Challenge 10: Interpol Tax
« on: July 19, 2020, 05:03:31 pm »

Gather round, detectives.  Today we are going to be fighting the most vile crime in society: international tax fraud.  The boys at Interpol have asked us to help them with their task force taking down a multi-national gang of dastardly tax evaders.  The arrests have all been made, but there is a LOT of piles of cash in their hideout that needs to get processed into evidence.

How much cash are we talking here? Uh, that's actually kind of why you're here.

When the challenge starts, you will be given a form that lists a whole bunch of international currencies and quantities.  In the first box, please input the currency that you use in everyday life. For example, Joss Carter would type "US Dollars", Sherlock Holmes would type "British Pounds", and Holly Short would say "Australian Dollars".  This will be your "base currency" for the entire challenge.

You will then be given some piles of money in foreign currencies. You must convert that money into your own base currency.  For example, if one pile of money is " £30 (British Pounds)", then I (Joss Carter) might guess "$32". (This is purposely a wrong answer)

When you have submitted your answers, we will calculate the difference between what you estimated and what the actual correct answer was. You will be given 20 countries to convert and you'll have 1 bonus question. Only your top 10 countries will count for scoring, the tribe with the best average difference will win immunity.

The top 2 best scorers in the bonus question from each tribe will each earn a tiger clue.

All exchange rates are accurate as of Saturday 18th of July. You may NOT use outside resources. You may use a calculator though. You may give as precise or imprecise of an answer as you want.

Well that was a lot of money to sort through. Thankfully we actually had a genius on board who knew the exact conversion rates and he has told us how close you guys were.

For full details on how we worked out these results check it out here:
Spoiler
1) we took your answers and converted it back to the questions currency using the correct currency table here: https://www.xe.com/currencytables/?from=USD&date=2020-07-18
e.g from the challenge post we would've converted Joss's $32 into £, giving us £25.28
2) Take the difference between your converted answer and the question
e.g joss would've had a difference of £4.72
3) Convert all differences into a central base currency, we used USD for it
e.g joss's converted difference would be $5.98
4) Sum up your top 10 questions to find an overall difference
[close]

So with that said what are the scores, remember, you want the lowest difference to win here...

Strike Team:
Judy: 73001
Jake: 52206
Nick: 32549
Lucifer: 31506
Lennie: 18322

Total difference of: 207585

Narcotics:
Grouch: 100594
Pikachu: 15289
Leon: 14833
Scruff: 7711
Rust: 4520

Total difference of: 142946

Narcotics Win Immunity

Any clues won from the bonus question will be handed out in your confessionals
