Georgetown is a small town, founded fairly recently by a group of citizens who were inspired by your mayor, Honest George, to leave behind you the corruption of a city ruled by criminal gangs and build for yourselves a new haven of peace and tranquility. All seems to go well for a time until one day Honest George calls for a town meeting the following morning, saying that he has discovered evidence of wrong-doing and he intends to expose the perpetrators.

Next day you all turn up at his house but you are too late! You find Honest George slumped over his desk - dead - with a gunshot wound in his back. Looking closer you see that he didn't die instantly. There on the blotter on his desk you can make out the words, "Stop ................... before they take over. Don't let them have our town." Unfortunately, most of the first sentence was covered with blood and any names that he may have managed to write were obliterated.

It can only be that the mafia have infiltrated your pleasant little Utopia. With no clue yet as to who they could be you all start looking at each other with suspicion and the finger pointing begins.

Rules



1. This is a game. Have fun. Play to win but don’t make personal attacks or use obscene or profane language. Just play your part and help to make the game fun for everyone :D

2. Please do not talk about this game outside of the thread unless your role PM permits it, and then only at the stated times.

3. Please do not use invisible or very small text. I will be posting in green so please don't use that either.

4. All votes must be bolded, (e.g.
Vote: playername
) and preferably on a new line. Unvotes would be nice but are not essential.

5. A simple majority is required to lynch* and when this has been reached any further votes/unvotes will be ignored.

6. Once the lynching vote has been cast the lynched player must stop posting, apart from a short 'bah' post which must not contain any game-related content, but the living players may continue to post during twilight. Night-killed players may also make one short contentless post.

7. Nights will usually last 72 hours. Any night action sent after the posted deadline will be ignored.

8. Do not quote any PMs you receive or claim to have received from me or other players. You may paraphrase them if you wish, but if you are not sure your wording will be acceptable then you are welcome to check with me first.

9. Any requests/points addressed to me in the thread (including problems with vote counts) should be bolded. If you have any complaints/problems with this game, please send me a PM rather than posting them in the thread.

10. Please treat this game as a commitment and try to keep active - it's more fun that way! If you know you are going to be unavailable to read the thread for a period of more than 48 hours please indicate that in thread (and not just in your signature). If it is likely to be a long absence I may have to consider replacement.

11. I will be prodding anyone who does not post for more than 72 hours, or 96 hours over a weekend, without having given prior notification, and will be giving them 48 hours to acknowledge the prod by posting in the thread. If anyone doesn't acknowledge or needs prodding too often I will look for a replacement.

I reserve the right to add to or modify these rules if necessary.

Deadline policy

If there are eight or more players remaining then a minimum of four votes will be required to lynch at deadline, six or seven players will require a minimum of three votes; with less than six players remaining a majority will be required. If there should be a tie, I will declare No Lynch.

I'm not a fan of cutting short active discussion but with the holiday period looming I would like to have both day one and night one over before Christmas so that there's no pressure on anyone over the Christmas/new year break. So I'm setting a provisional deadline of

As the citizens begin to discuss they start to point fingers and one person after another faces the town's scrutiny. Is this a sign of guilt? Is that? Eventually one person seems to be getting most attention.

"But I'm your Doctor", he cries, pointing to the medical diploma hanging on his wall. Concerned at the risk of losing a valuable member of the community you look elsewhere but as sunset approaches the talk swings back to StrangerCoug. You go round to his house to see if he has anything more to say but when you get there a shocking sight meets your eyes. Hanging from a rope thrown over a rafter you find the "doctor" already dead. He has obviously accepted the inevitable and taken his own life.

On closer examination you see that his medical diploma is clearly a forgery. But if he wasn't the doctor then who was he?

As the dawn chorus signals the start of a new day the sound is interrupted by the most mournful howling. It seems to be coming from Ythill's house so you all gather there and see, in front of the house, his faithful hound lying beside the dead body of his master. Examining the corpse you find that Ythill has been shot in the head. He appears to have been ambushed on his way back from somewhere but where had he been? Had he discovered anything? Unfortunately, if he did you will never know.

Delighted at having found one evil-doer, but knowing from this morning's grim discovery that he was not the only one troubling the town, you continue your search. Some of you immediately make accusations while others muse on the events of yesterday. Suspicion quickly falls on Cephir but some are not so sure and have more questions and others are busy as this is the holiday season. Eventually the decision is made and, despite his protests of innocence, you fetch a rope, drag him out to the town square and make use of a convenient tree. You eagerly search his house but find ... absolutely nothing to link him with any criminal activity.

Having already disposed of one fake doctor the town seems wary when another citizen says that

is the real doctor. After much debate the majority of you decide to ignore his claims and lynch him anyway. However, on searching his house you realise that he had been telling the truth. This doctor's qualifications were not forgeries!

Having spent a restless night the town awoke to the sound of a gunshot. Running out into the town square Corvuus and Illumina found Elmo lying dead on the ground with a cloaked figure standing over him who turned towards them raising a gun as they approached. It was MacavityLock. LLamaFluff, who had followed them out, also produced a gun. It was then that they realised it was all over. The mafia they hoped they had left behind in the city were now in control of Georgetown.

Was it just coincidence that Atlas changed his avatar to an apple just after the game started? Or could it have been a breadcumb?

Yes, I didn't handle the deadlines very well. I was afraid of the game stalling but with hindsight I might have done better to just stick with the individual prods; especially on the last day. I welcome any comments on this or any other aspect of the game as I still have a lot to learn.
