Welcome, one and all, to the 2019 Scummies and Mashies! We, the Scummies Steering Committee, have been working busily behind the scenes to prepare this year's festivities in a timely and tidy manner, and we are eager to share the fruits of our labor with you all. Before we properly begin, we have a few announcements to make.
First, you may notice that the ceremony thread is locked. In previous years, the ceremony and discussion ran concurrently, but we feel that it will be easier to read and enjoy in an unadulterated format. We invite you to discuss developments in this year's story and the Scummies/Mashies in general here. As various awards are given out, new threads will be spun off for those awards, and separate discussion will be open there.
Second, this year we have made a concerted effort to bring the Scummies and the Mashies closer together, combining the festivities into a single event. The SSC has restructured itself to incorporate our brethren from the MishMash more fully, and we look forward to further cooperation.
Third, there have been some mixed messages regarding the schedule for the Scummies. Awards will be given out over the course of the next five days, culminating in a grand finale on Friday, February 21st. The full schedule may be found below.
Fourth, the SSC have decided that in the case of especially close races, Honorable Mentions will be given out. Honorable Mentions will not be entitled to a banner, but have been deemed worthy of special recognition and praise nonetheless. All banners will be given out at the end of the week.
Fifth, at the end of the week, the SSC ask you to stick around and engage with us on the future of the Scummies. We have been discussing some rules changes internally, and are prepared to open the matter to the public at large.
Finally, we would like to profusely thank all of those who gave their time and energy to volunteer with judging and administrative tasks. We could not have put this on without you!
