Newbie 178 - Game Over
On board the U.S.S. MafiaScum, the flagship of the U.S.' space fleet, mutiny is afoot. Aliens have inhabited the brains of 2 of the crewmen and have forced them to kill their Captain and First Officer. Now, the crew's only hope is that they can kill off the crewmen with the infected brains before they can take over the ship and use it to their own evil ends.
The roles in this game are as follows:
You are the Security Officer (Cop) - Every night, you and your security team may investigate one crewman's room in order to determine their guilt or innocence. You win with the uninfected crew.
You are the Chief Medical Officer (Doc) - Every night, you may take one crewman to sickbay in order to treat any wounds that they may have, effectively saving them from the aliens' attacks. You win with the uninfected crew.
You are a random Ensign (Townie) - You have no special night abilities, and when you die, everybody will say how great a guy you were, even though this is the only episode that you're featured in. You win with the uninfected crew.
You are an infected crewman (Mafia) - You and *player* have been infected by the aliens' probes and are under their control. Every night phase, the two of you may discuss who you want to kill, and PM me the name of that crewman. You win when all non-infected crewmen are dead.
The game will have one of four random setups:
1. 1 doc, 1 cop, 2 mafia, 3 random crewmen
2. 1 cop, 2 mafia, 4 random crewmen
3. 1 doc, 2 mafia, 4 random crewmen
4. 2 mafia, 5 random crewmen

The rules, as shamelessly "Borrowed" from Dragon Phoenix:
THE RULES
The Rules:
* Votes must be in bold. If you do not bold your vote, it will not be counted.
* Please be attentive and unvote, if necessary, before casting a new vote. This is not required, but I’d appreciate it.
* Executions will require a simple majority of votes. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, his pleas are useless and any attempts to unvote will be unheeded. You may vote: no lynch – majority votes of this kind are necessary to end the day without a death.
* The game is not to be discussed outside of the thread unless your role specifically states that you may do so.
* Once your death scene has been posted, you’re dead. Stop typing.
* Don’t edit/delete previously submitted posts
* Don’t quote any PMs from me.
* If you have a night choice to make, it is due by the posted deadline. I will not wait for you – if you do not submit a choice to me, tough! No choice will be made.
* If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in the thread. Treat this game as a commitment. Be considerate – don’t leave us hanging.
* Remember, it’s a game. It’s supposed to played. It’s supposed to be fun. Do your part."I hear that random.org punches babies." - Thesp-

Welcome all.vote Prof Binkyfor being the last to confirm.
If you have any general questions, feel free to either PM AndrewS, or to ask one of Fritzler, Dragon Phoenix, or me for further explanations-part of the point of these games is to introduce you to commonly use terminology in other games.I replaced into Chess Mafia for 6 months, and all I got was a win and this lousy sig.-

Jeez, sign on for the first time to see if my first ever game has started, and find myself almost dead!
Now, although a newbie, it seems to me that a third vote this early in the game would be more likely to come from the mafia than anyone else, so Ivote RandomActs
Extra homework for anyone who votes Prof Binky!-

Agreed about wanting to hear an explanation from RandomActs.
I'll also FOS Fritzler (FOS=Finger of Suspicion, you use it when you suspect somebody but don't want to vote them yet), since I find his decision to vote Eucalyptus in that situation weird, even for him.I replaced into Chess Mafia for 6 months, and all I got was a win and this lousy sig.-

Ooooh apparently I violated an unstated rule of protocol. As a noob, I wouldn't know. My apologies.Thok wrote:unvote Prof Binky, vote Random Acts-putting a third vote on somebody before he gets a chance to post is way too aggressive for my tastes.
unvote Prof Blinky
Can any of the vets relate some other faux pas we should avoid?"When all other possibilities have been eliminated, what ever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."- Sherlock Holmes-

It's not that you've broken a rule of protocol; rather I find it surprising that a newbie is that quick to but a third vote on somebody without hearing them speak. Many newbies are afraid to place asecondvote on somebody early on, because they worry that mafia could quicklynch that person (it's not a valid arguement, but many newbies make it). It seems very aggressive of you to put a third vote on somebody for no real reason when that potentially gives scum the ability to lynch somebody quickly.
(Vaughn's claimed interest in putting a 3rd vote on Eucalyptus strikes me as equally interesting).
Fritzler-the reason I found your play weird is that I'd expect you to be a bit more cautious in a smaller game, especially when any single vote can easily become a bandwagon. Also, I'd think you'd have enough experience to realize that the Eucalyptus bandwagon feels like a diversionary tactic, since one of the Prof Binky voters was likely to be bandwagoned once he got a third vote on him.I replaced into Chess Mafia for 6 months, and all I got was a win and this lousy sig.-

2. So I should have sensed (or expected?) a bandwagon on RandomActs and put myself there?Surfs up dude.-

The thing is, I didn't really think of this as a third vote, though it obviously was. As i waiting . . and waiting . . and waiting . . for the game to begin, i thought, "OK, the prof looks like a good candidate for lynching, if for no other reason than to get the game moving." I had intended to vote for him frombeforethe beginning of the game. I would have gladly cast the any of the votes, 1, 2, 3 OR 4. It had more to do with impatience than anything else. When i saw 2 votes already cast, i thought, "Here's a bandwagon, I'll jump on," thinking someone else would quickly add the fourth vote. I had no idea there was such significance given to a 3rd vote."When all other possibilities have been eliminated, what ever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."- Sherlock Holmes
