A major lesson here is that I need to take into account the position and perspective of potential allies beyond their utility to my own plans. At merge, I imagined you untethered and grasping for an alliance, rather than a mover in your own right. That doesn’t make objective sense. Fog of war, tunnel-vision, call it what you will.

Yeah, but a betrayed juror can be won over at FTC and might respect the move, a betrayed living player holds a grudge. We figured you were more likely to hold a player-grudge.
Besides, Lucifer was a known quantity. I can't speak for the others, but I didn't know where you were going to land in most votes.
As for Poirot, he was simply at a point where he had to choose allies. Things were about to break one way or the other, and he chose the alliances which looked more stable.

And on the score of miscommunications between you and I, if you’d made that clear, we could have had an easy and firm majority with the 1227 crew. As it was, I thought Rust was a temporary ally of passing importance. Might’ve been different.

To echo the other answers here, challenge wins are the only true guarantee.

To consider anyone a safe jury vote is the most dangerous assumption you can make. This game will be decided at the Final Tribal Council.
3) What most worries you about the current game state?
There are no guarantees. The less people there are, the greater the opportunity for things to be flipped around from one round to the next.
I'm liking Rust more and more, and he'd be a contender if he manages to clear the board that way.
