Yeah let's face it, we both played that game terribly. I second the korlash nomination.

I wanted to nominate Albert B. Rampage for the oscar for the best neutral, but that oscar doesn't exist. In the eventually mod abandonded game mafia 67 (viewtopic.php?t=5709) he won as jester day 1. (How do you link without having the url on?)

I stopped playing and modding here Friday the 13th, due to real life. finishing the hawks game however.

The problem with the Jester role is it subverts a major concept of Mafia which is essential to ensure that players can approach the game - namely, that there is a default behaviour and set of motivations that it is in the interests of all players to imitate (ie, town). All roles - whether they be town, Mafia, SK, or Cult (which is almost as offensive as Jester, but for different reasons) want to
look
town, and it is town's objective to discover those who are not town, based on their behaviour, and lynch them. Doing so is their
objective
in the game.

Jester totally wrecks that, and in doing so subverts the entire game.

The presence of a Jester being known does not undermine the points I made against Jesters.

I think for a jester to be interesting, it needs to be open setup, and there should be something more difficult about the task than just "get lynched anytime anywhere." There should probably be a vig in the setup.

I agree that jesters undermine the ability to assume that everybody is trying to look town, and that this isn't a good thing. But perhaps the role can be made interesting enough to balance this.

Even if a jester is uncovered as being a jester he mostly gets lynched anyway to get him out of the way. This discussion helps me to understand this. Apending to the win condition of a jester not to be called jester during the game, or to the win condition of the rest not to have lynched the jester is probably not a good solution. In closed games telling everyone that there is a jester has the same problem as using a jester in an open game. As win condition getting lynched on day4 might be more interesting, but then you are so far of that it might be useless anyway.

Sorry to have started this discussion on a wrong place :-)

I am skeptical that an "uncovered" jester would be lynched just to get him out of the way... Unless there were a lot of scum on the wagon...
