Then design harder games for scum to win. Balance is fairly easy to solve as long as you recognize the limitations of town, which MS as a whole frequently forgets.

Also I assume most mods will impose shorter activity window requirements, so for many players, total activity over a day may not go down much. Keeping in mind also the least active players are less likely to sign up for these. An activity requirement of one post every 24 hours, replacement after another 12 hours or three prods is not unreasonable.

Yes, I absolutely expect mods will do this. I considered adding something about that into the summary, but I feel like many of these details are better left to mods to figure out over time rather than just going off what I think is going to be the best practice.

Almost50 pisskop: Overall, that's a townie slot. Don't ask for specifics because with PK everything can be interpreted either way. It's probably WHEN he says/does things that matter, so it's more of a matter of conception rather than solid reasoning.

The vast majority, given that, y'know. Back until I think it was 2009 or so (give or take a year) we didn't even
have
deadlines.

TLDR: i am neither pro nor anti, blitz games. I have played fast (D48/N24hr) games, I am now playing slow ones here. potayto potahto
To decide, for a start I would need to see what culturally, will actually constitute playing the game. (and what gets Lurker lynched)
The fast games here may bear no similarity to the ones I have played elsewhere.

In post 28, Antihero wrote:guessing town: scum win ratio will be ~ 30:70

That will depend on how much people play....
If the shorter days till have the same number of posts and content per 48-96hr day as your current two week games do....
If the players in this queue treat it as as shorter but more intense commitment, then being scum and responding in real time in thread is *hard*.
if as per a normal length MSgame, then if anytime scum get into trouble in blitz game they can just vanish for 24 hrs... while they get their head around the situation.

RL mafia Example:
I was once scum and accidentally slipped that i had town read on player X, by the implication of what I had just posted.
I bought myself little breathing room by being aggressive in how I broke the TvT, and reaction testing one of the participants. (i wanted strategically to have a town read on that one, player X was an oopsie.)

but then it was my turn under the microscope to explain how I knew it was TvT.... I suddenly needed a genuine way to read a guy (player X) I had IRL previously found reasonably hard to read
and i needed it now. ( I sat very still reached far back inside my head and found a new genuine way to read X's alignment. Then I burned it, by telling him what his tell was. )

So yeah real time *can* be hard for scum. It will depend on the culture of how the game is actually played.
I suspect the play largely won me that game, but it was the most intense/hard 30 mins or so of mafia I ever played.
The hardest 24hrs, happened in a MS 2 week deadline game.

Also as stated balance is fixable. However if we had to push balance to far in favor of town via pwr roles that will mean lynching is closer to random and then it asymptotically approaches a skill free game. Which is fine, if its just social lubrication, but if you are a game player then balance pushed that far kills fun.

My 2c. Spin the wheel and see.

To answer a question that was sent regarding the time frame for UPicks, moderators will have 72 hours after their game has filled for a design and review phase.

If I may, I suggest getting several replacements to sign up for each game. I think there will be a lot of flaking going on, at least that's the case at another site with short deadlines.

I suspect flake rates are similar everywhere. The faster the deadlines, the more active you have to be to avoid flaking. The slower the deadlines, the more time you have to become uninterested/unable to participate.

This seems like a wise precaution, how many do you think we should have prepared?

*supportive thoughts* Won't work for me (mafia barely does any more, I have real life stuff to concentrate on) but I think it's a good concept to have available.
Mostly V/LA at weekends. GTKAS - Tere
I am also really too busy to play mafia to the quality level I prefer. I should spectate. If you see me in more than one game tell me off! Also invite me to cool games to spectate. I will bring cupcakes! <3

Accepting pre-ins for the very first blitz game to be played, btw. It's C9++; keeping it simple for the first one I run to see how it goes.

I'm accepting pre-ins for a 14 player themed Blitz game. Announcement here.
Amid the pressure of great events, a general principle gives no help.

Considering how MS setups are continuing to skew towards townsided, would it be wise to suggest this harder games for scum? :P

As for Blitz games, towns in the past typically benefit from a fast pace for a variety of reasons. I'm curious if it will carry over to games specifically designed for a speed format.

You have said this before, and you are as wrong now as you were then -- which is very wrong.

I don't recall any research being done into setups, just town win rates (which I'm sure is rather low since the current meta favors scum heavily).
