Super Smash Bros
It's a great series.
Sm4sh is obviously the best, but the debate is for 2nd place. Melee or Brawl?
I personally like them both. Melee is more technical and balanced (a competitive game) while Brawl is fun and flashier (a party game). Of course, brawl has a chance to be ruined by meta-knight-fest.

I spent much more time on Brawl, so I prefer it.
I gravitate toward characters that let me poke at the fight from the outskirts of it. So any character with projectiles. Snake is great trolling fun, in that regard. When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! 'I don’t want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these?' Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give you lemons!-

I agree that tripping was unnecessary and unfun, but brawl also has better graphics, more stages, more characters, and better single player than melee.
And while it is less balanced, it is also more customizable with the stage creator.THIS POST IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT.-

Brawl will always be my favorite since I played so much of it in college. I do really like 4 though.
Sakurai did intentionally try to dumb brawl down competitively because Melee was a thing and that is how we ended up with tripping which is universally agreed to be a bad idea. I think its overstated just how bad it was based purely on subjective opinions about the game though.
Brawl's engine was more floaty than any of the others because they were intentionally trying to encourage air combat.
Project M was awful because it was just melee physics in Brawl which
a) just play Melee if you really care, its better than M
b) actually point a covers that just fine.
4 is great so far, although I wish I had more local friends who were really into it.
Random opinions:
Game and Watch went from decent to garbage. He was arguably my best character in Brawl and is no so trash its unreal. I think he is the lightest character in the game if not jiggles. Smash attacks do less knock back / range than they had in brawl. the only thing about him that is still good is the back aerial but that isn't enough.
Roy is OP as fuck and is going to top tierlists in the end. Literally nothing weak about him except his throws but having weak throws is not a big disadvantage at all.
No longer being able to edge deny people takes away an interesting part of the game and feels like overkill on top of already removing all the tether-recoveries. RIP Ivysaur.
Fuck little mac. Whose shitty idea was that?-

Melee will always be my favorite by a mile. It was fast, and didn't contain a whole lot shitty characters I wanted yo strangle... Only Roy comes to mind.
Oh, and I destroyed anyone on Melee as Peach. I cried when her and G&W lost a lot of their power in brawl, although Ness became my new main in Brawl (fuck Lucas fanboys, Ness was better)-

Melee is the best.
Also, I've taken a game off of WestBallz in tourney. he proceeded to 4 stock me with only 27% damage...You're not going to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. S*Gaiden will not make long cases, write stunning insights, or sugar coat his words. He is not the man for multi-paragraph eloquence. He is, however, being honest to a fault, and it comes across in his writing.- GreyICE
it can help the game for people to be aware that L-1 is L-Gaiden- popsofctown-

Taking a game off Westballz is pretty amazing though.-

The Game and Watch nerfs were very sad.
I don't really enjoy Sm4sh that much. I think that is because I get dumpstered whenever I play it and so I never want to play so I never get better at it. Vicious little cycle.
I dunno if it is because I am so bad, but it seems to me like there are a lot more gimmicky characters in Sm4sh than there are in Brawl.
Gimmicky to the point that you have to use your own gimmicky character to win.
I loved Brawl. Used to dumpster my friends all the time, until they started playing all these different versions of Brawl like Brawl+, Brawl- (lol so much fun when drunk), Balanced Brawl, and Project M. We switched through so many over the course of 2 months my brain got all fucky and I completely lost the feel for how to play in Project M. Doesn't help that Project M has that annoying air dodge into freefall feature that I absolutely loathe.
Also, my brain got really fucky since Sm4sh. In Brawl, Melee, and regular, I used to almost exclusively use R to shield. Something happened to me and now I almost exclusively use L or fumble between trying to shield and grabbing.
So yeah, in short. I don't play Smash nearly enough anymore and it makes me really sad.-

None of the things mentioned made it more fun, in face maybe the opposite. Also the last point is plain wrong.Mostly retired. Unless you ask or it's something interesting.-

3DS Smash Bros was so boring and awful. Ironically the only bit I play now is smash run. It failed to take up any of the fun bits of the previous games. I refused to play the Wii U version.Mostly retired. Unless you ask or it's something interesting.-
