I don't get all the dumb rules that go with titles.
People who ask for one get a slap on the wrist and cant have one? If a title fits, let them have it. I get that we don't want to force titles on people, but we're so freaking slow at this process anyways that someone asking for a title shouldn't just give them a probation period from getting one.

I haven't seen a good title come out of this yet, and trying to force a title onto someone "because they asked for it" never works out.

I agree with this. Yes, sometimes it hurts when titles are stupid. And no one likes the guy who tries to give himself a nickname (though I'll point out that with a few exceptions we are ALL using names we gave ourselves). But let's focus on the fun of it rather than the self-righteousness of it. If a name either fits or is funny or both, give them the title.

This is different from standard "asked for a title" in that he didn't even know that being given a title was a thing.

That particular post is intending to say that the argument of "he asked for a title and thus should not get one" does not apply in this situation.
