mith wrote:What I told MoS is that I was concerned that he was acting as though it was already decided he was hosting an "official" meetup, given that there were others who were interested and that there was some concern about the hosting situation. Given that, I didn't want people committing to anything until it was discussed (and now some people are saying their already committed to it, of course...)

This was over two months ago, though. Since then I haven't really talked to MoS at all (didn't see him on AIM that much, and have been very busy with all sorts of other things), and this kinda slipped my mind. So, I do wish Thesp had PMed me just so I could fill him in on the status of that (and so I would remember that something needed to be discussed).

That said:

a. There is absolutely no reason there can't be two meetups. Or more. As MeMe implies, people are capable of gathering any time they like.* Thesp has not set a date yet, and even if they were the same week, the group of people able to go to both is probably pretty small anyway.
b.
If
we're going to have "official" yearly meetups (by official, I mean something that has been considered and endorsed by me or some as yet non-existent planning group, primarily for the purpse of giving the slackers who won't just turn up somewhere at a moment's notice motivation to come), claiming years well in advance is counterproductive. Being the first to suggest people come to you != being the best suited to host something like this.
c. But we don't have to have "official" meetups. Just keep in mind that these don't always work out, and saying you'll host something is no guarantee that people will turn up. And, on the other side of things: not every meetup has to be huge. Small meetups are good too.

*But if you don't at least let me know it's happening so I can randomly turn up, you may get your account banned.
Actually, your aim still has me randomly blocked, I'm online almost all the time. That's besides the point though. We really need to get that fixed lol.

Sorry I missed this earlier. Absolutely you can! In fact, I suspect there are very few (if any people) around here who would have such gear, so you would have a better chance finding things here than most other places! (I also have quite an M:tG collection to play with...)
Internet Stranger wrote:How am I supposed to pick between MOSfest and Thespival now? Who has the better offer?
If you can make it to both, that's awesome. If not, some more reasons to come to Thespival...

1. A comprehensive board game collection that will have something for everyone

2. Enough space in the house that the wusses who fall asleep before 2am can have their own room to sleep in, while we still have 2 living rooms and a dining room to play mafia and other games in

3. All the things aforementioned, including cookies and sweet tea (though we can make unsweet tea as necessary), and the best pepperoni lasagna you'll ever have

4. Three fire-bellied toads, which as I understand, are illegal to lick

5. We have TWO Dance Dance Revolution pads, so twice as many people can look smooth/silly at the same time

6. Hosts who are able to pony up some funds to have goodies and go places

7. A huge backyard for football, bocce ball, ultimate frisbee, and whatever violent sports you want to play

8. 3 computers in the office for networked games and checking on online mafia games when you get lynched in the face-to-face mafia games

9. Meeting some of your favorite mafiascum players, including the distinct possibility of a vanful of scummers via Missouri

10. A special souvenir to remember your experience

Just off the top of my head. ;)
Might as well make the counteroffer in here :P

1. I don't have a list, but I do have this:
http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/372/dscf00059mt.jpg
http://img481.imageshack.us/img481/392/dscf00124fa.jpg

2. We have a huge *finished* walkout basement to party in, plus an entire ranch-style upstairs for those who want to get away for a while/sleep.

3. I may or may not be able to get some old-fashioned sarsparilla (like root beer, but much better), not to mention the famous strawberry bread! There is also a distinct possibility of homemade pie, baked in a dutch oven (for those of you that don't know, a dutch oven is used by putting it on coals from a woodfire, then putting coals on top of the lid, too. This ain't no conventional oven, this is the good stuff! Might I add that these pies are the best I've ever had, so I will try hard to convince them to make some before MoS-Faire)

4. We have a pond and woods in our backyard full of toads, crickets, squirrels, etc.

5. N64, SNES, Sega Genesis, Playstation 1, and multiple TVs to play them all at once.

6. Any time there's a party at my house, there will be goodies :).

7. We have about half an acre of yardage (the other half is underwater), plus a large field less than a block away to go play any sort of game that you want. I might even be able to arrange for some monkey-brain bowling! ;)

8. Two laptops and 1 desktop on an in-house network, plus a wireless network throughout the house for anyone who wants to bring their computer along to play games or use the internet. There will be at least 2 or 3 other laptops/computers there for sure, from people I know are bringing theirs.

9. Meeting lots of awesome Scummers and GLers, even the KY Krew will be there!

10. Oh there will be souvenirs, I assure you of that :)

11. A dance floor in the party room for those who want to break it down.

12. Dartboards, need I say more?

13. A screened-in porch and an outside deck for those who want to go outside and enjoy the summer weather.

14. Lots of comfy couches and recliners to sleep in, as well as up to two guest rooms for the highest bidder (just kidding ;) ).

15. Enough magic cards to make 6 or 7 decks for those who want to play or have a tournament. Not to mention that we'll probably get a box of packs if enough people want to draft.

16. A multitude of snacks and munchies for anyone who gets hungry, including my favorite, chips and salsa! If I go visit my grandparents in south dakota before MoS-Faire, I'll bring back some D.L. Jardines Habanero salsa just for the festivities.

I may be able to make it to Thespival, if I can arrange it somehow. Is anyone from like the Chicago area driving down or something? Now that I know my work schedule, I may be able to make it. Depends on if I can get off class, too, though.

Yay PJ! Now I
have
to find a way to Thespival.

Me making it to Missouri/Kentucky is entirely dependant on catching the train and where I can get to on it. I won't have any other ride.

I can't afford to get a plane ticket, and my parents wouldn't pay for it. I could go transportation-wise if Quag was (and he isn't), but even then, my parents would be VERY hesitant about me going across to country to see people I've never met in person. Plus, it's the two days following my birthday. Maybe next year (or at least when I'm in college, and I'm almost a HS Junior) I can go to something, but right now it just isn't possible.
PBuG, if I was going to go, there's no
way
I'm driving all the way down to Mississippi. Driving straight from 7 PM to 7 AM was bad enough -- with a large chunk of that trip being through
Iowa
, mind you -- and that was with two people who could drive in case one got tired (I made it from Wisconsin to the top of Missouri before I had to nap). In other words, I'd be flying, too.

Unfortunately, I have neither the time nor the resources to do so. :(

Next year, PBuG, if there's someplace close by, I'll drive you.
If you were going to go, you could totally have driven to my house on one day then done the rest on the next day. Then I could've gotten a ride! Alas...

So. If I can find a way to come to Thespival, I'd like to bring Strawberry Bread. Now, you can take testimonials from people who were at MeMeMeet, and/or you can also wait until after MoS-Faire for more feedback. Therefore, for anyone that is interested, I will take orders for loaves of Strawberry Bread, and you can pay me back when I bring them to Thespival. I will post a price once I find out, I forget how much they cost.

Also, Thesp, if I take the Amtrak to the Jackson, MS station, can you pick me up at 11:12 AM on Friday, June 13th? Also, can I be dropped off again at the train station for the 5:44 pm train back on Monday or Tuesday?

At Sam's they have a box which is slices of Pineapple, Strawberry, and Tropical Fruit Bread for like $8. It's like 2/3 of a loaf of each.
This bread is better. Much better. They're famous for their strawberry bread here.

Alko, what if you notice someone about to assassinate you? There should be a way to foil assassinations, to avoid people running and jumping around the house to avoid a sticker. Some sort of protocol should be established to allow players to "avoid" assassination without breaking things. My suggestion would be that they have to say a certain phrase before they get hit with a sticker, or something. Anyways, something to think about.

Ya, I have thought about the risk of breaking things, and I'm trying everything in my power to avoid it. In original Assassin games, let's say for instance they're using nerf guns as a kill method. If you find out somebody is going to assassinate you, you can shoot them first and they can't do anything for an hour. This works well because since it's spread out across a college campus or an entire city, there's plenty of time to get away. However for us, we're all under one roof and will always be seeing each other, so a paralysis type defense won't work well. That's why I decided that you can assassinate your assassin in the same way you can assassinate your target. You just have to place your sticker before they place theirs, and when you do so, your assassin is dead.

I thought I put that in the rules, but it may have been another thing I missed.
You did, I'm just forseeing problems with that, but oh well. If Thesp is fine with it as is, then w/e.

Either when Jedi leaves for Thespival, or Thursday night that week.

I think someone should put an obvious codename down like "jhawk" (for me) to WIFOM people from assassinating them, or put down someone else's codename to trick people :P

Things to bring to Thespival:

Eagerness to have a good time
Mad Quicklynching Skillz
Blanket and/or pillow (we'll have spares if you forget/can't)
Cash for Harry Potter tickets + incidentals*
Digital Camera + cord to hook up to USB port of PC for picture uploading (if you have one)
Toothbrush
Enough clothes for your stay

* - We'll have food provided all day, every day, but if you want to make a fast food run, you're welcome to. I think there will be a run or two to the Fondren Beverage Emporium, which sells unique sodas of all sorts.
Is there a possibility of internet access? I'm bringing my laptop either way (have to do some work so I can get paid).
