so, my out-of-the-fridge-overnight scumcase of vp baltar:

the last two games the two of us have played together are mini normal 2195 and mini normal 2207. for the purposes of this post, all you need to know about 2195 is that i was scum, baltar was town, and his read on me was... not very correct.

in 2207, we were both town. however, due to the game taking place some two weeks after 2195, it took us a while to figure that out. somewhat early on in the game, this sequence between baltar and luca took place: (bolded and underlined the currently relevant parts)

all of these are showing a healthy dose of paranoia of me. most of his play around me that game, especially early, was careful. he wasn't letting me pick up easy townreads, because he knew how much damage scum!me can do when i'm being townread.

compare these quotes to this game? it's night and day. there is NO paranoia, there is zero caution, he's calling me town for most flimsy reasoning of gut and vibes, he doesn't concern himself at all that the vast majority of the game is townreading me for potentially bad reasons. he's vibing. this is why i asked him to elaborate on his townread of me. without actually solid reasons, it just... felt like pocketing.

however, if he truly didn't remember that i was scum in 2195, and wasn't thinking of that game at all, then i'm not sure just how much of this scumcase is valid. typing it out, i do like it again, but ehhh.

as for the tinfoil of lying about not remembering a game that i mentioned in 603: if he realized that he's "forgotten" to show paranoia of me, and realized that i know he should be showing paranoia of me, then "haha i just didn't remember that one game where you had a good scum performance!" is a way to get out of being caught on the basis of not showing paranoia.

also, unrelated to the above, 483 and 489 are disgusting, but i have to run through some meta checks to see if they're scum!indicative. those meta checks require reading through a few isos to see if my memory of games that took place a year and a half ago is correct. that will have to wait, as that is not something i feel like doing on a friday night.

to answer your question, i wanted to see whether i was right on 483 and 489 being tonally scum-indicative. because i thought i had seen him use that tone before, but i couldn't remember it being *that* vile (threatening? idk words difficult) when he was town. so i read through a part of vp's iso from 2157, found 2-3 posts that were tonally similarish enough, but not quite. and since that is the only scumgame of vp's that i'd played in, and i didn't find it there, that then means that i'd probably seen it in a towngame. but verifying that would take even more time, which i haven't done because i'm not sure i currently care enough to do it. but yes i was obviously disappointed that i didn't find the evidence to support my theory. i dislike beign wrong. why is that scummy.

@Gamma: reading A50 is an art form. I could potentially write pages about how I go about doing so. When I have a lockdown on him (which I’m not quite at, but we’re getting close) you’d be better served trying to eliminate me than him, such is my accuracy. I cannot always lock town town him or figure out scum him, but when I’m sure you can take it to the bank.

Tl;dr I know him well enough to be able to distinguish the difference between his genuine tinfoils and his fake ones, as well as read into the intent of his 5D chess gambles. There is a slight chance he’s trying to manipulate me specifically here, but doing so this early when it’s not at all guaranteed I actually catch scum him is asking for trouble.

As far as what he’s actually doing? He’s dropping specific tells that make him look like he’s a pr in a way that is likely to draw pr and scum attention. When confronted with tacit protection from me he’s ducking the thread in a way that would make most people reconsider their townread on him, but which is further likely to draw unwanted from scum attention from PRs. He explicitly does not care about that, and that’s plus town specifically in his case. Note: I don’t think this makes him a PR, necessarily, as A50 loves playing the wifom game with intentionally dropped or tells, and with me in the game he expects me to take his wifom game and make it explicit to further thicken the smokescreen he’s putting in front of the other town prs.

Also, his gotcha moment on you followed by sitting back and looking to see what happened is pretty bog standard for a town A50 looking to leverage one solid read into more solid reads.

VP on the other hand has just been playing a very solid game. I can see his reasoning in most cases, and everything he does pings as trying to drive forward a game state with high readability. He’s not afraid of stepping on toes, making unpopular stances, or being seen as going after lhf. His one weird thought moment was accusing you of being less engaging with the thread, but he didn’t do so in a way that put any pressure on you while he did try to pressure Dunn with it and your response to it pretty much confirmed to me it wasn’t him trying to throw weak shade at a partner for distance.

I am not this good at reading A50 but I agree with the general sentiments on both VP and him

Fun and Games (skitter30 & PookyTheMagicalBear) - Iso is full of hard questioning and solid stances. This isn't a slot that I'd expect to catch as scum on Day 1. There is absolutely no reason for me not to town read them.

Datisi - I can follow a very detailed thought process. If you're scum, you should take up an acting career. I'm not ruling it out because it's Day 1 and I don't have a single town read I'd bet real money on but you're my strongest town read and I'm pretty confident in it.

With that said what do you make of Gamma the last few pages? It's pretty much the big thing that's happened since you've been away and I don't recall you talking much about Gamma one way or the other.

he has, he modded a jk9++ open game back in february. in which i was constantly losing my shit, lurking, and trying to skate by by doing the absolute minimum possible. it's very much not a game that leaves an impression of "good at scum"

Really? I had the opposite reaction. Like Pooky was definitely being aggressive, but Gamma was pushing pretty poorly formed responses and then doubling down on them when pooky shot them through.
