Welcome to Prisoner's Dilemma Mafia II


Current Game Status: Game over!


The town police chief was very satisfied with the initial results of the state-of-the-art prison he built. The most frequent fate of prisoners was the desired result: death. Now the town has grown bigger, and signs point towards the infiltration of more bad guys. So the police chief stepped up the prison renovations and increased the prison capabilities. What will happen this time is anyone's guess...

Same town, bigger population, more good guys, more bad guys, new and improved prison, and one simple question: "yes or no?"

MM’s Regular Rules (Stolen and Modified from Mr. Flay):
  • The game will have a 72-hour Confirmations/Pregame phase after roles are sent. Then the game will begin with Day 1.
  • Votes should be in bold for them to count, like this:
    Send: MM
    . Unvotes should likewise be bolded (
    Unsend: MM
    ) so that I can spot them easier.
  • Nights usually will last up to 96 hours, but may be shorter or longer depending on circumstances.
  • Dead men tell no tales. If you get killed, stop talking until the game is over.
  • Do not discuss this game with other players outside of this thread, unless your role PM specifically stated you could do so.
  • Do not directly quote any PMs you receive; this holds true for any future messages you receive from me as well.
  • If you see something you don't understand,

    If you have any questions feel free to PM me directly.
  • I will prod players for being inactive for over 96 hours, and then possibly replace at my discretion.

[mrow]Prisoner's Dilemma[col]Player X Says No[col]Player X Says YesPlayer Y Says No[col]Both X and Y chooses one of these: sane daycop investigation, doc protection (may self-protect), 100% daykill next day.[col]X gets double vote next day and chooses one of either daycop investigation, doc protection (may self-protect), or next-day Prisoner Immunity. Y executed instantaneously by lethal injection.Player Y Says Yes[col]X executed instantaneously by lethal injection. Y gets double vote next day and chooses one of either daycop investigation, doc protection (may self-protect), or next-day Prisoner Immunity.[col]X and Y choose each other’s poisonous injection chance of death from 0-100%. Then both players will receive poisonous injections with the chance of death being the average of the two percentages selected.


Special Rules (add “unless specified otherwise” to end of each rule):


1. Day 1 has a 6-week deadline. Day 2: 5 weeks. Day 3: 4 weeks. Day 4 and later: 3 weeks.

2. Each player has two votes to vote on two different players to be sent to prison. Both votes cannot be used on same player. Players should use the tags
Send: MM
and
Unsend: MM
. I will not accept bolded “votes” and “unvotes”.

3. Whenever two players have reached the majority of votes at the same time, they get sent to prison for interrogation during the night. Those two players cannot post further for the rest of the current day.

4. Each day there can be up to 3 pairs of players sent to prison. When one pair of players has reached majority, all votes are reset for deciding the next pair of prisoners to be sent to prison. If players feel no more players should be sent to prison, the tags
Request: end day
and
Unrequest: end day
should be used. A request to end the day resets the 2 current votes of a player. The day ends immediately if there is a majority of end-day-requests or if 3 pairs of players have been sent to prison.

5. If deadline is reached and no pair of players has been sent to prison yet, the two players with the most votes at the deadline will be sent to prison. The tiebreaker is whoever reached a certain number of votes first. If the deadline is reached and at least one pair of players has already been sent to prison, nothing happens and the day ends.

6. While in prison, the pairs of players will be asked the question: “Is the other player mafia?” The results are shown above.

7. I will publicly announce the Yes/No answers for prison interrogations and the Percentages given in the Yes-Yes PD scenario.

8. Players in prison cannot use abilities on others outside of prison and others outside of prison cannot use abilities on players in prison.

A new morning means an appearance by the Police Chief. He starts off by announcing the interrogation results:

"SlySly/Lowell said No/No"
"Empking/RossWilliam said No/Yes"
"Plum/DrippingGoofball said No/No"

He continues, "There were three total deaths last night. The first is obviously the execution of Empking. The second is unfortunately CounselWolf, who was shot by a pistol. The third fortunately is a mafia member Abstract Actuary, who was killed by sniper fire."

But then he surprises everyone by saying:

"I have decided to prematurely capture DrippingGoofball, SlySly, and Plum into prison for Day 2. You all will decide who will pair up with each of these players in prison tonight."

Another day bring another surprise. But this one may be a lot more costly for the town. The Police Chief begins announcing:

"Our prison was hit with a poison gas attack last night. None of the interrogations were completed. Unfortunately 4 people, Narsis, Lowell, Plum, and RossWilliam, were poisoned to death. Other in prison were able to escape safely."

He adds, "There were also two other deaths last night. Kublai Khan is longer with us due to a shot by a pistol. The good new is that Albert B. Rampage, a mafia member, was killed by sniper fire."

The town has been dwindling rather quickly over the past few days. Unfortunately this trend seems to continue. The Police Chief shows up and announces:

You are a Protown Tracker. Each night you will receive radar tracking signals from players that have radar chips implants in their bodies. You do not know who is implanting the radar chips. You also will not know who is being tracked until you actually receive the signals.

It is now Day 4.
With 9 alive, a majority of 5 is needed to send a pair of players to prison.

As everyone was debating who to send to prison, a sudden loud gunshot was heard. It was undeniably one of the daykill powers...

. You have the following special abilities:

1 Kill attempt per night: During each night, you may PM me a kill choice.
One-Shot Bulletproof Vest: Protection from the first kill attempt on you. You will be notified if this occurs.
One-Shot Heroism: The first time you are sent to prison, people will recognize you to be a town hero, so both you and your prison partner will be released without undergoing the interrogation process. That night you will still be staying in prison, so you are essentially protected and roleblocked for that night.

You also know that there is no Protown Vigilante in this game.
You win when you are the last one standing.

Traitor Recruitment: There is a
Mafia Traitor
in the game and you do not know who it is. The Traitor knows who are in your Mafia group and your group's abilities. The Traitor's win condition is the same as your group's. During any night, one group member can PM me to recruit the Traitor back into the Mafia group. This would turn the Traitor into a Goon. Before being recruited, the Traitor will appear innocent to sane cop investigations. The night of recruiting and after recruiting, the Traitor will appear guilty to sane cop investigations, just like the Goons.

Nightkills: Each night any member may PM a kill target. The member carrying out the kill must also be specified.

Communication: Each member has the ability to communicate to the group during the Pregame Phase and nights. Reading and posting on the group Quicktopic thread is recommended due to convenience and the ability for me to post updates for your Mafia group. Mafia members in prison cannot communicate/post with other members but can still read the Quicktopic thread. I trust that you know the Honor System.[/url]

Bulletproof Vest: Each night any group member may PM me to specify which group member wears the BV to be immune to all kill attempts. If nothing is submitted, I will assume the Godfather wears the BV.

Poison Gas Kit: One-shot. Any member may PM me to specify sending one member during the current night to prison to stealthily install poison gas bombs. The next night the gas will leak and have a 60% chance of killing each player in prison that night. So if Players A, B, C, D are in prison, I will roll 4 10-sided dice to determine who is killed by the poison gas. The prison investigations would not take place during that night. The kit also includes prison security guard uniforms, so the sent member can safely get in and out of prison without repercussions.

Prisoner Capture Kit: One-shot. Any member may PM me to activate this during any night. This brainwashes the police chief and will have him prematurely capture 1, 2, or 3 players of your group's choice for the next day. If used, next day the town will decide who to pair up with the 1, 2, or 3 players. For example, if X and Y are captured prematurely Day 2, town first decides who to send to prison along with X, then who to send to prison along with Y.

Interrogation Confusion Kit: One-shot. Any member may PM me to activate this during any night. If activated, all prison interrogations that night will yield answers opposite to what are actually said. So a no-no pair yields yes-yes, yes-no yields no-yes, etc.

You also know many Safe Claims (Only safe in that these roles are either not in the game or very common. Whether they are safe in terms of being believable is up to your judgment):
Protown Prison Cop: Can only go to a prisoner’s house to investigate alignment
Protown Masons: Confirmed or unconfirmed alignments
Protown Miller: Knows miller status
Protown Vanilla Townie
Protown Post-Restricted Townie: any post restriction

You win with your Mafia group when group members constitute at least 50% of all players alive and it is impossible to not maintain the 50% threshold.

You are the
Mafia Traitor
. The Mafia group knows the Traitor is in this game, but does not know that it is you. You know everything about your Mafia group, specified in the Mafia group PM below. During any night, you may be recruited back into the Mafia group. This would turn you into a Goon and you would have all the Mafia group abilities. @Mora: I admit there was a very small chance the game could have not ended a Mafia Win. But given the fact that an endgame filled with various PD scenarios is already hard to resolve, I considered the Mafia win % to be large enough to satisfy the win condition.

@complaints about Mafia being overpowered:
I think the setup is pretty balanced. One fundamental aspect about this PD game is that
most of the time, it is a bad thing to go to prison
. I even dropped the hint "The most frequent fate of prisoners was the desired result: death" in the opening flavor post.

So the more players are sent to prison each night, more bad things will happen to those prisoners. The town mainly lost this game because they thought it would be good to send in the max players to gain positive powers. That's where the Mafia powers comes in to balance that town strategy. Better strategies for the town would include either sending as many scummy players as possible or sending only 1 pair of players each day to gain powers.

Also there were some good town powers that didn't realize their full potentials such as freeko's avenger and doctor no/CW's tracker/implanter pair. This combined with Mafia strategizing and playing well to realize the full potential of their powers, it's no surprise the Mafia won.
The end justifies the means.

@Mora: when I said "there could be exceptions", I was revealing enough to answer your question but give you too much. Actual game mechanics would not allow scum in prison to kill others in prison.
The end justifies the means.
