Where do you think the state of mafia on mafiascum is going? Do you like that direction? If not, how can we change it? If so, how do you contribute to these growing trends?

Wow, questions piling up fast here...I'll try to answer a few now.
It's fun, and really satisfying when you lynch a scum/avoid getting lynched/manage to convince people who were just crying out for your blood that you are actually town after all.Andycyca wrote: Why play mafia?
Eh. I like it here. Good place to play mafia; better standard of mafia playing then most places I've seen, and better games then most places. Beyond that, it's just a great group of people here; there's really no one on the site that I dislike, which is really amazing considering how most online forums are; even if I somehow got bored of mafia (not that that's likely to happen, lol), I'm sure I'd still hang around. Why mafiascum.net?
Eh. Not a bad place to start.Did you like the previous "standard questions"?
Nope, not offhand, had to google him to find out.Do you know who Bertrand Russell is?
Uhhh...well, the first thing that came into my head was a map of North America with "Mexico" labeled on it, heh. I don't know; my dad took a road trip down there once, but I've never been to Mexico myself. What's the first thing that comes to your head when you hear "Mexico"?
Um...I donno. Warm beaches? What's the thing you associate the most with Mexico?
Hmmm...(looks) Probably Yoko Kurama or Nightson.Who (on the GTKAS queue) would you like to interrogate next week?
Not really into visual arts so much; I'm just not that visual of a person I guess.are you interested in arts?
if so, which art movement specifically?
visual or literary arts?
Heh...you should probably ask someone else.how would you order the following artists in terms of impact on culture?
Tristan Tzara, Marcel Duschamp, Salvador DalÃ, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Edvard MunchI want us to win just for Yos' inevitable rant alone. -CrashTextDummie- Alabaska J

That whole meme started when Mr Stoofer mentioned somewhere (I think in the scummy nominations thread or something) that in mafia discussion threads, he would pretty much just waited for me to answer and then agree with me. He then made the "I agree with Yosarian2" sign, which was quite amusing.hasdgfas wrote:When did people start agreeing with you so much?
Probably 24 mafia. viewtopic.php?t=5508. Man, that game was awesome in all kinds of ways, and probably the most complicated mafia game setup I've ever seen; Pooky, you've got to run another one of those if you get a chance.Best game as scum?
A close second would be PBuG's "Gaian Alliance", viewtopic.php?t=2049&start=0, where I was a SK with no nightkill protection or cop protection and with a disadvantage that sometimes a townie could use me as a cop and I wouldn't get to kill, and I managed to win by basically lynching the entire mafia and killing off the power roles at night. That was a fun and a challanging one, especally since Baby Jesus was town in that game and he was after me for much of that game, even though I defended him day 1.
Hmm. Probably a recent one, Pick your Poison II. viewtopic.php?t=6899&start=0. Fun game; I replaced in day 2, and figured out who 2 of the 3 scum were before the end of the day.Best game as town?
Hmm. These questions are harder, because there's pleanty of bad games to choose from, lol. I'd have to say "Cultural Revolution Mafia"; a member of my mafia scum group (or someone we thought was one) was lynched every single day for the first *seven* days in a row, with me going on day 7. (Note that, while mlaker wasn't in our scum group, we THOUGHT he was and were told that he was, so that's just as bad). The scum somehow won that game anyway, because of absolutly absurd game balance stuff going on, but I played that one pretty badly I think. viewtopic.php?t=3053&start=0&postdays=0 ... highlight=Worst game as scum?
Hmm. Probably Lights Out Mafia II. I helped lead the town to something like 4 mislynches in the first two days (we got 2 lynches a day in that game), and then got lynched on day 3 because of it. I was basically wrong about nearly everything for most of the game. Town ended up losing that game, it was pretty ugly.Worst game as town?
Oh, I've got like half a dozen themes boucing around in the back of my head I'd like to mod (or, you know, play in, if I wasn't designing the game.) Right now, I've got like 5 games pretty much totally laid out, for after the games' I'm modding now are done, and trying to decide which one to run:Dream theme for a mafia game?
Lynch all Lurkers Mafia
2000 Flordia Election Mafia (where everyone just keeps stuffing the ballot box, you can vote again every 48 hours, no unvotes, a bunch of roles that cheat to rig the election somehow, and most votes at end of 2 weeks is lynched.)
White Wolf Mafia (based on Warewolf:The Apocolypse, Vampire: The Masquerade, and similar games)
Cop City (Police convention comes to town; mafia moves in to wipe them all out; chaos insues)
Stereotypical Playing Styles BandwagonMafia (Everyone is given a "steriotypical playing style", and they get an extra vote based on that. Like, "Sheep" would have a second vote he could only cast on a bandwagon that already had 3 other votes on it; "Hamma slamma" would have a second vote he could only use to hammer, "Frustrated newbie" would have a second vote he could only use to vote himself; others would be "random voter", "indecisive", "lurker-hunter", stuff like that. Voting roles public, no connection to alignments.)Last edited by Yosarian2 on Fri Aug 15, 2008 1:25 pm, edited 1 time in total.I want us to win just for Yos' inevitable rant alone. -CrashTextDummie- Yosarian2

Themed, usually. Although I'll always mix in some normal games.Normal or themed?
Variations, I guess.Traditional or variation?
Ummm...in what context? To play mafia with? To hang out with? To talk with in general discussion?Stoofer or Glork?
Either one, really.
Well, probably a little. Anything that gives you another tool, another way to look at the world, I think makes it easier to figure stuff out, and that's true in mafia as much as anything else. I don't think it'd be the key to finding scum, but if it gives you another viewpoint to look at the game with, I'm sure it'd be helpfull.Do you think an understanding of textbook anthropology would assist a mafia player? By how much?
Um...let me just give the names that come first to mind. Glork, Baby Jesus, Internet Stranger, Ether, Coron, Mr Stoofer, Seol, PJ, MeMe, Mr Flay, Dragon Phenox. There's a bunch more, too, but those are just all people that make any maifa game they're in much more interesting, much more challanging (if they're on the other side, heh), and a lot more fun. It'd also be a good mix of people; you don't a game with all, well, "fire" players, or a game with all "earth" players; you need some good logical players and some good intuitive emotional players, some careful players and some agressive players, to make a game of mafia really work well.Automatic "12 players: One Game!!" question goes here.
Well, the site is expanding a lot and very quickly, which means a lot of games that are mostly new players. A lot of them drop out, and some of those games don't work so well because of it, but on the other hand new ideas really bring a lot to the game of mafia, I think.Where do you think the state of mafia on mafiascum is going? Do you like that direction? If not, how can we change it? If so, how do you contribute to these growing trends?
I don't think GD is going in a bad direction, which is not what a lot of people seem to think. But the thing is, when I started here a few years ago, GD was dead. People almost never posted here at all. Then came a period where it was basically just GTKAS threads. Then there was a lot of spam and stupid stuff. I think that GD in, say, the last few months, is probably as good or better as I've ever seen it here.
One problem I do see developing is that now that mafiascum is starting to get bigger, it's starting to get a little clique-y, and occasioanlly even giving the appearence of "hostile factions" or something. Which is totally unneccessary, and I really don't like. Everyone here is awesome; can't we just all get along?

Lots and lots of them. Along with that 11 player list I made, I really think The Status Quo is cool, Quagmire (RIP ), Adel, Mizzy, Elvis (I just remembered when looking back though my games that I was scum with Elvis and we won way back in 2006...man, that rocked ), PEG, Save the Dragons, uh...I could go on and on. Lots of people are really cool.yellowbounder wrote:Which player (on mafiascum) do you think is cool?
I like cults, if they're balanced well. Which is really hard to do, of course.Do you like Cults, or Jesters?
Jesters, meh. Not a great role, but they usually just do something funny and dumb and then get lynched and win and go away, so it's not that disruptive to the game and sometimes entertaining.
Now, survivors, I really don't like.
Uh...why should I be worried about Google? Is it coming for me? (looks around) Are they adding a "Yos's living room cam" feature to Google Maps? Are you worried about Google?
