Suppose someone Nths a nom, but then another person makes a point and now the first person disagrees with the title nom. Would the bot have a feature to let people retract their Nths?

Sorry, I'm trying to put some distance between you the person and the decisions you're making.

You've been consistently claiming that you're trying to listen to the "will of the people", yet you consistently ignore anyone that disagrees with you.

It's been a bad run where you've let spammers run wild, and now you're trying to make it permanent by automating it.

I believe this is still a good move; Psyche isn't saying that he'll be automating literally everything, just that the title threads will have a clearer VC and it's easier to keep track of noms throughout time with this method.

If that's all it is, I'm fine with it.

I just don't want the human element to be absent. If Psyche won't, find someone who will. This isn't a matter of enforcing my or anyone else's personal likes or dislikes, it's a matter of making sure there's an element of rigor to the process.

I like you, Psyche. But this is bad. This goes against the whole spirit of the position and the history of every title fairy that came before you. It's just a lazy popularity contest now.

If you dislike putting the time into the position or you don't want to be disliked for making unpopular judgement calls, then step down.

Otherwise petition Zor and Kison to let everybody edit their own titles instead of implementing this populist clique-promoting monstrosity.
This is also a good post

Psyche, why did you want to become a Title Fairy way back when and how has that transformed you to now?
Because from the way I see things, I don't think you enjoy being a Title Fairy?
The way things look from MY end, it comes across as you don't enjoy being a Title Fairy.

Also popularity contest so what?
The SUPP is probably the most important thing people care about on this site and it has the word POPULARITY in it.
Like, who cares? What honestly is the problem.

this is a thread that lets people give other people text under their name. Don't you think you're taking this a little bit too seriously?

The Title Fairy's role has always been to veto titles that aren't up to snuff, and in that regard automatically tallying the noms/nths for a title doesn't really change anything. All it really does is make it easier / more objective for the Title Fairy to see what level of support or opposition a title has in the thread, which is something they would need to ascertain anyway. It doesn't preclude their role in vetoing bad titles.

I guess the concern would be that the Title Fairy would lean too heavily on the votes when deciding titles to the point of okaying a title that goes against their judgment if it has overwhelming support. That may be so, but I don't see how that counts as an argument against the vote count mechanism itself.

I would like to add my voice to this.

The title fairy needs a human element.

I am okay with the human element being reduced. Tools to make the human's job easier? All for it. Tracking stuff automatically is fine by me. Reduce the workload on them, and all that.

But there needs to be someone saying "No." And being strict about it. Taking hard stances, even ones which go against popularity. To just say, "we're not doing that". And for that to not be on a number of nths versus antinoms.

Subjectivity is a part of the position, and one I place tremendous value on. It is an asset, a feature. Not a flaw.

I feel quite strongly that psyche is literally only doing this because programming is his hobby and he feels the need to cram it into everything he does

It will do at most very little, is probably more work than it is worth, does a job that doesn't need to exist, and many people find it more harmful than good, but psyche is going to do it anyway because for some reason this is the hill he wants to die on

It's stupid but it's happening with or without our consent

I think it’ll become obvious quite quickly that it’s doing more good than bad, but yeah sure I’m definitely doing it because I find it more fun than keeping things manual.
