What makes those any different from titles originating in ScumChat?

Probably very little from the perspective of someone who doesn't care about scum-chat.

Besides, it's restating my original argument, don't go crazy): What I was saying is that I was agreeing with Oman that titles originated on MafiaScum are fine regardless of context or whether or not it has to do with a specific game but stuff originating on Starcraft, LoL, WoW, etc. for instance is iffy because 99% of the playerbase that sees that title won't get it.

@Oman: I think you need to do a public / loud refresher course on what exactly you think this thread is and how it should work, the endless bitching about what is a good title / venting of every slight has surpassed people spitballin' about titles and has now (imo) pretty much just de-railed any good that could come out of this thread. What was a fun diversion and community building thread is now srs business (and that just sucks).

I think he's explained it more than enough times. No offense to JD, but I think Oman has been doing a good enough job and has explained a very clear and fair process when it comes to selecting titles. He's not some sort of title nazi. He just doesn't want to pass out non-mafia titles, because when you give UT Fat and Sassy, soon enough you'll be giving someone like ReaperCharlie a unicorn-themed title.

There are loads upon loads of non-mafia titles present on the site, and loads upon loads of non-MS titles on the site. Regarding Buttons' post, my very point is that

he should not be making the decision as to what is and isn't a good title, he should be acting as an arbiter amongst the members of the community

People in the past have gotten titles for non-mafia related features, but that is such a low minority that it's not even worth bringing that up as a type of argument because such a low number of people have gotten titles for those kinds of features. It's not a good sample size and it's not worth talking about.

If you want to extend it to non-mafia related, it isn't a low minority, it's probably closer to half the titles. That's a fucking great sample size.

-Mafia titles are titles that originated from the site and clearly describe who a person is on site. Titles that deviate from that norm (titles that originate from a different video game or website, for example) are rare and have been given in the past, but only on extreme occasion.

JD, I understand your point on Oman being an arbiter, but that's something you should bring up to mith. Oman's doing a job. He's not here to piss people off, and I think you know that.

LoL isn't part of the MS community. UT gets Fat and Sassy and only like....10 people will know about it. So...yeah. I'm pretty sure we could argue that that's not remotely close to being part of the website culture.

Edit: I'm respectfully disagreeing because in order to understand a title such as Fat and Sassy, you'd need both an understanding of MS references and LoL references. 99.9% of the other titles (not counting scumchat), you only need an understanding of MS references. Oman's arguing that if it originated on the site, it's okay. If it's an in-joke between a group of people on another video game, website or media source, it's not. It's only a subtle difference in ruling, but there are and will be way better titles for UT.

This thread is taking a break for three reasons: The first is that I need to clean it up, and that's easier when people aren't adding more, the second is that I intend to punch an annual report off to mith, and I don't want this to be the gear that I'm reporting, and finally it's because I hate hate hate the culture here at the moment. I know the issues, I'm not blaming anyone, but I feel physically averse to reading this thread with the way people treat each other and behave. I appreciate that there is a large amount of immaturity on the site at the moment, but I do not enjoy the way it's bleeding into here.

I don't want to see the TF thread locked yet again, and I definitely don't want to see it gone altogether. If you got a problem with the way Oman is running the show, take it up with him privately. If you got a problem with another member of the site, take it up with them privately. If you have a problem with some of the titles that are being suggested, lay out your problems with the title in a clear, concise argument. If you have a problem with titles that have come before, suck it up and move on.[/rant]

Buttonman didn't define what he thought was a mafia or mafiascum related title. From what I'm guessing, you guys think that I mean something that has to do with a specific game. It can be related to personas, non-game onsite interactions or mish mash games. I keep saying this, but someone should NOT need an additional knowledge base of something else like LoL or a different website to understand a Mafiascum title and I'm pretty sure Oman believes the same thing.

Liking a title and it being appropriate for the site are two completely different things. I'm defending Omans capability in deciding this stuff. PM mith if you don't believe he is.
