Chapter One: Flea Market
« on: September 03, 2021, 08:30:07 am »
You don't give a 500 dollar tip to the housekeeper! That's inappropriate! That's inexcusable! That, I don't forgive! What were you thinking? What were you thinking?

As a director, I have a very specific cinematographic vision, and if there's one thing I love, it's the overhead shot.  Even more, I'm very partial to overhead shots featuring a tableau of objects.  Here, take a look:

This is clearly good stuff, but the only thing is, if we're going to make use of some of these shots in our film, we're going to need some good objects to shoot.  I sent a runner down to your local flea markets, and they spotted the following items available for sale:

Dog flu serum - Asking price $7
Binoculars - Asking price $10
Schematics - Asking price $13
Swiss army knife - Asking price $15
Heist planning notebook - Asking price $20
Team Zissou rings (set of two) - Asking price $21

Best part is, there was one of those items for sale at both markets, so one of you on each tribe can buy 'em if you want 'em.

Here's what I'm going to do.  I'm going to give each of you $500, and you can post in your confessional how much you're going to spend on each item.  You need to spend at least the asking price, but you could always spend more if you think there's going to be a bidding war.

The runners will take that money down to your local market and see if it's enough to buy the item for you.  Only thing is, we don't actually pay these runners, so I've told them they can keep whatever they're given, even if it doesn't end up getting spent.  If multiple people place the same top bid, well, we'll resolve that tie by generously letting the runners keep both players' money.  This means the next highest bid will take the item.

There's one other thing.  I really want to build an aquarium down by the baseball field to impress someone, and maybe we can even feature it in our movie.  Any funds not bid on flea market objects will automatically be funneled toward this project.  Whichever tribe contributes the most toward the aquarium will receive immunity.  If that's somehow a tie, I'll just ask those runners to flip one of those coins of theirs.

Winners of items and individual contributions to the aquarium will not be revealed.

@mods - are we allowed to discuss this challenge with our tribemates? Also are we allowed to make a thread in our confessionals for challenges and post our bids in there?

Ok, also are we allowed to make a separate thread for challenge submission and post it in there, or does it have to be in the confessional?

You're submitting individually in your confessional, but you're free to make a thread to discuss the challenge if you wish!

Yea, I'm asking if in our confessional we have to submit it in the confessional thread, or if we can make a thread called "challenge submissions" or something to that effect, and submit it in there

To further clarify, all money bid on items is lost, whether win, lose, or draw. Only money not bid goes to the aquarium and immunity.

Yes, the one and only thing we will share is each tribe's total contribution, which we will reveal while naming the winning tribe.

Can items be given away to other people after they are won?

@mods can you spend $0 for items if you don't want the items, or must you spend the minimum?

You don’t *have to* bid on anything but you can’t win your bid without bidding the minimum amount.

It only counts if it’s also in your confessional submit threads!

Just to further clarify this...we did not create confessional submit threads for every player. You can create one for yourself if you wish or use any system you wish, but as long as your challenge submissions are in your confessional, they will be accepted.

One additional clarification: if you fail to submit for this challenge, all of your $500 will be contributed to the aquarium. But please let us know if you're doing that ahead of time anyway so that we can get you speedy results at deadline!

All items have been distributed! If you have nothing in your confessional, you've won nothing in this auction.
