctance to enter this brawl of aspiring femme fatales that marked her as the next target of their haughty wrath, and her eagerness to escape notice soon became a contested debate as well. She tried to defend herself, vehemently and with honor, but then one of her accusers got a little too excited.

was the sound the sword made as it was thrust into her chest. In disbelief at what she had done in the heat of the moment, the eager sword-wielder pulled the weapon back out hastily. Thick gouts of dark red blood issued forth from the hapless victim's mortal wound; and she fell to the floor, clutching her chest in the purest of agony, attempting to scream for all she was worth. But alas, no breath would come to her lips... no scream would come forth... and no spell of enchantment could seal her away safely in solitude. Not this time.

As the ever-so-recently-squabbling group of women looked on, the girl's eyes opened and closed with fear at her now-apparent fate. Someone retched in the background as the girl vomited blood all over herself; surely, her lungs had been pierced through and through. And it was but a quick moment of silent terror and anguish later that the light left her eyes.

And then she lay forever still, gazing innocently and lifelessly at the one who had mistakenly pierced her breast.

As it turns out, all manner of unkind enchantments exist. And this one was very unkind indeed. With a malevolent glare, a certain dark figure brewed a particularly venomous poison, and stirred it cautiously as it bubbled, simmering over the roaring flames within that accursed dungeon lair. For days the concoction had been in need of continuous care; this day alone had required an incredible amount of devotion to the task. But soon it would be complete.

When the poison was quite ready, it took little effort to apply it to the tips of the gleaming arrows, which had been sharpened and barbed precisely for this purpose. This task was done quickly and with glee; for finally, the sweet, kind, wholesome girl who had invaded their lands uninvited would be sentenced to an untimely (but probably rather entertaining, depending on your point of view) demise at the hands of those who hated her the most, albeit indirectly.

A Dark Huntsman was called from the belly of the castle in which this evil lair resided, and he collected the arrows with a grim smile and a baleful look in his eye. Grunting his comprehension of his orders, he quickly set off on horseback through the twisted and brambly forest. Days upon days he rode through the thick underbrush, and twigs and branches whipped at his face and clothes without cease. But still he pressed on, stopping only to sleep and eat, and even then only once a day.

When finally he reached the clearing, he pulled his longcloak from his saddlebags, and donned it quickly, so as to maintain a healthy sense of anonymity in this strange and foreign land. When he was ready, he rode into the meadow, keeping well off the roads, and winding his way deeper and deeper into unfamiliar territory. By all rights he should have been lost, but he was a Master of his trade, and nary a one was more cunning than he.

For days he stalked his prey, learning all he could of her whereabouts, and when the perfect time to strike would rear its head. And finally, after nearly a week of grueling work, his moment came.

There she was, walking down the golden path toward him, ambling along at a breezy gait with a ragtag group of friends; a lion, a tin man, and a scarecrow. She held a small dog in her arms, and cuddled it lovingly. The Huntsman spat in disgust at this wretched girl's haughtiness, and slowly but efficiently drew his bow from where it rest next to his saddle. Pulled one of the three poisoned arrows from the quiver on his back, he expertly nocked it on the bowstring, and steadily drew it back until it was even with his scarred right ear. Lining the tip of the arrowhead up with the girls heart, he loosed the venomous dart at his unsuspecting quarry.

His aim was true.

-Thud!-

The arrow struck her dead center in the chest, and she pitched backward into her lion friend. The impact knocked them both onto the ground, and a great roar of fear and anger signaled her feline friend's consternation at the sight of the thick wooden shaft embedded deeply into her breast. The dog began to bark shrilly, continuously and without quarter. The tin man and scarecrow were frozen with shock, and could not speak. Neither could the girl, for she was now foaming at the mouth. Her eyes grew wider with fear than they already had with pain. She struggled for a moment; for breath; for life.


But moments later, as she lay splayed across the lion on the ground, arms and legs askew at unnatural angles, she was dead, burned acidically and destroyed completely, from the inside out. By this time, the Huntsman was already well on his way back to the castle to report complete success.
