Sorcerers in the Magic Order Academy Mafia!


"We've found that our precious grounds have been trespassed by savages," the old Archmage, the headmaster, said to the new students. "Although their intentions are clear, their identities are not. They are obviously not a treat for us, but they surely are for you. Thus, consider it your first assignment: find and obliterate all savages. Failure to do so will result in your banishment from the Order, that is, if you are still alive."

"But, how will we do it, headmaster?" one of the student asked.

"As civilized people, of course. You will all be sealed in the library, and you must use your intelligence to find the savages among you. You will cast a vote to whom you find suspect, and when someone has a majority of votes I will come and take him away. I will get the truth out of him, with his life as a cost, and I will inform you of his true identity. In the mean time, you will all return to your rooms and wait for our decision."

"But, headmaster! It is necessary to go that far and to kill the suspects?"

"It is. Magic is a serious thing, and I don't tolerate those who don't take it seriously, be it savages or stupid students who don't care. Well, without any further comments, head to the library and begin your assignment."

General Rules

2- Have fun. Really, this is a game and you should enjoy it.
3- Play to win.
4- I don't like personal attacks, so try to keep your tone and insults low.
5- Do not discuss this game outside the thread, unless your role says otherwise.

is my pretty colour. Do not use it.
7- This is a game with short deadlines, so if you can't dedicate its proper time, please do not in for it.
8- Do not edit or delete your posts.
9- I can include a new rule at any moment I want.

Ingame Rules

-Voting:
You may vote for another player using
vote:player.
You may unvote using
unvote
. Unvoting is
necessary
to move your vote from one player to another. You can also choose to vote for a no-lynch, using
vote:no lynch

-Lynching:
When a player has the majority of votes that player will be lynched. Further changes in votes will not affect this result. For a no-lynch, only half of the possible votes are needed. When a lynch is reached, you may still post until I post the scene and lock the thread.
-Deadlines:
Days will have a strict deadline of two weeks, subject to change only during certain circumstances (replacements, high activity, low activity, among others). At deadline, if no player have a majority, no lynch will occur. Nights will have a deadline of 48 hours.
-Quoting:
You may not quote any communication out of this topic. This includes role pms, questions to me, QT links, among others. Failure to do so will result in a modkill.
-Modkills:
If you break any rule, you will be, at my discretion, modkilled. Modkilled means that you will lose the game regardless of the result of your faction. A modkill may or not end the day, at my discretion, trying to punish the faction of the modkill.
-Activity:
I expect a post from each player each 48 hours. Failure to do so will result in a prod. Failure to respond to the prod will result in replacement or modkill (at my discretion, taking into account the length of the game).
I will prod on demand from the other players. I wish I could keep record of all players activity, but my real life is taking a lot more time than expected. So please bear with me and let me know if a player needs prodding, k? If you're going to be away for more than 48 hours, post in this topic the VLA warning. I do not check the VLA topic.
-Death:
Once you are dead you are dead. I allow a single bah post, containing no information, but please at least try to make it funny.
-Scum claim:
It is completely forbidden to claim scum/scum partners, whether you are scum or not.
-Roles and factions:
There is at least one vanilla townie in the setup, as well as at least one mafia faction. All factions have a winnable condition. If a win condition is achieved, and it doesn't directly interfere with the win condition of another faction, the game will keep on. For example, if the win condition of a player is to get certain player lynched, should that player achieve that condition (and no other win condition is achieved at the same time), the game can keep on. The town faction is composed by wizards. Scum faction is composed by sorcerers. Other factions may exist, and they may have wizards, sorcerers, or other classes.
-Abilities:
This game is heavy on the abilities. I tried to balance it as much as possible. The order of resolution of abilities (take note that not necessarily all abilities described here exist in the game): hide, roleblock*, redirect*, protect, kill, investigate, recruit, affect other, revive, other abilities. Roleblock and redirect may switch place depending on who's the one being blocked (the redirect takes place unless the roleblocker blocks the redirector.) Conflicting abilities of the same type will happen simultaneously.
-Claiming:
Though you can paraphrase your role pm and make a claim, it is not advised to do so. Just a friendly advise from your nice mod.

O.o i would have expected you as a mod to expect the players to eventually bring up what you've talked with them about outside the thread. if you dont want people using it to try to confirm something, then don't tell them in the first place.

He asked me something about his role. Not about everyone else roles. And, they can talk about what I talk with them, but I won't allow them to use them as if it was mod-confirmed truth. That's rule-breaking 101.

"It's him! I can feel it!" one of the students said while raising his hand towards RBT. More fingers pointed out at the silent RBT, which insisted in few words that she was innocent. When the sun was about to set, the old headmaster appeared, and grabbed RBT by her shoulders.

"So, is she a savage?" he asked, and the students nodded in agreement.

"No, I'm not! You have to believe me!" RBT answered. Even though she was nervous, her eyes showed sincerity.

"Return to your rooms. You will have word from us soon," the headmaster commanded and the students obeyed. As they waited patiently, a magic note appeared in everyone's doors. It read as follows:

"The student RBT was judged by a committee of five professors. A powerful spell was cast on her to reveal her mind, and no savage past was found. It seems she was just a simple student, caught in the lies of the sorcerers. We feel sorry to announce that the campus has lost one of its precious students."

A cold morning brings new hopes...


The night was a cold one. The students, locked in their rooms, could only hear strong winds outside and see how their window glasses froze. Many used the time to sleep happily under their blankets, other used the time to study. Others used the time to prepare their shady plans.

One way or another, nothing new awaited for them the next day. As they reached the room where they would be locked again for the day, the students noticed that no one was missing.

"Ah, it seems you all made it through the night," the headmaster said. "Well, if you would, proceed. I shall come at the end of the day to hear your decision."

The students nodded as the big heavy door of the room closed before the headmaster.

AdumbroDeus is taken by the headmaster following the will of his peers. After a rough day, in which opinions, arguments and even curses flew all over the room, the sunset had arrived. They waited anxiously for any word coming from the headmaster. Finally, just when the sun was setting and the night was starting, the headmaster opened the doors and said:

"The student AdumbroDeus was judged by a committee of five professors. A powerful spell was cast on her to reveal her mind, and no savage past was found. It seems he was just a mischievous student, who liked to skip classes. Well, it seems you are failing in your test. Is it that you want to die? Go rest now and think of today's actions."

Without saying anything else, they all returned to their dorms.

A bloody morning...


The night ended quickly. It had been quite a moved night, with blast and screams heard here and there. The students who managed to survive the night returned to the room where they would be locked yet again, with their hearts still racing. They found the headmaster there, with some other professors, attending at the corpses of three students.

"It seems you weren't fortunate enough to have a second quiet night," the headmaster said. "Well, let's see if this teaches you a lesson. Take this seriously, or you won't be here for much longer." The headmaster left, with the professors following behind, and the corpses being magically carried just behind them.

As the corpses passed through the students, they managed to catch a glimpse at their faces...

That day was rather quick. After so many deaths during the night, it seemed that the students had finally focused on their job: survive. Chesskid presented evidence that Katsuki, the weird student that rarely exchanged words with anyone, was behind one of the kills. Chesskid convinced some of his peers to vote for Katsuki, and a consensus was reached by the mid of the day. The headmaster appeared behind the doors as usual, this time earlier, and took Katsuki away with him. He returned when the sun was setting, saying:

"Katsuki was judged by a committee of five professors. A powerful spell was cast on her to reveal her mind, but to no effect. Somehow, this person was immune to our magic. So we had to use conventional means to get the truth out of him, and we found that he was nor savage nor wizard, but a member of a secret organization dedicated to exterminate magic. Good job, kids, it seems you have finally gotten your hands on your assignment. Now, rest. You still have to find the savages among you."

Without saying anything else, they all returned to their dorms.

Yet another day comes...


Another night that passes too fast for the students. As they reached the big room, they noticed that someone was missing. The headmaster was waiting them with some bad news.

"SpyreX, one of our dear students, was eaten alive by some kind of monster last night. It's a shame we have lost such brilliant student, but you must keep on. Find the savages, or die in the process."

The students gave a minute of silence to honour SpyreX's death, and then started their daily ritual.

The students, realizing the danger they faced, took their time to carefully make their decision. But then, in a moment's notice, the decision was made. 3 against nothing, the students voted for ThAdmiral to be taken to interrogation. The headmaster appeared behind the doors and moved forward to grab ThAdmiral. But this one, not ready to die yet, reacted quickly and make some hand gestures and pronounced some words. He ended his spell pointing his finger at gandalf, who was looking half expectant half frightened, and... Nothing. Not even the slightest spark appeared from his finger. Everyone but the headmaster and the shocked ThAdmiral laughed.

"I... I don't get it..." ThAdmiral said. "You should be dead by now! Die die die!" He repeated the hand gestures, but nothing. He tried something different, but the result was the same.

"Now, that was an interesting display of dexterity," the headmaster said with his cold voice. "But it is time for you to come with me." Without effort, he carried ThAdmiral out of the room and closed the doors behind them. Fifteen minutes later, he returned with a grim face.

"ThAdmiral was judged by a committee of five professors. A powerful spell was cast on him to reveal his mind, and no savage past was found on him. It seems he was a full-time wizard, a student of our campus. Now, go to rest and think of your actions today, that is, if you manage to survive until tomorrow."

The remaining four students returned to their rooms.

The End


Malthusis walked down the ally to the library, all by himself. His three peers where nowhere to be seen. He reached the big room, only to be ambushed by a hooded fellow. An interchange of spells occurred, where the mastery of the young abjurer helped him remain alive. As he covered himself behind one of his barriers, malthusis managed to see the dead body of chesskid lying in the centre of the library, his eyes white and his mouth drooling, and the dead body of gandalf, his chest burnt. His barrier was about to break, when the headmaster appeared with a poof and ended the fight. The hooded fellow revealed his true identity. Behind the hoods, andrew appeared, carrying grin on his face.

"Our mission is accomplished, " andrew said out loud as he grinned. "It's a shame I couldn't kill the last one, but I don't think I have any chance against the Archmage. I'll retreat for now, " andrew continued. "My master will be very pleased about this."

And without further warning, and before the Archmage could stop him, he disappeared after a poof.

"Ah... It seems you are the only survivor," the headmaster said to malthusis.

"Yes, sir," malthusis said. "I'm glad you came, sir. Otherwise I wouldn't have survived."

"There's nothing to be glad, boy. We lost this one to them." They both remained in silence for a moment. The Archmage checked chesskid's body, and then returned to malthusis' side. "You ought to train hard. Train hard for them, for those you couldn't protect with your spells. They will return, I'm sure of that. And I'm sure the next time they will strike with a lot more force than now. So, be prepared, boy. Your aid may become necessary in a near future."

"Y-yes, sir."

The two of them walked away from the library, carrying the dead body of chesskid with them. Malthusis swore next time he would be there to stop them. Next time, they wouldn't take so many lives. Next time, they wouldn't win.

Abjurer - MalthusisWelcome to the Magic Order Academy. It seems you are an abjurer, a wizard specialized in defensive spells. With the threat of the killers around, you must use your abilities to your best if you want to survive. Each night you may use one of the following abilities:

-Shield (unlimited): Target is protected from a single killing attempt that night.
-Alarm (unlimited-triggered): You are warned if one or more players targeted you that night.
-Arcane Lock (Two-shot): The target can't be targeted nor can perform any actions that night.

The doc of the game. It's a shame malthusis claimed so early. But well, looking at the night actions, it's not like he ever did something that would have changed the game should his abilities have stayed with him. This was, in my opinions, one of the weakest roles town had.

-Fog Cloud (One-shot): Target can't be targeted by other actions that night.
-Stinking Cloud (One-shot): Ends the day with a no-lynch. You can use this ability during the day by sending me a PM.
-Sleet Storm (One-shot): All actions are prevented that night.
-Dimension Door (One-shot): You spy upon the target, learning who targeted it that night, and who it targeted.

You win when all threats have been eliminated.


Hm, the real JoaT of town. I think chesskid played it nicely, although I would have saved the Sleet Storm for a lylo situation. But well, his choice was still pretty good. Stinking Cloud was an awful ability for town, though. Good thing he never used it.

Diviner - AdumbroDeusWelcome to the Magic Order Academy. It seems you are a diviner, a wizard specialized in divination spells. With the threat of the killers around, you must use your abilities to your best if you want to survive. Each night you may use one of the following abilities:

-Detect Thoughts (Two-shot): Obtains one post from a QT from the target player (if any).
-Arcane Eye (Two-shot): Watches target.
-Scrying (Two-shot): Obtains target's alignment.
-Locate Creature (Two-shot): Tracks target's actions.
-Prying Eyes (One-shot): You track one player, and watch another. These investigations can't be prevented (but it can be fooled).

You win when all threats have been eliminated.


The town cop-watcher-tracker. This role had real potential, but it was never used at its fullest. Quite a shame for town, as it was one of its strongest roles. Prying Eyes was kind of broken, but well, it was never used. Funny thing, Adumbro used Detect Thoughts on gandalf on Night 1, so he could have possibly find a scum on the very fist night.

Illusionist - DoombunnyWelcome to the Magic Order Academy. It seems you are an illusionist, a wizard specialized in illusory spells. With the threat of the killers around, you must use your abilities to your best if you want to survive. Each night you may use one of the following abilities:

-Misdirection (unlimited): Change the target of one effect to another player.
-Mirror Image (unlimited): All actions targeting you that night will fail.
-Major Image (One-shot): You create an illusory image of a player. All actions targeting that player will fail. However, tracking/watching on that player will give a result determined by you.
-Invisibility (One-shot): You become invisible until the end of the next day (you can't post but you can vote by sending me a PM).
-Permanent Image (One-shot): You mislead the target into missing the next day phase. He is removed from the game and returns and the beginning of the next day.
-Mirage Arcana (One-shot): All targets of all actions that night are randomized.

You win when all threats have been eliminated.


A misc role with some interesting abilities. It was also never used at its fullest. It would have lead to some interesting speculation. Mirage Arcana could have screwed both town and scum so hard that it would have been quite funny... Ah...

Transmuter - SpyreX - Dark HorseWelcome to the Magic Order Academy. It seems you are a transmuter, a wizard specialized in changing the looks or configuration of things. With the threat of the killers around, you must use your abilities to your best if you want to survive. Each night you may use one of the following abilities:

-Whispering Wind (unlimited): You can send a small message (up to 25 words) to another player. That player won't know who send it.
-Bear's Endurance (One-shot): Target player needs an additional vote to get lynched the next day.
-Eagle's Splendor (One-shot): Target player obtain one extra vote the next day.
-Haste (One-shot): Target can use an additional action that night.
-Baleful Polymorph (One-shot): Turns target into a frog. Can't perform actions, can't vote, but it can still post normally.

You win when all threats have been eliminated.


Another interesting role. In my opinion the best supportive role town had. A stumper, an extra voter, an extra action, an out-thread communicator, well, it had all the good toys. It's a shame the claim was so early, it really fucked up this role.

Universalist - NarsisWelcome to the Magic Order Academy. It seems you are an universalist, a wizard with no specialization whatsoever. With the threat of the killers around, you must use your abilities to your best if you want to survive. Each night you may use one of the following abilities:

-Arcane Mark (unlimited): You leave your own personal mark on a wall! Nice!
-Pretidigitacion (unlimited): Wow! Real MAGIC tricks as a REAL wizard! Awesome!
-Fly (One-shot): Woot! I can fly! I'm Superman!
-Secret Page (One-shot): With this, you can cheat safely on your tests! A+, here we go!
-Enlarge (One-shot): This is the real hot chick-killer, if you know why I mean. *wink wink*
-Contact Other Plane (One-shot): Dude, this is waaaay better than those weeds they were selling on the market.

(In case you have not noticed, yes, you are a vanilla townie. With a nice fluff. )

Enchanter - vezokWelcome to the Magic Order Academy. It seems you are an enchanter, a wizard specialized in messing up with the mind of others. With the threat of the killers around, you must use your abilities to your best if you want to survive. Each night you may use one of the following abilities:

-Sleep (One-shot): Target can't perform actions that night.
-Suggestion (One-shot): Target player will vote for whoever you want the next day (or no vote at all), and his vote can't be moved from there until the next day.

-Mass Suggestion (One-shot): You can't be voted for the next day. You can use this ability during day. If you do, the votecount is reset and you can't be voted for that day.

You win when all threats have been eliminated.


A manipulator of sorts. The ability to talk with other players outside the thread was the biggest thing, imo. Suggestion would have been a lylo breaker, but it was a rare shot. Hideous laughter would have been town-killer if used at a bad moment.

Pyromancer - ThAdmiral - VrenWelcome to the Magic Order Academy. It seems you are a pyromancer, a wizard specialized in blasting things off with your powerful fire spells. With the threat of the killers around, you must use your abilities to your best if you want to survive. Each night you may use one of the following abilities:

-Burning Hands (Unlimited): Kills target with fire.
-Fire Shield (One-shot): The first person to target you after you use this ability (even if it's on another day) dies (its action takes place, though).
-Fire Lighting Bolt (One-shot): Kills target with electricity and fire. If the kill is prevented, then you kill the first person to target the target.
-Fireball (One-shot): Kills target, ignoring any protection it may had.
-Contingency (One-shot, trigger): When you are killed or lynched, you can perform a last kill on someone.
-Delayed Blast Fireball (One-shot): Kills target with fire. You can choose when the spell will take effect, up to three days later. The target can't be changed, though.

You win when all threats have been eliminated.


The town vig. Fire-lighting bolt was there as a double edge weapon. Yes, it could kill the doc, but taking into account that scum had a doc, it could help town. Contingency would have saved town, but sadly ThAdmiral claimed too early.

When you were a kid a bunch of wizards razed your town, and now you want vengeance. You came here with Riceballtail and gandalf5166, and you are bound to kill all wizards, even if it cost you your life.
Even thought you can all use a killing spell, only one kill can be performed each night. You want those wizards to feel the same fear you felt when you were kids. One sorcerer must submit the kill with one of its abilities, while the other two can use other abilities that night. Here are your spells:

-Summon Monster (One-shot): Kills target, can't be tracked back to you (although a tracker or watcher may know that it was a monster that performed the kill)

The second scum (RBT), a trickster of sorts. False thoughts was the golden weapon of this role. False Vision and Alter Self were other interesting abilities, that never saw light.

-Repulsion (One-shot): You can't be targeted that night.
-Control Undead (One-shot): You target a dead player. That dead player will use a random action. If it's investigative, you'll receive the same information.

The last scum (gandalf), the scum supporter. The real power of this role was the ability to allow day communication (to be honest, I believe it was subutilized, but well...)

Magekiller - KatsukiWelcome to the Magic Order Academy. You are a member of a powerful organization dedicated to eliminating all magic from the world. Your assignment is quite simple: Infiltrate and eliminate all magic-users. ALL. You have been trained in certain arts that will give you some help in your task:

-Protection from Magic (unlimited): All magic effects directly on you have no effect. However, there are spells that can still affect you, as they don't target you directly.
-Smite (unlimited): You kill target player.
-Deadly Blade (One-shot): Kills target player, ignoring protections.
-Deadly Arrow (One-shot): Kills target player, the death can't be tracked back to you.
-Kidnapping (One-shot): You remove target player from the game. Removed from the game is similar from dead, except for a few minor differences, like the fact that it won't flip the next day.
-Antimagic Amulet: Should you become aware of the name of a spell another player have, that spell is permanently blocked. Should you become aware of the role name of a player, all that player's abilities are permanently blocked. These remain blocked even after your death.

You are so zealot, that you must perform a kill each night, if possible.

You win when all magic-users are dead, even if you are not alive.


The serial killer. It packed quite a punch with those abilities, but it was not invulnerable. There were some abilities that could pierce his protections. In fact, there are special hidden notes regarding this role:

-The sorcerers's Magic Missile can't be sealed by the antimagic amulet.

-For the Antimagic Amulet to work, the player who owns the ability needs to be the one who claims its name. Other players claiming the name of other player's abilities won't trigger the effect of the amulet.

-Arcane Lock, Dimension Door, Fog Cloud, Fireball, Arcane Eyes, Prying Eyes, Permanent Image, can pierce through the Magekiller's Protection from Magic, as technically, they do not target the player per se.

-An ability sealed by the Antimagic Amulet will be treated as roleblocked all nights following the claim (the player will know the ability failed).

So, that's all about it regarding roles. Feel free to ask any question.

You would appear out of the game, possibly screwing scum plans for that night. Yes, the post restriction wasn't too helpful. But well, some abilities of town weren't exactly helpful.

You claimed it after Katsuki died. The antimagic amulet only worked as long as he was alive (although abilities sealed by it remained sealed even after his death).

Creation is a subspecialization of Conjuration. All of chesskid spells (Dimensional Door is the exception, I believe), fall into the Creation category. Pyromancer is either a prestige class or the name some evokers get when they specialize in fire spells. I didn't name all roles according to basic specializations as that may lead to some claiming issues.
2.) Abilities that shouldn't ever be used:
-Stinking Cloud (One-shot): Ends the day with a no-lynch. You can use this ability during the day by sending me a PM.
-Invisibility (One-shot): You become invisible until the end of the next day (you can't post but you can vote by sending me a PM).

I can understand putting some silliness in there but both of those just make me itchy. Not like:

I don't like death millers. I really don't like anti-millers. Especially when they have a fakeclaim that paints the real claim in a bad, bad light. MAYBE in a large, but a mini that hurts a lot.

But, that amulet. That godsforsaken amulet.

In a PR-heavy setup like this that one makes me cry tears of blood. It wont impact scum at all (since they're pretty much lying) but it acts as a "get massclaim, town does not win the game" button. Even IF they kill the SK after that point.

I like the idea, but the way it was enacted hurts.
There were some abilities, as you say, that weren't mean to be used. They would have hurt town more than help it. Still, they were there. Sometimes you have to learn NOT to push the button in order to win. The anti-death miller wasn't as bad as a death-miller. In all, you'd think you were in 9-2-1 instead of 8-3-1. It just give her scumbuddies a way to perform a different tactic.

And the amulet, well, I clearly told you in the rules that claiming wasn't a good thing, didn't I? I even posted saying that you should remember the rule, but yet you all went claiming crazy. I know it was a bit heavy on town, and possibly on scum, but that was the point. In such a heavy PR game, scum and sk needed a way to gain the upperhand in case town gets the idea of "let's all mc and break the game, yay!"

This game was largely based on flavour, and that could have possibly broken it. Giving fakeclaims would have worked, but that was not the idea.

I must admit that I had mixed feelings about the anti-death miller when I was building the setup, but I decided to leave it in the end. I didn't think it was going to be that bad.

But don't worry, next one won't have death millers of any sort (but it will have something else... ¬_¬ Nothing bastard, I promise. )

I really don't want to sound harsh, but I'd want vezok to gain a bit more experience before playing in the next game. And maybe andrew too.
