Because I might want the option to play a party game with four people (2 joycons) or the option to play something heavier with two full controllers?

Otherwise, I'm looking at having to get 2 more Joycons for party games and then a separate additional pro controller

Nintendo's always been trying to extract extra money on accessories so there's nothing new there, but reading about the whole system in detail it's like they're living on another planet. I'm reading that it's going to launch at $299. You can get PS4s and Xbox Ones for that price. There's just no way this launch is not going to be a disaster.

The sad part is when they announced the next pokemon game we'll all buy one of these anyways.

Well Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is going to be exclusive to it so it's going to be hard not to buy one eventually.

Super Mario Odessey looks pretty good too - a 3D Mario platformer more in the vein of 64 or Galaxy as in that they're fairly open levels.

Okay, sure, Galaxy was rather linear, but as much as I've enjoyed the recent 3D Mario games they've felt too much like "2D Mario but in 3D" to be really uniquely good games. Odessey looks to fix that by being a proper separate 3D platformer again.

At the very least I'm extremely hyped for zelda and mario. If we eventually get a mariomaker for it too and something from the dkc line I'll consider it a good purchase. (I already preordered one)

Though to be fair, I've never had the issue with lack of third party support that some claim. I have a high end computer. If the game isn't an exclusive it's going to almost surely be on PC too. And When looking at exclusives, I've always thought nintendo killed it with their first party support.

I have pretty good hopes for the console in general because it seems like a fairly interesting console design, particularly the controller, although on the other hand I basically cannot see it becoming Nintendo's main handheld because it's a tad too bulky and its battery life is atrocious.

Pretty hyped for the games (particularly Mario) though

Not getting this at launch, partly because I'm 17 and don't exactly have £270 so I'll probably get it bday/christmas, but I wouldn't get it now anyway tbh, because there is literally one interesting game (Zelda) in its launch lineup and I can get it for Wii U for £20 cheaper. Would anyway wait for more games and potentially a decrease in some parts of the prices.

Same here

the only thing is like, the idea of being able to bring certain third party games on the go was a really, really cool idea.

Yeah I pretty much entirely buy Nintendo consoles for the first-party stuff because they make such great games

I mean some aren't interesting, but I can look at them and see if I'm interested or not, and if a game looks good to me it's guaranteed to be polished to hell and back and unlikely to be different from what I expected, if you get what I mean

Third party support for consoles is really useful when you're, say, taking care of a 10 month old baby.

Sorry if it seemed like I was challenging your ability to dislike the system. You can dislike it for whatever reasons you want. Mine situation isn't your situation.

Yeah that basically means I can't play online on this thing at all. I don't have a smartphone.

Edit: I'm sure it's going to be fun for people to figure this out after they pay for online service. It'll be fine for people who have a smartphone, just download the app, but if you don't have a smartphone... well I doubt they're going to bend over backward to give you a refund...

Pretty much. The thing about a lot of the Switch issues is that they are rather situational - this isn't to discredit the views of those affected by the issues (they're still issues), but it doesn't affect me so I'm still going to buy one - for example, the online thing is something I couldn't care less about because I don't think I've ever (besides Kid Icarus Uprising) played a Nintendo game's online multiplayer.

Well I mean beyond the online issues there's the issue of it only have 32gb storage (I still don't understand that decision.) and costing $299 without a game.

If it gets a decent xenoblade bundle, that's probably how I'm going to end up getting it.

I'll maybe consider it after launch, but probably not.

I need someone else to own it and have me play on it before I decide I want one for myself. But that's been the case with all consoles I've previously bought as well.

I'll at the very least be waiting for bundles to come in the future.

We also bought the Wii U a few years back expecting them to actually support it for a reasonable amount of time, and it definitely gives me pause how quickly they've cut support to the Wii U. (4 years in?!) What if the switch bombs? How long will that investment be good for?
