I'm running through a quasi-nuzlocke in Platinum, then I'm going to either Wedlocke Diamond or a Platinum Nuzlocke. IDK.

OKAY UPDATE BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP

Decided to continue nuzlocking FireRed, not doing any extra rules in exchange for not using the speed up button. I've realized I feel more proud if I play through the game without hyper speeding through grinding. ANYWAYS I decided to choose Charmander, since I usually go with Squirtle, and grass types are everywhere. Also, Charmander makes the early game harder I guess. SOOO I just beat Brock, and now I'm about to go into Mt Moon.

Team:
Fuego, Brave Charmeleon, Lv. 16
Basil, Adamant Rattata, Lv. 15
Mojo Jojo, Quiet Mankey, Lv. 15
Heimlich, Brave Butterfree, Lv. 15
Louie, Lax Nidoran M, Lv. 6

All of them are named after cartoon characters pretty much. Basil is from The Great Mouse Detective, Mojo Jojo is the monkey from Powerpuff Girls, and Heimlich is the caterpillar/butterfly from A Bug's Life. Lou was the porcupine in Over The Hedge, but Louie sounded better.

I guess I'll go back to Viridian Forest tomorrow morning to grind up Louie. He has Peck, which is very helpful, and I won't have to waste any Antidotes on him, added bonus. I love my team so far though, the natures aren't terrible (they're almost all speed-lowering) and Basil's is PERFECT. <3 I probably will have to let go of Heimlich soon, but I hope I can make the other 4 longterm buddies (i hate calling my Pokemon bros)

Wow, clefairy ! It's net terribly useful, but in a nuzlocke I would 100% use it just because it's so rare. It does learn most TMs making it useful to cover some weak spots your team can't hit.

Wow I hate HGSS' lack of Waterstones and TM Icebeam pre-E4. I can't evolve my poliwhirl this way (bar trading which seems to be nigh impossible on emulators as you need a non-wireless connection or something), and getting enough coins in the game corner for a TM ice beam is virtually impossible even when speeding. Blizzard makes do, but the missing is very annoying.

I feel ya on that one. I just realized the strongest move Clefairy learns by level-up is Pound, unless I want to wait til the mid-40s for Meteor Mash >.> The move tutor for Body Slam is post-E4, so I guess I'll have to teach him Mega Punch.

ruleset:
1) If a pokemon faints it dies.
2) Can use PC
3) Cannot buy items. After you beat the e4, you may buy from the mart pokeballs only.
4) Only catch the first pokemon (that you don't already have) on each route that you encounter.
5) No walkthroughs
6) Catch a legend (Title mon, musketeer trio, roaming)

I think I read somewhere that though you can get a water stone as a prize there, it's only post E4. But I'm not entirely sure.

I just beat first gym with all my pokemon at level 11

Holy fucking god I am never doing that again

So I'm healed and ready for the gym. I have a 11 snivy (crim), 11 lillipup (bea), 11 simipour (george), 4 patrat (Scout). Potions in my bag, oran berries for crim and george.

I lead with snivy, remembering that the type advantage mon comes second. Level 12 lillipup. Well, fuck, I have an oran berry, don't I? I go ahead and vine whip. Does about 1/8. My jaw drops. He uses work up. I use leer, he uses work up. I leer again...and he uses work up again. Mother of god I have totally forgotten how much better the AI is in this generation. I go ahead and click vine whip...and it does around 1/3, which makes me happy. And he bites me off for 2/3 of my health. I'm actually pretty happy, because with oran I can tank another hit...and then the opposing lillipup has pickup and picks up an oran.

FUCK. +3 Atk with an oran? FUCK.

I go ahead and vine whip once more to burn the oran while he brings me down to 2 hp. I really don't see a way out of it by this point--I thought I would wipe. I switch in scout for the sac, and switch in lillipup. While contemplating my choices, I suddenly remember that I have an X Defend in my bag from an item pickup...so I go ahead and run it on lillipup. Tanks the hit, thank god, and two hits down the opposition (outspeeds for some weird reason despite being a level lower).

Level 11 simipour shat on his level 14 brother, nothing exciting there. Incinerate burnt my berry tho.


Gotta grind more

As for my progress I've beaten Burgh. My team:

Pignite (lvl 28)
Unfezant (lvl 21)
Roggenrola (lvl 20)
Tympole (lvl 15)
Darumaka (lvl 15)
Sewaddle (lvl 14)

Darumaka is getting swapped out at first instant. Everything else gets leveled up to 25 (30 in Pignite's case).

Deaths:

1) Purrloin, Route 1
2) Pansage, Pinwheel Forest Entrance
3) Herdier, Route 4 (FREAKING RAZOR SHELL)

Ani wiped and restarted, he's on clay now

I just had a heartbreaking moment where I lost my beloved Dot the Seismitoad in Twist Mountain. :/

I'm on Skyla now, but I have freaking nothing.

I also have nothing strong vs.flying attacks, so I pulled Ferroseed (that I got from Chargestone Cave) out at the last moment and am trying to either train it or find a Hidden Power, because Cinccino has HP Rock.

Unrelated, I'd like to move more than 5 steps at a time in Chargestone Cave.
