I think they're trying to drive suspicion from themselves, so that when one of them flips scum, the other one looks more innocent. On the side, Richard is trying to put suspicion on Parama, which could reduce the attention on both of them.

However, Sorasgoof himself looks like he's playing from a position of knowledge, regarding the roleblocking speculation. If he was mafia, he might not reserve everything for his nighttalk, especially if he's slipping in an attempt to appear pro-town.

But Richard didn't phrase his vote that way, his phrasing makes me think CKD's thoughts more likely the case.
