The year is the future. A starship glides through space, several years from it's destination - a distant planet, unoccupied but rich in resources, that has been selected for terraforming. The crew, a few dozen scientists and engineers recruited from different nations and organisations to work together on this project, are all being held in stasis.

Well, not quite all all. Two of the crew are employees of Dominion Inc, a company which has secret ambitions to secure this planet and it's resources for themselves. After setting their stasis pods to wake them mid-flight, they now move around the pod bay, eliminating the rest of the crew while they sleep, switching off the life support systems of each of the other pods in turn.

Their task is almost complete, when the ship gives a sudden shudder and jolt as if hit by a meteor. It was hit by a meteor. Sirens blare. The computer starts up and begins waking the remaining crew; meanwhile the Dominion Inc employees swiftly climb into the nearest pods to mimic the bleary eyes and yawns of the others.

The force of the crash nudges the ship into an off-centre orbit around a nearby star. The computer systems and the ship have both been damaged and are in need of repair, but as the crew awaken and survey the rows of lifeless bodies, they realise there may be a more urgent threat to their safety...

The Rules

3) Do not quote/screenshot any communication you have with me, the moderator of the game. You may paraphrase things I have sent you (such as a role title, abilities and results) but direct quoting is not allowed.
4) Be courteous to your fellow player. This is just a game - please don't bring any personal grudges in. Lets have fun, okay!


> Voting, Lynching & Death

5) For your vote to be counted, it must be bold, and in the form VOTE: Fenchurch. Using the vote tag is optional but preferred, ultimately I will use my judgement in counting whether a vote is valid or not.

Unvotes
are not necessary, but will be appreciated.
7) A lynch will occur when a player achieves 50% +1 of the votes. When this has happened, any subsequent votes and unvotes will not be counted, and the game will enter twilight. Night will begin as soon as I have declared the lynch. The town may opt to 'no lynch' in lieu of lynching a player on any day. VOTE: No Lynch is the format for this.
8) Once you're dead, you are dead. Do not post in the thread until the game is over, not even a 'bah' post, for real.


> Activity & Deadlines

9) Prods will be issued after 48 hours in a row without posting (weekends count as one day) or under request from players. Multiple prods will probably lead to your replacement.
10) Things come up in life. If you need time off for something, please let myself and the players know in-thread for V/LA purposes. I will be flexible, but if you can't be here for a significant amount of time I will replace you.
11) This game is using bankable deadlines. This means that any unused time from a Day Phase carries over to the next day.
12) Day 1 deadline is set for 21 days, while every Day Phase thereafter is set for 14 days (before adding any banked time).
13) In the event of a deadline ending without a player gaining a majority of votes, there will be no lynch.
14) Nights will have a 72 hour deadline. If you fail to send in a nightaction, you will automatically default to 'no action' for that night, and you will do nothing.
15) In the event of replacements or any other disturbances, I will grant a deadline extension. Laziness isn't an excuse though.


> Miscellaneous

16) Please do not use small/invisible text, stenography or advanced forms of coding/cryptography. Breadcrumbing is an acceptable form of basic coding. Please contact me via PM if you're unsure about where the line is.
17) Any flavour text I write will have no indication of any player's alignment. Feel free to waste your time guessing if you want though.
18) Do not try to exploit any loopholes there may be in this rule-set. I reserve the right to add, remove or modify existing rules at any time. If this happens, I will let everyone know.
19) The game thread will only be open after I have sent all role PMs out. Mafia will have 48 hours to talk in quicktopic once they've picked up their role PMs, regardless of how long confirmations take.

Note: Rule 19 added during confirmations.

This game uses the following set-up:

2 x Mafia Goons
3 x Townies
2 x Town Power Roles, chosen at random and without duplication from the following list: Cop, Doctor, Roleblocker, Miller.

You are a
Mafia Goon
, together with xxxx. You are an evil scientist employed by Dominion Inc, and you want to eliminate the remaining crew so that you can secure the new planet and it's resources for your company.

During the night only, you may communicate with your partner in this quicktopic, and choose one player to kill, please notify me of your choice via PM or in the quicktopic. I will assume that the person submitting the kill is the one carrying it out, unless you specify otherwise. If you do not make a submission by the night deadline, no kill will go through.

You win when only mafia remain, or nothing can prevent the same.

Townie
. You are a good scientist, who has been sent on a mission to terraform a new planet.

You have no special abilities during the night. But during the day, you have a vote and a voice, use them wisely.

You win when all the mafia have been eliminated.

. You are sided with the town. You are a scientist on a mission to terraform a new planet, but you also have training on the ship's database and crewlist, although the computer is damaged so it'll take a while to decode the data.

Each night, you can run a background check on another player, and identify whether that player is Mafia or not. During the day, you have a vote and a voice.

You win when all the mafia have been eliminated.

Doctor
. You are sided with the town. You are a scientist on a mission to terraform a new planet, but you also have training in the life-support systems of the pods.

Each night, you can put a protection chip into the life support system of another pod, protecting that occupant from being killed that night. You cannot protect yourself.

You win when all the mafia have been eliminated.

Roleblocker
. You are sided with the town. You are a scientist on a mission to terraform a new planet, and you also have the keys to the stasis pods.

Each night, you can secretly lock one other player's pod, preventing their actions their actions that night from succeeding.

You win when all the mafia have been eliminated.

. You are sided with the town. You are a scientist on a mission to terraform a new planet, and during the recruitment process, that damn Human Resources department kept screwing up your details. You just know that they put you down as a Dominion Inc employee, even though you aren't.

If there is a Cop and they target you, they will receive a result indicating that you are Mafia.

You win when all the mafia have been eliminated.

You hustleBlakAdder into the airlock and wave goodbye. This time, all that appears on the computer screen is a list of warning messages - the ship has been leaking since the damage and atmospheric conditions have now reached critical level. Urgent repairs are needed.

charter and edmund set to work on some welding, whilst Thor665 goes on a spacewalk to fix the power supply, supervised by CommieX on the inside. It's not long before Thor's lines are cut leaving him drifting helplessly away from the spaceship, whilst CommieX is welded to death…


charter and edmund.angles finish the repairs, and woosh off into the stars.

Thanks all for being excellent players in my first modded game. I'd appreciate any feedback or suggestions you may have. I was really pleased with the level of play, and activity in the game. One thing I regreted as soon as we'd started were the deadlines, I realised 2 weeks/10 days bankable would have been more appropriate for a 7-player game, but it didn't seem right to reduce it having already begun, and so I was really glad when you didn't fall into the trap of dragging it out needlessly.

Night 1 actions:

smashbro investigates BlakAdder. (Result = not mafia)
charter kills smashbro.

charter and edmund, please let me know if you're okay to post the scumtopic.

I didn't set up a dead topic since the game was short, but smashbro messaged me and I offered to tell him if was right on his picks, he went for Thor and edmund (this was at the start of Day 2). Oh, I liked his comment in this message to me:

Thanks for the positive comments! Unfortunately I can't take credit for the set-up, I merely chose it from the Open Games list. And edmund, of course I didn't mind you adding your own flavour :)

If I was playing, I'd also have opposed massclaim, edmund and charter have already done a good job of outlining the reasons. Pie's opinion on massclaim isn't the only one, and there really is no consensus about when is the right time for it, and who benefits most. I think I'd say D1 massclaim might be a good idea in a slightly larger game, or when the number/types of PRs are unknown, or when there's a vig/roleblocker who might accidently kill/block one of the other town PRs.

The "I am an unspecified PR" might have worked but only if the miller was not already revealed. But I don't think it would have made the D1 lynch more accurate if you'd known on that day smashbro was cop; you weren't about to lynch him anyway. Your thinking seems to be that if you could only narrow down your pool of suspects to 5 players then it will suddenly become easy to spot the scum among them, which really isn't the case (and it didn't happen on D2) - you still need to scrutinise each player, to scumhunt. And I don't think having competing claims on D2 is that bad either, often enough you can work out someone is lying from a bad fakeclaim.

}|{opa, your suggestion to have the Miller claim was reasonably good, but I was shocked when you asked to go last, since I knew you were town. I can understand why that came over as a scum-tactic, as a rule of thumb townies should not lie to protect themselves, since scum are the ones lying it will make you indistinguishable from them. It would have been better to call for the miller-claim and volunteer to be the
first
to go.

On the whole though, good play, and it was an enjoyable game to watch! I'd happily play with any of you if I get the chance :)
