i got Concept & Tragedy Looper!

Concept is really fun and feels like it fulfills the same niche as Codenames. We played Concept for like 4 hours last night. Really really fun.

Tragedy Looper is...
holy shit
! It's Clue on crack.

Wow, for some reason I'm really surprised Reck liked Concept. I need to get that game.

I didn't receive any games for Christmas, it's too hard to educate my gift-giving masses ;P Instead, I bought myself Word on the Street, Cash 'n' Guns and Dragon's Gold.

Dragon Racers
Is a boardgame from my current town. It's pretty good. Not intuitive until you really play it once, but good! Drafting race game. Absolute blast.

I got the Tragedy Looper expansion for Christmas. If the base game is Clue on Crack, this expansion is like... crystal meth. This shit is so insane, but so dope.

I see all of these cool games, but don't have enough people close by that are willing to play often enough to justify buying.

I play Settlers of Catan with my kid and occasionally with a bunch of friends, it's definitely better with more than two players. I have the seafarers expansion, but rarely use it.

Survive (Escape from Atlantis) is a really fun game if looking to play something not as in depth as some of the titles I see mentioned. Anyone familiar with it?

I've been thinking of getting civilization because I love the video game, can anybody with experience of the board game advise me if it's worth it? I imagine the set-up alone taking forever.

Khesh 2.0 is a decent chess type two player game using lasers and mirrors.

2 rooms and a boom looks fun but you need like 10+ people

It's honestly pretty fucking broken sadly

there are no good rules for even number of players in a room.

ex: 6 players in a room. 3 red, 3 blue. How do you dictate leadership fairly? The only rules I believe it offers is "first to vote gets it" but that ends up with games won/lost over who can say "I VOTE HIM" first.
Until I can find a way to fix that 2rooms is kind of dead to me.

Having played Two Rooms about 15 times now, I don't think that there's actually anything there beyond a bit of outguessing as to whether each team sends or keeps their VIP in the last hostage exchange. Everything else is just ineffective window-dressing - occasionally funny window-dressing, but not consequential.

it gets less fun every time I play it

I think part of the problem is that to actually be enjoyable and have interesting setups you need like 20+ people

I have a theory that mafiascum people are really bad at only sharing information when it's actually beneficial to them in 2roomz&boom because we want to figure out everything, but unless you can eke out the information in a way that everything only comes together in the last round, it does usually go to outguessing the other room's leader. Games with less than 12-15 people tend for that to happen even sooner, especially if you do the monopoly-esque *let's change the rules and accidentally make it worse* of doing 5-4-3 minute rounds instead of 3-2-1 with 10 or less players.

I do think that for it to be really good you need enough third parties for them to matter in choosing a leader in at least one of the rooms though.

the best times I've had playing 2rooms were when I was just fucking around for most of the game

not sure that's a good sign

Recently we've been playing A Fake Artist goes to New York over skype. It's good! The concept is a bit like Spyfall: all the players are told the subject of the picture they should be drawing, except for the spy (the fake artist), who is only told the category. Everyone then each contributes one line towards a group painting, in turn. After that, everyone votes to identify the spy. The spy wins if they aren't caught, or, if they are caught but then successfully guess the subject of the painting.

Here are a few of our drawings - you can play along at home!

(warning: This game is difficult and I don't think anyone could get all of these answers right - remeber the artists are trying to obscure the subject of the painting so the spy won't guess it, and the spy is trying to bluff that they know it)

Spoiler: A Fake Artist in New York
1) Category: Profession
Image
draw order: green, purple, orange, blue, black
a) Who is the spy? (which colour pen)
b) What is the profession?

2) Category: Sport

a) Who is the spy?
b) What is the sport?

3) Category: Furniture

b) What is the furniture?

4) Category: Artist

5) Category: Scummer

b) Who is the scummer?

6) Category: Animal
Image
draw order: blue, yellow, purple, red, green
a) Who is the spy?
b) What is the animal?

7) Category: Toy
Image
(draw order: purple, orange, black, red, green)
a) Who is the spy?
b) What is the toy?

8) Category: Mafia Role

Had a boardgame night on Saturday. That was fun, the games I could remember were Spyfall, Citadels (which I won), Codenames and one more that was made in Hong Kong, something about investigations and the like.

We also played Quiplash and Drawful, ahaha. I'm awful at Quiplash.

I suppose it would depend on the game.
