How do I become a better townie?

I'm in my first game here and I'm about to start a new game on a different forum, and I was just wondering if anyone had some good ways to pick out who is scum and how to not get thought to be scum.

The Mafia Scum Wiki has a lot of good articles to teach newbie players the basics of mafia. Here are some good introductory readings:

Kenji: I'm going to assume that you're the same as the Kenji on MTGS, but if it's not, then some of my advice won't apply.

Assuming that you're the same Kenji, then a 29-player game gives you quite some room to not attract suspicion. The MafiaScumWiki entry on "How to Be a Good Townie" is a good start - shutting up isn't a bad idea. On MTGS, it's a little more difficult than that, though, since there's a metagame tendency to hound potential lurkers.

I've noticed that good logic and eloquent posts definitely increase the chances that you're perceived by others to be a townie (or at least it deters them from trying to bring a case against you). Good logic is apparently not a common trait, and I find other players more reluctant to lynch logical players early on.

You also get bonus points for appearing to be genuinely trying to contribute to the town's knowledge. Those actively working to help the town are generally "cleared" by their behavior. On the flip side, those who are trying to limit the town's information or end the day prematurely will quickly be tagged as suspicious.

I think the most important quality for a townie, and indeed any player, is to play the game maturely and avoid getting pissy at other players. I've seen lots of people get upset when they start to get bandwagonned, and lash out, sulk or refuse to cooperate.

This really isn't in the town's interests, and makes the game less fun to play for everyone. Moreover if you take it in your stride and start addressing the points against you in a reasonable way, you can very often explain them away well enough to convince people to go elsewhere.
