Hydras in mini normals

I always get a kick when people complain about the distracting baggage of hydras, and most of the things are things I have refined into hydra scum tells.

All those things I mentioned: done by town hydras.

Players that look scummy can also turn out to be town. There isn't really a difference in that regard, just that the dynamic is different.

Also a mod allowing hydras into a game is explicitly saying it's not cheating.

It is a sign that the mods involved don't particularly care about the balance of their game.

I've yet to see hydras drastically affect the balance of a game. I can point you to games where Sotty and I being in a hydra was not enough to tip the game in our favor in the end.

This thread is meant to be about whether they should be considered normal though.

I'm 100% with you that hydras shouldn't be in normal games. I just want to take it a step further.

I'm not sure how you can argue for their removal from theme games, especially given that the mod might want to specifically use that aspect for a game, and have in the past.

As a sidenote, having actually played in a KK game before, it was one of my more memorable (if depressing) games on the site.

It's funny, but I've only played in one KK game, and it was also memorable and depressing. (If you've ever tried to argue with a brick wall before that's what the game was like.)

Don't disagree. Both my point is that all the hydra babbage is alignment independent. So having one slots in the game with multiple personalities means that there is 2-3 times more work for the other players.

I have no problem with hydras being a special attraction that fit in with a mod's vision. I am annoyed at the rash of "/in with a hydra, let me go find someone to hydra with" stuff in sign-ins.

Idk, it took some time for me to come to a conclusion on hydra's, but I don't think I like hydra's in games. Personally in games I've got trouble dealing with them, but that shouldn't be the argument.

I get that people have fun playing together with someone they like. I just don't know if it's worth the trouble this causes on games now and then. That starts with hydra's slowing the game down because they have to find a time to talk to the other head, in thread dissonance, generally the near immunity to meta tells as their motivations are obscured. Hydra's change the game quite fundamentaly, as already some complaints in this thread showed.

Is it so much more fun to play on one slot in stead of two together in one game, that the rest of the game has to deal with the fact that you can communicate outside the thread while the rest can't?

Hydras are technically normal. They don't have anything to do with role interactions or voting mechanisms or anything.

You can think they suck in general, I think they suck in general, but there's not really a valid line of reason to ban them in normals and not themes.

I probably feel the same way about hydras in large normals given that they're much less complex then theme games generally. I do think that players should have refuge from being forced to play with hydras at least in the confines of normal setups.

Creating a rule prohibiting hydras in Large Normal games carries the potential of reinvigorating that sub-forum.
