Invitational 10: 2005-2006. Game over! before 624

Idyllic is a cliché. A catch all. A phrase that describes, not a person, place, or thing, as it is often intended, but rather the authors state of mind and woeful lack of lexicon. To use the term idyllic in fiction is to be redundant, as the words are synonymous. Perfection is unattainable, and the ideal is something which can be found only outside the cave. There is no real world of ultimate forms.

Still, the town was idyllic, in its own way. The streets were cracked, the bars were full, Now A Ranger sat in the stockade. The lawns were unkempt, the town hall was a place of lewd, bawdy arguments as well as quiet, measured discussion. It was everything that one would want out of a place, and at the same time, it was nothing. In short, the tiny village of mafia scum was real. It was idyllic only in its own sense of flawed actualization, and that is what made it desirable. Mafia scum was an attainable dream.

Dreams are funny things. They are also dangerous. This is not so because of any sort of superstition, or set of mystic beliefs, but rather because what is perfect can consume us. Dreams, if left unchecked, can destroy. Even the best of reality can be consumed when compared with the twisted reality of mans fantasy, and the village of mafia scum, while not the worst of reality, was certainly not the best.

Death, like dreams, can be both funny and dangerous. Not the sort of funny which makes you laugh out loud, but the sort of funny that makes you think. This is also precisely why they are dangerous. Thoughts lead to actions, and actions lead to change. When they found yosarian2’s body floating face down in the river, the town thought for so long that they began to laugh, then they began to act. The erected a large platform in the site ideas district of town, and there they constructed the gallows. The monstrosity, the structure, the panopticon which would change every townspersons life over the next few days. As the paranoia settled around them tangibly, like fog, some of them began to crack. Death, certainly, changed everything. Perhaps it was even somebody’s dream that it would do so.

RULESET:
Traditional rules
(originally stolen from bluesoul and modified heavily.):
1.) Have fun. This is not an option.
2.) The mod is always right. Always. Yes, even then. However, if you think there’s some confusion, and it absolutely can’t wait until the end of the game, send me a PM; do not break my game because you died when you didn’t think you should’ve.
3.) Days will continue until one of three things happen: a player is lynched, No Lynch gets a majority of the votes, or a deadline passes.
4.) Voting must be done in the format
Vote: Shea
. Don't worry about unvoting, I don't care.
5.) I will post a vote count every now and then. I am not infallible in this aspect (”But Sir, didn’t you say-- *cough, choke, shudder, die*”) and if you think the vote count is off, say so and I will double check it.
6.) Do NOT quote your role PMs, OR any other form of communication from me unless it is something I have already posted on this thread. This is a modkillable offense.
7.) Do not discuss the game outside of the game thread unless your role allows you to, in which case you may only do it during the specified times with the specified players. This is a modkillable offense.
8.) You’re required to post regularly. I prod after 3 days of inactivity and replace after 2 days of no response to the prod. This rule is flexible if you PM me in advance. Please be mindful, I will not be checking the V/LA thread regularly. That's not my job. If you have posted there, I expect you to send me a PM as well.
9.) Once you’re dead, you’re no longer subject to the previous rule. As a matter of fact, once you’re dead, stop posting. I will permit one simple “bah” post and nothing more. Please make sure that there is absolutely NO game relevant information in this post.
Yes, even “go scum” is game relevant. Don’t do it.

10) In the event of a modkill, it will end the day.

Quirky Shea Rules:

1.)My no-lynch policy (stolen from coron): No lynch only requires there to be enough people voting it that the remaining group could not successfully lynch. For example, with 12 alive, it would be 7 to lynch but only 6 to no lynch because the remaining 6 could not lynch, and with 11 it would be 6 to lynch and 6 to no lynch.
2.) If a deadline passes without a player or No Lynch receiving a majority of the votes, the day will end with NO LYNCH.
3.) All mod communication is banned from the thread. If you have a question, PM me. If you want to request a vote count: PM me. If you want to request a deadline extension: PM me. If you want to communicate with me in any way at all then you MUST PM me, and DO NOT POST IT IN THE THREAD THAT YOU HAVE DONE SO. The mod is in a game of mafia only insofar as he is necessary to run the game. I will not add "modwifom" to one of the elements of the game you have to worry about. Depending on how bad your offense, and how far into the game it is, this is a modkillable offense.
4) In the event of a failure to lynch, the days in this game will last at least 3 weeks. After that time has passed, an additional deadline may be added by the mod, as dictated by game activity. YOU WILL NOT KNOW WHEN THIS DEADLINE IS. Formulate your actions as if there weren’t one, and stay active. As long as there is an active thread, the mod will not impose a deadline.

There may or may not be vanilla players in this game. If there are, their PM looks like this:
From the outskirts of the town, it looks like a nice place to live. Little tufts of grass pop up through the cracks in the cobble stones and are subsequently crushed by your boots. You breath deep of the crisp, smooth mountain air and proceed to the nearest Inn. You’re pretty sure that you’re going to like it here.

You are a Nameless Newbie. You have not been around here long enough to have any sort of special powers, but you do have the power to read, think, and vote. You are a vanilla townie, and you win when all threats to the town are eliminated.

Patrick suggests a bold strategy out of the gate, and one he knows will probably gain traction. I'd be interested to hear his specific motivations.

Sarc voting Ether and then finding safe harbor in the fourth spot on a bandwagon when the
third
spot wasn't at all appealing to him.

PJ following along merrily with unknown quantities elvis and Patrick.

DGB avoiding the MBL wagon after she ruthlessly butchered me in the first 5 minutes of Space Monkeys II.

Bluesoul curiously hesitant to put a second vote on chamber, chooses to OMGUS DGB by proxy instead.

OGML also avoids the MBL wagon and hits Sarc with an appropriate vote.

Elias is the only one of you I'm not familiar with. I'd probably vote for Sarc now, but I don't want a competing wagon... yet.

Not really a strategy, it just seems appealing given our last encounter. Why do you think that it would, "probably gain traction"?

Day One MBL bandwagons traditionally gain traction. Apparently I'm a fun target. Apparently you're unaware of this.

And I don't want a competing bandwagon just yet because I'm interested to see how this one plays out.

Man, it's only the first page and I've already caught scum. It'd be a new record, except I'm pretty sure I always do this. Goddammit I'm awesome.

I'm somewhat surprised Elias hasn't gotten here yet; he's Shea's brother, so I'd, like, expect him to realize the thread's open. I'll format MBL's comment about Sarcastro into a question: what makes a four-person wagon so much more alluring than a three-person wagon?

Well, it's 33% larger, for starters.

I know how tempting it is to protect your scumbuddy, OGML, but sometimes you're just better off bussing. This is one of those times. Even if it weren't, trying to start a bandwagon on the most obviously pro-town player in the game is not a particularly clever approach.

Stifling discussion. She picked on the most boring, dismissable part of your analysis--the first semblance of content in the game--and dismissed it.

That seems duller now that I've gone and typed it out. Why'd you make a big analysis without a single question mark, only to ask for clarification on my vote? Did my answer really surprise you?
