I hope to be a generous host like those scum meetup hosts before me. My aim is that people coming from overseas for Kiwiesta will only need to pay for their plane ticket to get here
(edit: and back)
, and bring a little spending money. You can make my house your home while you're here. I will transport you if we go places, and feed you. (You might need to buy your own meal a couple times if we eat out...)

From Original Opening Post:
For now I would appreciate those who are interested in Kiwiesta to answer the following:
1) Which of these dates do you prefer for Kiwiesta: January 2009 / April 2009 / October 2009 / January 2010 / April 2010?
(bear in mind January is summer over here.. April is autumn.. October is windy, and plane tickets are likely to be dearest in January..)
2) On a scale of 0% to 100%, how likely do you rate you being able to come?
3) "Kiwiesta" - Lame name?? Is there a better option?
4) Any other questions/comments/ideas/suggestions...?

1) Early April
2) 50%
3) The name's pretty lame, but I'm not really that picky
4) Two years is a long time for me to see in the future. For my teenaged-self anyway. I'd be glad to meet all of these people, though, and since I live in Australia, it'd be cool to have a meeting closer to here.

1. Early January would probably work out best schedule-wise. I have no idea what my schedule will be like then, though.

2. 25% or so. Too many factors right now that I can't predict. But obviously I would love to come, and so I would do my best to find a way.

3. It's a better name than "MoS-Faire" or "starkadium", not as good as "Thespival" or "Thokbam".

4. I'll probably think of something later...

Yeah, it is a long time. I could conceivably do this in 2009 (January / April / October) but thought it might not give enough planning/saving time. I think I'll add 2009 to the date options out of interest.

omanscum (10:57:37 PM): eh
omanscum (10:57:40 PM): thats not AU
GL mole (10:58:00 PM): in 2010
GL mole (10:58:08 PM): that's enough time for kevin to get his war on

1) It would HAVE to be early Jan for me to get there.

2) 30-50% Its all about moneys and Uni. I'd be more likely to go if I knew a few people were.

3) You could think of something better, I'm sure. Lake Tarawere - Tarabash? Then again Kiwiesta rocks except for that IE that annoys me in the middle.

4) If board could be organised I'd be at about 70% to come, if mole, vollkan, or crub are going, 80%, if all three 130%! Seriously though, buying a plane ticket would be a hell of a lot easier than organising ten days worth of board myself. I don't mind pitching in, but whatever you can do would be great.

I keep thinking this is a spanish name.

What about "Running of the Kiwi's"?

I think Kiwiesta is a good name. Looks kinda Polish.

1. Jan 2010 would be the best of those
2. It's enough time for me to save a nice amount of money, my only trouble is univ. schedules and that stuff (And the fact that it's a longer trip than the US). so, right now I'm at ~50% (eagerness at 100%)
3. Kiwiesta's cool for me
4. I'm googling it up, but do you know if there's any specific documentation needed for entering NZ? (like the US visa or similar)? I say it because I live in a pretty slow bureaucracy, which means slower than average paper work and sooner is better in this case.

Also, suggesting to host a meet gives you +1000 AndyPoints.

EDIT: apparently Kiwiesta atendees wouldn't need one (check)

As long as you're from one of these countries:

Put me down as 20%... I'd need to rack up the needed vacation time.

"When" shouldn't be an issue, provided I know enough in advance to get vacation requests set up.

Any time in 2010 would be good. In early 2009 I'll still be in high school, and I don't want to be missing Exciting College Classes for nearly 2 weeks that early into my freshman year, so 2010 is basically the best option.

A % is hard to say - with this much advance notice, it's not really that difficult, but obviously I don't know what I'll be doing in 2010. Something above 50%, I'd say. 60? 75?

Kiwiesta is awesome.

You should get one of us to make some sort of exciting logo to put on a (green) t-shirt.

This is certainly close enough to be a possibility, but I doubt I'd be able to commit for sure until about a month beforehand. That's assuming that I'm allowed back into the country before I pay those taxes that I owe to the IRD.

I think Mafikiwi works a bit better than Kiwiesta, but that's just me.

Either that or "Mafia, Bro!"

1) I'm not sure which one I could pick. The problem is being able to come in the middle of the semester. January/March would probably be the best for me, because the first 12 days or so of January I don't have classes, and I have a week-ish off in March generally. As for the year, 2010 is farther away, so I'm more likely to be able to save up the money by then.

2) 10%, because it depends entirely on the date.

3) The name is fine.

4) This is an awesome idea, but it's probably going to cause problems for anyone who might come from the US and is still in school, because we only have time off in OUR summer, which obviously wouldn't be a good time to be in NZ, necessarily.

June, July, or August 2010.... not in the poll? Bummer. 2010, sometime, then. Early Jan would be best for me.
2) On a scale of 0% to 100%, how likely do you rate you being able to come?
2009: 10%
2010: 50%

(And I'm not likely to have it pulled out from under me like happened with MeMeMeet.)
3) "Kiwiesta" - Lame name?? Is there a better option?
Bleh... I'm certain there is a better name, but I can't come up with it tonight.
4) Any other questions/comments/ideas/suggestions...?
Make it sometime when W isn't in school. ;)

As MoS alluded to, June, July and August is our winter... NZ just isn't much fun in winter, it's cold, grey, wet, but doesn't snow. But if enough people thought the weather didn't matter, I could consider having it in July. Do you really wanna leave your summer and come over here for winter though? And it would likely clash with other meetups at that time.

Heh, I have to do it sometime when
I'm
not in school, too...

From the feedback so far I'm thinking Dec 30th-ish 2009 to January 10th-ish 2010. Ki-newyears-wiesta.

1) It'd be best if it ended before January 4th or 5th. 2010 would be better.

2) 10%, since I'm not sure I'd even want to go to any meet, but it's far enough in the future (and New Zealand is cool enough) that I'll be thinking about it.

3) Kiwiesta works.

I think it's a pretty awesome idea - getting to see NZ and having a scummer meet at the same time.

Me going is gonna be heavily predicated on me having a job though. I plan to get one at the beginning of the next school year, so I won't know whether I'm going anytime soon.

Put me down at 16.18...%.

I'm sure there's a better name than Kiwiesta out there, but that tends to be true for most names. Kiwiesta'll do the job just fine.

I concur with this. kristocker and I would love to go, it's just a matter of finances working out or not. I'd peg at least one of us at anywhere from 10-20%. The idea is awesome!
