The left eye on the Doc (looking at the picture) is a little cock-eyed. I needs to be tilted counter-clockwise a little. Other than that, pretty cool!
I like most of SL's shirts too. The first is my favorite, but I do once again implore a color other than black for that specific shirt.[i]Currently lurking about...

Meant to post here a couple days ago, keep putting it off 'cause I've been sick. Anyway.
Re: T-shirts, I think most people like SL's design for the front, and something simple for the back (Jahudo's version, for example). Still open to simple site logos (rather than just MafiaScum.net in text) and alternate slogans. But I think we'll just do the one design for now, maybe with a couple options for color schemes (Black, obviously; maybe a Green one with black stickfigures as an alternate, to make Glork and the GST crowd happy?).
Re: Cards, mikeburnfire gave permission to use characters from his flash animation (or a similar design, anyway). I kinda like the idea of using them, since it's one of the things that is quite well known even among other Mafia communities. I don't think Jahudo's drawings meet the resolution requirements we'd need for good quality cards.
I'll put together some mock cards myself next week, and also a draft of a card list.-

Ok, I've started a little list of "essential" cards to include. I'm probably forgetting some obvious ones. One goal is to be able to run as many of our favourite tested open setups as possible, so some of the cards are specifically for that purpose.
Suggestions?
Mafia Godfather
Mafia Goon x4
Mafia Roleblocker
Traitor (how often is the traitor used these days?)
Alpha Wolf (not sure how necessary this is... most multigroup games don't have godfathers)
Werewolf x4
Serial Killer
Townie x?
Cop x2 (for double cop)
Doc x2
Jailkeeper
Vigilante
Roleblocker
Tracker
Watcher
Mason x4 (not sure how necessary this is, but there are a few setups with large mason groups)
Deputy
Nurse
Supersaint (for SS3)
Seer
Other Werewolf-specific roles?
How could we deal with one-shot roles? (Other than the obvious "If there's a Vig in this game, it's a one-shot".)-

Alpha Wolf is absolutely essential to me; most of my multifaction games do include leaders, because those are the easiest roles to give NK immunity to (for example).
Speaking of which, how might the deck deal with Variant Sanity Cops?
I count approximately 30 roles above. Assuming a 54 card deck, that still leaves room for 20 Townies even if we include Insane, Naive, and Paranoid Cop cards. Probably a second SK too just in case.Retired as of October 2014.-

There will definitely be blanks.
For Cops, we wouldn't have cards for specific sanities (which are almost never known - the player just receives "Cop" and has to work out sanity). If a game has more than one of a role (or the Mod wants that to be a possibility, in a closed game), the best way to handle it is to wake up each player individually (along with any groups)... the Mod would just have to determine some way of deciding which Cop was which sanity.
For dethy-style setups, or any other setup with lots of one role (Quack, Bad Idea/Texas Justice, etc.), the Mod can just use the Townie cards and explain the setup in advance. I don't think it would be worthwhile to include 8 Cops just in case some crazy person wants to run a closed dethy^2 game (though I did that anyway when I printed my jeepfest deck).
Open to less common roles to include. One thought I had a few days ago that I had forgotten about is that we could look through any Smalltown games and takes some roles from those (a Smalltown game could be run easily by using Goon/Townie for alignment and the other cards face up for roles). Hider, Doublevoter, Governor, Mayor...-

I can't believe I didn't think of this until now. Links below, but Artscow is having a deal where you can make a customized deck of playing cards (customizing the fronts each of 54 cards!) for 5.77including shipping! The deal supposedly ends on 4/30, so it might take some fast acting to make this work. I would love to have some mafia themed cards, even if it's re-doing the jeepfest cards. Does anyone with mad photoshop skills want to take up the challenge?

Also re: cops and docs, I vastly prefer if several cops and docs are differentiated by letter or number (Cop A, Cop B, Cop C, etc...), so that games that might have several such roles can be called out by role and letter (and forbid letter claiming in games). It's easy enough to add, and shouldn't provide any confusion to the roles."When playing a game, the goal is to win, but it is the goal that is important, not the winning." -Reiner Knizia

For what it's worth, if someone came up with cards for a good mafia deck and uploaded them to an album so I could use them to make a deck, I would be willing to personally tip for such services if I saw fit to use them. (I suspect others might be willing as well.)
Regardless of this, if different mafiascum cards ever come to fruition, I will certainly be purchasing those as well. (I think I have a set of every kind I've ever seen, including Lupus in Tabula, with one deliberate exception.) Of course, it might be easiest to do some official mafiascum.net cards using Artscow, and I'm sure people wouldn't mind paying a reasonable markup for official mafiascum cards if they supported the site."When playing a game, the goal is to win, but it is the goal that is important, not the winning." -Reiner Knizia

This is the list I've got at the moment. Any changes you would make? We could always do a supplemental deck with more obscure stuff, if there's a demand for that. I really need to go through recent games and see what's "in style" at the moment.
A lot of the roles aren't strictly necessary with an experienced group/mod - the Monks are primarily for Masons & Monks, but in an Open Setup you could use any old pair of cards to represent the Monks and announce it beforehand. So if there are better options that would see more use in closed setups...
Code: Select all
1 Mafia Godfather 5 Mafia Goon 1 Mafia Roleblocker 1 Alpha Wolf 3 Werewolves 1 Serial Killer 2 Cop 1 One-Shot Cop 1 Seer 1 Tracker 1 Watcher 2 Doctor 1 Roleblocker 1 Vigilante 1 One-Shot Vig 1 Jailkeeper 1 Nurse 1 Deputy 1 Bodyguard 2 Lover 1 Commuter/Hider 1 Supersaint 3 Mason 2 Monk 1 Lyncher 2 Blanks 15 Townie 54

I say 1 "normal" deck, with the Standard Mafia, Townie and such roles that you'll find or every site, then the "obscure" deck with some Normal roles + a few MS only roles."Animorpherv1's posts are so powerful that prolonged exposure may cause vertigo, nausea, acute tinnitus, and in rare cases, death." - vonflare

Well I saw this thread a while ago and thought I might add some rough ideas to it as I get bored easily and it was something to do. So here are some basic card pics and an example of a card and a t-shirt. I’m not the best at drawing and know that but am just trying to provide something basic and ideas that maybe a better artist could expand on.
Mafia Godfather, Mafia Roleblocker, Mafia Goon, Serial Killer.
Vanilla Townie, Cop, Doctor, Nurse, Vigilante
Tracker, Watcher, Body Guard, Monk, Seer, Hider
Alpha Werewolf, Werewolf, Blank
And here is a rough example of how it could be worked into a card.
And the t-shirt which would need to have a slogan on the back too. Just another idea to throw out there.

For a t-shirt, I had the idea of trying to show how a mafia game plays out, similar to the "demo game" thing in MBF's flash intro. Like, little grey xkcd-style stick figures point at each other to vote, when someone's lynched they either go green or red depending. Nightkilled townies show up with blood splatters. And you can identify individuals by some distinctive piece of clothing, otherwise it's not terribly interesting. I envisioned showing a mafioso bussing out of nowhere and winning in 3p endgame. The image of the lone townie getting endgamed is quite dramatic =P
I have no idea if this would actually work.Succinctness is pro-town.

This. The shirt really seems to play into the mafia aspect of mafiascum.net. Just What I think was needed.strappado wrote:Love the tuxedo shirt! <3
As for the chrachters, therough version looks great. Definatley some teewks need (as in hair for more of the chrachters, maybe a bit more definition) needed."Animorpherv1's posts are so powerful that prolonged exposure may cause vertigo, nausea, acute tinnitus, and in rare cases, death." - vonflare
