You were at one point, but you just said you're tempted to revote him. It is scummy to vote somebody on something that most likely cannot be helped. If qwints really does have a restriction that makes him post like that, than it is not voteworthy. I'm a gambling man, but I'm not gambling on voting somebody who, given that it's Mind Screw, simply might have the misfortune to be unable to communicate.

And if you're trying to use standard scumtells here, I can pretty safely say you're in the wrong game.

Then again, qwints could be the one accessing the Tarhalindur account, but that's speculating.

Opportunistic voting is not the entirety of your case. Attempting to use your meta to defend yourself is also part of this mix. I don't give a damn about other people's meta. I prefer to judge people by what is presented in front of me, not e.g. what was presented in a game that was played five years ago.

OK, guys, since I've lived to Day 3, my ultimate has been activated, and I've been given some inside information by the mod that I'd like to share with you, and he said it's OK.

We do indeed have a cult. We also have a player in the game not in the player list, but that might have been MafiaSSK.

Jesters, SK, cult... survivor and lyncher should be next.

I wonder if we even have a mafia at all.
I thought for a moment that we've already lost all our survivors, but it turns out that I mistook the jesters for them.

I would not be surprised if the cult is the only strictly anti-town faction (left, anyway), but this is
REALLY
the wrong place to speculate about the setup.

this is a very different situation. he failed to include that we have a free cop inv. controlled by the town which changes things a lot. and also, that he is one of the main candidates for the investigation.
So it is necessary for him to reference it; is this what I understand from your post?

Specially one from this list?
Of these people, hasdgfas is obviously a double voter, so I think investigating him is a waste of time. TehVariable would make a nice investigation target IMO, and I have a gut feeling about qwints. But I don't think we have to investigate the people on your wagon. (I already activated and stated my ultimate, so I'm not a good investigation target.)

I think the two best investigation targets are Kairyuu and whomever he counterclaimed (the CPU quota came up while typing this, so I have no way of checking at this time).

I didn't counterclaim anyone. I was accused of being Mao (with the correct name of my night action) and was therefore forced to come out with a full claim to explain my actions (and that I'm not Mao).
That's what I meant.

Xyl is by a long shot the towniest, sharpest scumhunter in the game.

For his vote, StrangerCoug becomes suspect. Now I have to look up the player order to vote for him, grrrrr.
My vote was based on a misunderstanding of how the claims were related. Honest mistakes ≠ scummy.

Why? Kairyuu hasn't reached his ultimate yet, and needs to activate 3 more dreams of reality to do so. This is pointless for the time being.
I thought the origin claims were necessary for him to activate the ultimate.

I'm not exactly sure I like Kairyuu anymore, but I think it's best to proceed with caution in terms of what he's been saying post-claim. Admitting to lying is a good way to kill people's own reads on you, and right now the neutral he claims (which I believe) is a best case scenario. I don't have any regrets with my origin claim at this time, but he needs to be watched carefully. For the moment, I think keeping him around will work out better in the long run.

I like DrippingGoofball even less and it comes off as wanting Kairyuu policy lynched. Yes, I'd normally invoke LAL on him too, but the first policy lynch we had this game didn't work out the way most of us wanted. This is a mind screw game, so I question
ANY
policy lynch working the way town wants it to.

I realize this is WIFOM, but don't you think the odds of Tar anticipating this kind of mentality are pretty high? Plus, MS2 was a mini, here we still have 2x as many people as MS2 started with.

Considering Ceph and Seraphim both turned up town, I'm at a loss. I would like to see some other people contribute as we still have a lot of lurkers. What I'm seeing right now is a concerted manhunt on a likely neutral player (yes, self-aligned is neutral and, as seen with jesters, will not end the game) when we should be hunting scum. I wonder why that is.. Yes, his abilities affect everyone, in fact, for all intents and purposes, it seems to me that he IS Mr. Mind Screw.
Didn't we speedlynch one of the jesters for claiming a neutral role, while we're on this subject?

I still say DrippingGoofball should die. Kairyuu can be debated forever and ever whom he benefits, but voicing the lynch of a suspected player as sub-optimal ≠ scummy. Yes, I've had second thoughts about Kairyuu too. I have posted them. That means solely that I like him less. It does not mean that we should be wasting our time stringing up a player that brings us no closer to winning the game.

No. Remembering a jester claiming neutral being lynched and thus getting us nowhere ≠ thinking Kairyuu is a jester claiming neutral and his lynch thus getting us nowhere. The only relevance jesters have to this topic of discussion is remembering one being speedlynched for claiming a neutral role (I believe survivor, but I have to go back and reread). Lynching Kairyuu, regardless of his actual role, will not get us any closer to winning unless he is a serial killer, which I don't see anything supporting.

All right, then, I'll bite. I'm less familiar with Mind Screw games than you are, and the concern that the cult win condition could conceivably be lynching Rule 0 was enough to make me reconsider. Um, hello? I don't have a solid case on anybody, but I'm not voting anybody either.

I didn't notice this from Machiavellian-Mafia, but I remember hasdgfas doing it. It's piqued my curiousity too, but I don't have reason to believe that it's scummy. Maybe this "vote cycling" is required to do something?

This is an interesting philosophical question. Does towniness depend on having the town win condition exactly?
I don't like your response. It's like you're dodging my question in an attempt to ridicule me.

Xylthixlm wrote:For the purpose of my argument about qwints, "town with added win condition" fits in the "not town" category as opposed to the "incompetent" category. A townie with an added win condition may have a good reason to do things which are bad for the town (consider townie+jester for instance).
Answer this for me then: Suppose you and I are lovers and you do not know that I am scum. Your win condition reads, "Under normal circumstances, you win when all threats to the town have been eliminated from the game; however, if StrangerCoug is scum and he wins, so do you if the two of you are alive." Are you, therefore, not town because I'm not either, even though that's not something you would know?

@SC: I don't understand what you're saying about Xyl's definition of town. If you mean him going after qwints, from what I understand qwints apparently thinks that he needs to meet his ultimate condition to win, which doesn't make him town, as far as I'm aware. If you mean something else, could you explain?
It's related to what you're talking about. I'm referencing Xylthixlm's "town with an added win condition not being town" bit, and he dismissed my questioning it as my asking a philosophical question, which he has elaborated little on.

There's a lot to analyze, but my input so far:
Xylthixlm wrote:Kills so far:
Talked to Death (forbiddanlight)
Excommunicated (Aries777777, dahill1)
Suicided (The Central Scrutinizer, DrippingGoofball) - Claimed by Tar
Killed Like A Man (Tarhalindur) - Claimed by malthusis
Killed by the Wrath of Mod (ZazieR)
Mysteriously Died (veerus)
Nuked (Vi)
Died a Martyr (malthusis) - Presumably malthusis's role ability
Liquefied (hasdgfas)

... that's a lot of kill methods. I hope there isn't one killer per method.
Probably not because it's
BARELY
if at all mathematically possible. It's possible that the mod likes reporting nightkills a different way each time. In Mini 716, I reported the nightkilled players as shot, decapitated, blown up, disemboweled, run over, stabbed, set on fire, shoved in a wood chipper, slapjacked, and gassed—in that order. (However, two sets of two kills overlapped, and one of them was the endgame kill.)

Since this is ModWIFOM, I'm allowed to comment.

Most previous Tarhalindur theme games have had unique kill methods for each player with a killing ability (one or more for each player), and the primary exception was due to a game mechanic (Ocarina of Time).

Just saying... - Tar
