Six degrees of Kevin Bacon! LyingBrian wins!

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Tue Nov 14, 2006 2:52 am

Post by Sailor Jerry »

Six degrees - it works like this:

The names of two actors are posted in the thread. The aim is to link them together, using a chain of films in which they have appeared. For example:

1)
Tom Hanks - Sally Field
:
  • They appeared together in Forrest Gump. That's
    one
    degree of separation.
2)
Tom Hanks - Lucy Liu
:
  • Tom Hanks appeared in Forrest Gump with Sally Field.
Sally Field appeared in Steel Magnolias with Daryl Hannah.
Daryl Hannah appeared in Kill Bill with Lucy Liu.
That's
three
degrees of separation.

SCORING:
  • Whoever links the two actors together first (in six degrees or fewer) scores a point and names the next actor in the chain.

Anyone whose link connects their actors via Kevin Bacon gets a bonus point!

Anyone who can improve on a previous link at a later time (by finding a shorter link - or an equal-length one that includes Bacon) can also have a bonus point.
OK. You've seen
Tom Hanks - Lucy Liu
. Continue the chain with:

Lucy Liu - Arnold Schwartzenegger

SCORES (as at Post 86):

LyingBrian - 13
BrizzyBoi - 10
Sailor Jerry - 8

Joshua - 4
STD - 3

You're guessing :)

The game
was devised by three college students, Mike Ginelli, Craig Fass, and Brian Turtle in 1994. (Ginelli and Turtle later appeared as two members of the team "Peanut Butter and Ginelli" on 2006's VH1 World Series of Pop Culture.)

Six degrees of separation
is the hypothesis that anyone on Earth can be connected to any other person on the planet through a chain of acquaintances with no more than five intermediaries.

The hypothesis was first proposed in 1929 by the Hungarian writer Karinthy Frigyes in a short story called Chains. The concept is based on the idea that the number of acquaintances grows exponentially with the number of links in the chain, and so only a small number of links is required for the set of acquaintances to become the whole human population.
