Title: Welcome to your confessional!
Post by: Holly Short on January 01, 2020, 01:47:45 am
Oh my! Who do we have here? A new officer joining the ranks?

Well thank the fairy heavens for that! The last new recruit we had was Sherly and he’s still bumbling about thinking of himself as a consulting detective. Pff!

Anyway, where was I? Oh yes!

Welcome! We’re excited to have you here.

This is your confessional, where you can post whatever you want. Your thoughts, your ideas, your deepest, darkest feelings! No evidence can be used against you here.

Please make a post in this thread to confirm that you’re still up for the task of joining the force. I wish you the best of luck!

What up Nick? How are you enjoying the game so far? Any strategies you have in mind?
How did you think the first challenge went?

I'm just gonna use that signature Wilde charm on everyone

Game has been fun, I enjoyed that challenge! But I don't really have a strategy yet beyond charming the pants off'f anyone who'll let me. Hopefully by this time tomorrow I'll have a better lay of the land and can start planning properly.

First challenge went... okay. I feel like it could've been a lot faster, but we still worked together well and that was important for morale and for giving things to talk about. I guess we'll see how well it compares to the others in a couple days :D

I, for one, love good memes. Please keep up the good work, Officer!

Let me know if any of your tribemates have fallen victim to your charm.

Is there really any question? I'm not sure Carrots would let me choose anyone else :P

If it had to be someone on my tribe, I'd still be far too unsure to pick. Everything seems a little more quiet than usual; I'm hoping that's just cause everyone's taking the extended phase a bit slow. Chan likes my gifs so that's a big plus in my eyes :D

Initial Reconnaissance Report
(https://media.tenor.com/images/852076f90547ff76842a627c8943cd8a/tenor.gif)
Filed by Nick Wilde, ZPD

Suspect A - Kate Macer
(https://i.imgur.com/rjf1Jao.png)

Suspect appears at first inspection to be something of a traditional gamebot. Initial recon suggests that this player will be a late premerge or early merge boot; a player good enough on the social front to not be immediately targeted, but who will not have the friendships necessary to prevent being an easy boot after a swap or a merge.
Further Action - Buddy up, but prepare to evac if the situation worsens. Definitely cannot be a longterm option.

Suspect B - Detective Pikachu
(https://i.imgur.com/dugazaJ.png)

This little critter appears cute and harmless, but it's uncertain that their cuteness will translate to survival. Doesn't appear to be great on the social front and feels like an early boot, but this is one day's impressions and could change. Could be a good longterm option if he can survive the earlygame, but that seems unlikely.
Further Action - Continue to stay in good books but don't press for suspect to stay if the easy vote settles on him

Suspect C - Penelope Garcia
(https://i.imgur.com/72BxWqU.png)

Appears to be the most traditionally social player on the tribe, although this is based on not many messages. Seems like the tribe member most likely to go the distance, along with Rust. Unlikely to come under any real pressure anytime soon.
Further Action - Keep a very close eye on, try to form some kind of alliance with but be constantly aware that suspect will have plenty of other options.

Suspect D - Rust Cohle
(https://i.imgur.com/NWBzHpq.png)

Suspect seems like a well-balanced mix of social and strategic, and is likely the strongest player on the tribe. Appears to underestimate how likeable they are. Difficult to read how trustworthy they may be, but initial feeling is that they could make for a great partner. Likely to go the distance either way.
Further Action - Push conversation towards game ASAP. Scout out possibility of becoming suspect's #1.

Suspect E - Chase
(https://i.imgur.com/Fd0e0mh.png)

Solid social player at first look, although carries a little awkwardness in conversation. Difficult to read how active suspect is on the game front. Potential ally material, but more needs to be found out about suspect's relationships with the other players.
Further Action - Try to push conversation towards feelings on other players. On the social front, continue charm offensive.

Suspect F - Chan Ka-Kui
(https://i.imgur.com/iHIBRXu.png)

Officer personally likes this suspect the most thus far. Potential social threat but in a very subtle way; suspect is extremely likeable without saying a whole lot. Unclear how strategically minded he is, but unlikely to come under any pressure early.
Further Action - Continue to buddy up, try to talk game and figure out relationships. Figure out if suspect is being relatively quiet with other players also.

Your recon report gives you strong merits. You're in line for a promotion!

How would you rank your favorability with your tribemates and what is your strategy to bring them to your side?
Title: Re: Welcome to your confessional!
Post by: Nick Wilde on June 28, 2020, 02:50:32 pm
I think I am going to have to update that Recon report a lot; I've finally gotten to game talk with a bunch of the players and am re-evaluating things quite a lot. The main thing is that Kate appears to be an immediate target rather than a later one - nobody really seems to want to hide behind a gamebot - and Pikachu is being a lot more social with other players than he was being with me, so he's very unlikely to be an early boot.

It seems that Rust has charmed basically everyone already and I'm not sure a partnership with him would be on particularly even footing, so I'm starting to look a lot more seriously at partnering with Chan instead. We've had a great conversation in my eyes and he seems to have a much lower profile, and not be quite as universally adored.

As for where I am favourability-wise, I'd say most of them have me somewhere in the middle of the pack, which is exactly where I want to be. Rust actually outright told me I was in the 'goldilocks zone' of not being so sociable that I'm a threat, but being good to talk to, which was... a bit of a backhanded compliment but hey, it's what I'm going for and I'm glad he's being honest about not seeing me as the most social out there :D For now I'm just going to try to direct things towards game talk with every player while keeping up some background small talk, make them feel like they can trust me due to intel sharing. And I'm probably just going to push the narrative of this easy vote on Kate, since it keeps the tribe strong and everyone will likely agree.

how do you maintain a high level of charm at all times?
Title: Re: Welcome to your confessional!
Post by: Nick Wilde on June 30, 2020, 10:03:36 am
On the game talk front, it's pretty much the normal stuff - who's good to talk to, who isn't, likes and dislikes, who you wouldn't vote for etc. Just much, much slower than your average game - everyone seems to be taking messaging super slow this game so I'm matching that and sending people about three messages a day on average. Gotta blend in and go undercover

this is where I would post the gif of that wolf cop putting the sheep outfit on in Zootopia but fortunately for you I can't find one so you get to see my handsome face again instead

And the secret to maintaining a high level of charm is to talk about things they're interested in and continuously post great gifs. Oh and having a smooth sexy voice and natural good looks help a lot too ;)

scuse me ZPD officer coming through to give more reports

Chan has created a group chat with myself, Rust and Chase which was a bit out of left field for me; he didn't mention it in advance at all. After further enquiries it appears to have been a result of Rust pushing him to do it. Regardless, it's fine by me - that seems like a pretty solid alliance and I think I'm one of the less threatening players in there (behind both Rust and Chase - Rust is a huge gamebot with social skills and Chase is a huge socialbot with game skills) so lots of threat to hide behind if this group sticks.

Pikachu mentioned that Kate had been discussing alliances, which was a surprise to me as she has only been talking history podcasts with me. So I suspect there's something going on there, probably with Kate/Penelope/Pikachu but I'm unsure whether Penelope/Pikachu are in on it. I would not be surprised to learn that Rust has a hand in it too if that's the case, but even if so I doubt it's his primary alliance. Kate's name is still being thrown around as an easy boot and I suspect that'll be the way things go in order to keep tribe unity if we do go to a tribal.

Penelope has given me almost nothing, which is worrying. I think I have good relationships with every other player here, but not to the point that I'm anyone's #1. Which is a weird feeling for me, because my playstyle is usually find a buddy to go the distance with as early as possible, but I think I'm content changing things up a little on that front and trying to stay a bit detached and under the radar. Can't be undercover unless you keep a low profile!

Part 2

These are big scary threatening players
Rust (transparently so, is going to be the big scary threat that nobody will ever let get to the end because of how obvious his win would be)
Chase (socially good might be able to keep a low profile, which makes him more scary)
Penelope (with other people, hasn't put in much effort with me)
Pikachu (he's like the coolest guy he has a lego charizard)

These are people who aren't scary at all
Chan (mostly harmless)
Kate (probably already dead)

Thank you! Definitely worth killing my wrist for :P

It hasn't changed a lot in terms of who I like and who I dislike, but I can be more precise on the exact ordering in the likes/dislikes:

The best person on the tribe
Nick Wilde
-
-
Chase
Pikachu
-
Chan
Rust
-
-
----------bad line of dislikingness, people under here are officially disliked------------
Penelope
-
-
Kate
The worst person on the tribe

To be fair to Kate, she's not really disliked as such (at least by me). I think some section of my brain has gone 'ah well she's kinda difficult to talk to and she's the easiest vote so she must be at the bottom of my rankings' but she's making an effort to regularly talk, which is better than Penelope (and actually better than me at the moment too).

Chase and Pikachu are just fun to talk to and are my favourite people right now. Chan I had a fun conversation with and I think connected the most with off the bat, but he's abandoned normal press at least with me since setting up this group chat, which has dropped him a little in the rankings.

I'm still convinced Penelope will be a social threat if/when she properly shows up.

No qualms to your opinions, I just wanted to see where your head is at, and to see whom you would be interested in looking at for allies or enemies. In addition, who knows how the wind blows in the future, so seeing where you are here and where you are at the final tribal council is very interesting.

Since you're immune, have you implemented any strategies to solidify your social status?
Title: Re: Welcome to your confessional!
Post by: Nick Wilde on July 02, 2020, 02:45:34 pm
Pikachu mentioned that he liked Penelope, so I pitched him on an alliance of five (myself, him, Chase, Rust, Penelope) while also mentioning that my experience with Penelope hadn't been amazing. He suggested making it just the four (minus Penelope) which I was very fine with, then he went and pitched it to the others. Although I think he pitched it as my idea, and I pitched it as his idea, so that's a bit of an issue and something I should've probably just been straightforward with.

Regardless, if it sticks, I'm in a good spot with two overlapping alliances that are unlikely to target each other. But plan #1 is just not to lose immunity, so I never have to find out whether those people are serious about those alliances or not :D I imagine they will be if it comes to a swap.
Title: Re: Welcome to your confessional!
Post by: Nick Wilde on July 02, 2020, 02:49:23 pm
I think I'm still solidly middle of the pack when it comes to threat level and that's where I want to stay. I've been fairly inactive, which I hope doesn't come back to bite me, but it's kind of necessary because my conversation goto is game talk and when I talk game I tend to start becoming a fairly obvious threat.

Speaking of which, I realise I missed Rust out of my general overview. He's gone full gamebot and is only talking game now. Definitely my kind of guy and the kind of shield I want to take along with me (he's even talking about using Chan as a shield at a swap, which is so bold and gamebotty I love it), but I don't feel the same kind of friendliness with him as with Pika/Chase.

Anyways, as long as I keep my head down a bit I should be fine. That's my strategy for now!

Zero confidence whatsoever. Absolutely zero. I have no clue what these people will label themselves and I'm wishing I'd sat this one out. Touchy Subjects is historically my absolute worst challenge; I've managed to come in last behind people who were actively throwing when I was trying before.

Woah. I got five points! That was five more than I was expecting. And safety again.

It's just great to be able to kick back and relax like, all of the time. I've never been on a tribe like this. All that worrying that usually happens is just replaced with 'hey I wonder what this person would like to talk about today'.

In the meantime, I feel like I've connected with Chase and Pikachu more and I managed to find a subject that coaxed Chan back out of his shell (fighting games/valorant/league of legends). Life's good yo.

Congratulations on immunity - can you explain your challenge answers and how you matched up people's personalities? If you can also come up with a humorous short story, I will give you spectator points.
Title: Re: Welcome to your confessional!
Post by: Nick Wilde on July 06, 2020, 04:31:26 am
No short story I'm afraid; I'll have to earn the spec points some other way. But here's my thought process:

Nick the character is charismatic, I shoot people gifs, they probably think I am too. I told two people slightly different things on the alliance front (Pikachu saying that the alliance was my idea, me saying it was his) so Devious fits, and Nick the character is that at times too. I beasted the challenge so I make the most sense as the Muscle.

Pikachu sent me a picture of his lego and sent that to other people too, so Artistic fits.

Rust is a force to behold when it comes to game and the most obvious strategist on the tribe, and I think he knows that. Courageous, Bossy, Commissioned the heist works best with that in mind.

Kate is something of a gamebot and clearly the least social on the tribe, and all the other pluses are social, so Reliable is the only one that fits. She seems like she'd be quick to anger so bad-tempered also fits there. Out of everyone on the tribe, she's also the most obviously going to put The Brains as her role, because she's a lot more strategy focused than social focused.

Affectionate and Joyful were what I had left in the first column. Chase is good on the game front, Penelope is exclusively social, so Affectionate seemed to fit her better and Joyful him. The Inside Man also works best for a purely social player because that's the person who has to be talking to people.

I pretty much randomised the remaining options, because there wasn't anything that massively stood out to me on any of them. I'm glad we scored as high as we did.

Nick's Likeability Ranking, BAU Edition
Now with added descriptions so this post answers Heiji's questions

Best Person
Nick Wilde
-
-
Scruff McGruff (very much my kind of player, happy to write long, infrequent messages which is my preferred style, and pretty open on the game talk front)
Detective Pikachu (best of my old tribe, I feel pretty close to him despite us not talking a ton)
-
Jake Peralta (Extremely friendly and charismatic, almost to the point where I don't trust it, but for now I'm trusting it)
-
-
Rust Cohle (Has gone full gamebot at this point and keeping him alive might be difficult)
Lucifer (Might go up - has started talking a whole lot more since I mentioned I liked Pika a lot; those two are already quite tight and it's given me an inroad here)
-
--------Line of Meh, players under this point are officially in that Meh region of I don't like them but I don't dislike them either--------
Grouch Cop (Decent socially, but hasn't talked any game at all and their messages feel a bit like they're going through a checklist of things to mention)
-
-
-
Penelope (Her challenge enthusiasm and everything she did has raised her a bit on this, but she's still barely messaging me)
--------Line of Dislike, players under this point are people I actively dislike-----------
-
-
Quentin Lance (Has sent me all of two messages and both were only a couple lines long)
-
Worst Person

How do you feel about past tribal connections since you didn't go to tribal there?

In a sense, it's a bad thing because I never got to test the bonds I made. But - I don't think it would have massively tested the bonds anyway, outside of whether or not people would be swayed to go Kate over Chan or not. The fact that we still have 7 intact is probably a good thing, because I don't think anyone from the old tribe actively dislikes me and having more people alive who you've met is important going forward.

The swap has definitely reinforced some of the connections as people are forced to start upping their game a little bit and talking game more. I think my connection with Pikachu has benefitted the most from this, but the Rust connection has been good also just because he's gone full gamebot and is looking at his old alliances as locked in place (very good for me since I'm in a couple of them). Penelope is still distant, which is a problem - we'll have to see how that goes.

Other people seeing our tribe as a threat is potentially going to be an issue but as long as it's not me they focus on, that's fine. Scruff has told me they have worries about the potential 4-4 situation if Quentin goes - the fact they're bringing that to me is a huge positive.

Nick's Threat Ranking

Most Threatening
Jake Peralta (seriously, this guy is the goddest of social gods)
-
-
-
-
-
Grouch Cop (would be lower, but I think their style may vibe with other people a lot more than with me)
Scruff McGruff (would be higher, but I think their style might not vibe with other people as much as it does with me)
-
-
Detective Pikachu (this is about the level of threatening I'm comfortable going to the end with)
Lucifer (slow going but good socially when he gets going)
-
Penelope (still isn't talking enough)
-
-
Rust (has become basically nothing in terms of threat level because he's so focused on game that he's lost his social)
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
Quentin (doesn't talk)
Least Threatening

What's the most interesting/funniest thing that your new tribemates have sent you?

For the most part it hasn't actually been all that interesting? Or funny for that matter. It's mostly just your standard bonding exercises. Scruff did come forward and tell me there had been discussions about needing to eliminate a 12th member first, which nobody else did - I suspected as much but it's interesting to learn that he trusts me enough to do that.

The funniest would probably be my discussion with Jake about whether or not he'd overlook a hypothetical honest pawpsicle businessman hypothetically incorrectly filing his hypthetical taxes.

So, fun events last night...

I try to do this application form and manage to screw up massively. Then I come up with what I think is the right answer and shoot it to Pikachu. Pikachu *claims* it's wrong but I don't see where the mistake is, so it's possible he got the idol and is hiding it from me? But I need to check over my answers again.
5 minutes after I send the message to Pika, Rust messages me to tell me about the idol clue and that he's failed on it. I message him back saying I just failed on it too and since he can't get it, we should message Pika. Hopefully I managed to avoid him seeing that I wanted Pika to get it more than I wanted him to get it.

And now (if Pika is telling the truth) I'm not sure who to tip off. Maybe Lucifer? My other top allies (Scruff and Jake) are also huge threats and I don't really want either having an idol on top of that. Luci with an idol I can manage. But I worry that I've spent so much time deliberating over it that it's likely already gone.

I feel confident though if Kate does go here, I think we might have to have a serious discussion on either possibly throwing the challenge to save Chase or trust Chase enough to be able to get himself out of the situation that he is in. That's just a possible thought I've had in my mind.

Part of me wants to go

Like, Chase is a great player socially and can probably maneuver through this without our help. Kate and Chan going doesn't necessarily indicate a pagong on that side; they were the obvious choices from a tribe unity standpoint regardless.

But.

The problem is the probably. There's a chance that the best thing for their tribe unity would be just to continue with that pagong, and do we want to take that risk? Chase going would be a very bad thing, not just because of how much of the 12th would have been wiped out, but also because he's someone I feel like I was extremely close to and like a lot.

Thing is, I'm fairly confident I wouldn't go home if we went to TC here, nor would anyone I would want to stay. The real question is, is it worth the difference in tribe numbers (9-6 if we don't throw vs 8-7 if we do; that's huge!) to do this, considering Chase might have made better friends on the other side? Making moves to try to help out in a situation you know nothing about is dangerous.

Argh.

^This is me looking at my PMs with Pikachu right now. Because we just made a pact to throw this challenge to ensure that Chase stays safe.

He's going to 'have computer problems' doing the puzzle, which is absolutely not obvious at all and definitely won't raise any eyebrows >.>

I agreed to throw this part of the challenge to make his poor performance more believeable, but I don't know how to do that without it being obvious that I'm throwing. And I don't think my own performance will have a huge impact anyway. It's... difficult.

I'm still a little confused about why I agreed to this. Chase can *probably* handle it himself, he's a good enough player to. But it's still that "probably" that's important. Do I want to risk going into a swap/merge with zero inroads into that other tribe because everyone I knew from there is dead? Absolutely not.

It kinda feels like this moment from Infinity War:
where they agree not to trade lives but then go ahead and throw all the Wakandans under the bus because their lives clearly aren't quite as important. That's what we're doing for Chase right now, with Penelope likely taking the role of the Wakandans. I hope it ends a bit better in our situation.

Welp, I think I may have thrown this challenge by accident this time

This is another reminder of why I don't play mafia (aside from it just generally being the worst)

I just realised I'm that guy who does everything in the welcome thread
I swear I didn't mean it, I just usually wait til the first TC to make a new thread and do everything in welcome until then and uh

y'know what I'm just going to do that. Maybe I don't make another thread til merge and welcome thread ends up with all my premerge confs. That would be glorious.

No wonder y'all have stopped asking me any questions though, what can you ask the eternally immune guy? I'm literally god. Or at least, Penelope is literally god and I get to pretend to be one by dint of being with her all the time.

HITCHCOCK: Thank you so much for saving Mable.
SCULLY: Mable is what he calls his favorite toilet seat.  Thank you so much for rescuing Gloria.
HITCHCOCK: Gloria is Scully's girl.  And by girl I mean toilet seat.  She's in the stall right next door to Mable.
SCULLY: Anyway, sorry you haven't seen us lately.  We've been getting... reacquainted.
HITCHCOCK: We're here now though!  So can you please catch us up on your game so far?  Give us the full debriefing!
SCULLY: Well, maybe not the full debriefing.  Maybe just a few sentences.
HITCHCOCK: Three sentences or less, please!

My friends! It appears you started paying attention to this game at the same time I did.

Long story short:
I attempted to rally the 4 BAUs against the 3 SVUs, voting for Judy (SVU)
Jake (BAU) wanted to go after Lucifer (also BAU) so I tried to continue to push Judy but make allowances for it being Lucifer by making it clear to people that I wouldn't be entirely against voting for him.
I went to sleep for the night and someone tipped off Lucifer that I'd put his name out there. And suddenly it's 4-3 at best, with me going home. Jake and Penelope are allies but I don't get the feeling that Jake at the very least (and probably Penelope too) are so locked into being my friend that they'd risk their games to save me.
So I tried to go to Judy and tell her I was being forced to Tiger her out, but it turned out she already had the tiger. But we had an open discussion about options and she seemed willing to go after Jake or Penelope. I tried to make out that I was this extremely loyal person by standing by Penelope and going after Jake.
Then I talked to Poirot and it was pretty clear he was after a unanimous vote. Lucifer wouldn't talk to me. And Lennie told me my messages were terrible and that it didn't make sense for him to keep me.

So then I made a fake idol and told Jake I was idolling out Lennie, because Jake/Lennie were (I thought) super close and he'd leak it and they'd change the target. But Jake was on board and didn't leak >.>
So then I had to fill in Penelope too because otherwise that looks suspicious and suddenly they're both in for a 6*-1 on me. Which obviously is just going to be a 6-1 on me but I can't tell them that because this fake idol is my last chance.
So then I overact to get the paranoia to set in everywhere in the hope that that will make people split votes, and hopefully *that* will make my team split votes. But now I've got to sign off for a bit for the whole overacting bit. I also can't message anyone on the other side because then they'll know I'm looking for options and that doesn't look like I have an idol.

So yeah I'm going home. But maybe not! Please paranoia god do your work
