Playtesting of two games of Cracking Idea Mafia revealed how headachey it can be for the uninitiated (and besides that, over Skype, role-mechanical reasoning is a bit too much of a luxury, so the town is more likely to get swept up in confusion/groupthink.) It'd work better with a setup-fluent town, preferably in real life - so the game is probably doomed never to get use, but I'm fine with that. Maybe I'll write a more accessible version sometime, but I'm currently happy with that one, as I'm personally convinced it's my

contribution to the game of mafia

Who cares, it's a crapshoot? Anyway, since you're interested (lol), those specific roles are both included on the basis on being paired with other roles (e.g. the first for its chameleon goo interaction,) since I tried to make a complicated setup.

On the other hand, lynchbait, coroner, clairvoyant, traitor cop, etc, are all simple.

So, Greatest Idea was interesting, but I suspect that it reinforces the emphasis on reading people based on their discards and alignment preferences, rather than their play. With 3 cards to choose from, it's even easier to always end up with your favourite alignment, and I'm not sure that's mitigated by the separate choice of role-power.

I don't know... I'm still up for playing any of the Idea games, but I also want to play some more where no one has any control over their alignment. Back to totally randomised mafia!

Only real suggestion I can offer is to only give people cards of the same alignment and disable discard reveals, but that would probably ruin the concept in the first place.

Otherwise, I'm not sure I see a way to balance that out well enough. It's fun for some laughs, though, and there's some wacky WIFOM moments that can happen.

...You know, like me picking Saulus and getting lynched on purpose without realizing I had just become the only town in the game.
