Okay, the written text below was first used by Mastermind of Sin in Newbie 540. Therefore, while I am using it here, all credit goes to him along with much appreciation. Without further ado:

I'm going to start off by claiming.

I am the doctor

. Now, your first reaction may be, "Why is he claiming that he's the doctor? That's just going to get him killed...". Your second reaction may be to assume that this is some sort of scum gambit. I suggest you think things through carefully before you act on this, though.

My claim does a number of things:

1) If I am not actually the doctor, the doctor should NOT counterclaim me. I repeat, do NOT counterclaim. That would be stupid, and it would only further my own goals if I am scum.
2) Since there is no counterclaim, the mafia do not know if I really am the doctor. They will be stuck in a perilous circle of wifom that will paralyze their actions at night. They will probably try to get me lynched so that they don't have to worry about nightkilling me.
3) Since the mafia have to figure out whether or not to nightkill me, we have some options to complicate things for them. *If* I am not the doctor, the doctor can either choose to protect me to nullify the mafia's kill for the night, or not protect me and let me die. Either way, something good happens (power role won't get killed). I would die as a townie and draw the mafia's kill, or the mafia would not get a kill that night. It all depends on whether or not the real doctor believes I am town pulling this gambit or mafia pulling it.
4) As the real doctor in the open, I can operate on a grander scale than normal and manipulate the mafia, whether they like it or not. Since my claim is already out in the open, there is nothing to hold me back when I take action.
5) The benefits of this plan may not seem obvious to you, and that's good. That means it shouldn't be obvious to the mafia, either. It's not supposed to be. This plan is tricky and hard to pull off, and it depends entirely on what the mafia decide to do about it. I'm counting on the WIFOM behind all this to trick them into making the wrong move, which will allow the town to be victorious.

I think that about covers it. Alright mafia, bring on the votes. I'm ready for ya.

@Amor: What were we supposed to do? I wanted to generate some discussion in this 'dead-end' game by voting for him. I was also trying to see which of the scum would follow in my footsteps by adding votes to the vote count for Mamaluigi, bringing him closer (but not enough to actally do so) to lynch him.

@Syzygy: From our game's only lynch, and our current predicament, I don't think that lynching all lurkers (is that what it meant?) will work here. However, your words are probably true. If we keep a cool head, we can eke out a townie victory.

@iago: I withdrew my vote on Mamaluigi simply because he wanted to be the sacrificial lamb, and I had no desire to join him in doing so. My functionality exists when I'm still alive. Besides, if I retained my vote on him, you guys would almost certainly ask for a reason, and if I accused him of lying, then the scum would have a clue as to who I am and kill me off.

@neko: I'm not mzldr, don't ask me why he chose to save you. I just know who he tried to save. Also, power role = cop, isn't it?

I just find it curious that you would say 'a power role' (meaning a cop

a doctor) when you claim to be the doctor and should know that the cop would be the only other power role.


Though, your story is checking out. I still think there's a somewhat good chance that you're lying, but some of your strange behavior actually does make sense considering your doc claim. I'm thinking we should lynch Freckles today.

I am curious about one other thing, though. Why did you show no concern when I had my vote on you earlier? It was there for quite some time, and if you are indeed pro-town, you ought to have realized that it could've meant the end of the game if the two scum were someone other than me and dropped the last two votes.

Indigo Heron is no stranger to odd behavior. I was in another game with him (Newbie 610) where he was under pressure Day One for lurking, avoiding questions, and failing to provide promised analysis. His response was to vote No Lynch to gauge our reactions. Turned out he was our cop.

Using the term "power role" instead of the specific "cop" or "doctor" isn't a tell for him in my opinion. I've seen him do that before, too.

I'd be up for lynching him today if we didn't have a better suspect. Not remembering he unvoted a soft-claimed doc and then saying he unvoted him before the soft-claim (not true) and then providing a reason is not a good track record following a claim. I can't consider him cleared, but I am comfortable giving him a pass for the day.

I'm on board for lynching Freckles. More than once she has promised to "look into other players" but we never see any analysis. IIRC most significant vote she placed this game was for Grimmy, and when pressed on it she couldn't remember why she voted for him straight away. She has posted at various times that she is tired, busy, or drunk as excuses for lack of content. She's been lurking and coasting (to be fair I think she has said she has limited access for a good chunk of August). The best content we get from her comes when she is under scrutiny from the town (amazing how helpful and lucid people can be when the spotlight is on them). A good example of this is post 249. This woman is scum and we should lynch her.

As for Indigo's claim, I'm not sure it holds water. I've never been a power role before so it's hard for me to think with the "what would I do" scenario. I'm leaning towards believing him (or falling for it, whichever applies).

don't like IndigoHeron's claim, especially for the fact that he didn't counter-claim Sygyzy when he was hounding him for every single reason. It seems like when IH claimed now, he would have mentioned that as a factor for his vote on Sygyzy.

But at this point we might as well be positive that either Amor/iago or Freckles is scum. I've felt all game that Amor was pro-town, so I'd also be just as happy with a lynch on Freckles.
