Nope, not so long as it's kept to general theory.

Do you have anything to contribute as far as lurker policy changes or other things mentioned in this thread since it was created?

Possibly Gurgi could weigh in too.

I will let it die if nobody has any interest.

I think we've gotten a little less likely to let lurkers live. Part of that is players, part of that is mod's lowering the notposting threshold. It still could be better, but mostly that would happen if people would bloody well stick to the games they commit to, and don't overcommit.

I seem to remember a wonderful variant that Yos created where lurking gave scum free points that could be used for day-vigging or something like that...

I think it was called, "Lynch All Lurkers". :D

You know since this thread has come up, I'm sure I've seen calculated inaction cited as a scumtell at least once in game.

It's nice that there's something to call it where many players previously just had a vague sense of scumminess they couldn't put their finger on.

But, yea.

I'd add:

14.) If you can feed the fire without being obvious, feed it. Nothing kills a town as perfectly as a town-on-town fight that takes over everything.

15) kill Spyrex Night 1.

seriously, though:
In post 0, Lord Gurgi wrote:The town tends to believe that it ought to win. They are wrong, but you can take advantage of this. If someone has been on many of the major wagons, you have just found a free lynch target. Similarly, if there is someone that seems to be causing the town not to succeed, they are a good target.

Nope. I can honestly say that having accidentally led many, many, many mislynches as town---- sometimes with the thunderous fury of a thousand raging bulls--- scum don't use that to try and target me. (and indeed, would be stupid to do so)

In fact, if someone's reads are hilariously wrong, it's often better to keep them around so that they help you mislynch.

Join me on my quest to play every NES game! Some of them are awful.

Kuribo's read is foolproof: one night he was high on NyQuil, and he's ancestors reveiled Aureal's alignment to him. - Dessew

I know you're self referencing here, but on the subject I believe lurker lynches are very good, and beneficial to town in the long run (which we all end up as more often). If the scum (SCUM OF THE EARTH muahahaha... oh god) are more active, and posting things, they are easier to make interactions and be caught.
