Can we go 1.7.10 now or is it too much to constantly nag you about, ETL?
i love that you're nagging me about it.
means you're willing to make suggestions and show me what we have available for 1.7
TBH: Quite a few mods are out for 1.7 now.
The DW20 modpack is already being beta tested.
AE2 is out
Buildcraft is out.
Botania, Witchery, Random things, Pams harvest craft, Big Reactors, Mekanism, Thermal Expansion, Thaumcraft,
just to name a few.
Uh. Far more than that.
That was the first part of my thought about the pack Klaz and I made.

lol osota.. he posted it on the last page in big letters for you
Then I retract that statement and stand corrected! Thanks M for posting the link. I'll download it and start playing with it! Thanks ETL for pointing that out. I totally missed that post!
There's the link, Osota. The purple text that lists the most recent update is a hyperlink that you can follow to the pack download. I
think
it's got our configs included...? I'm not sure how much I tweaked; I don't think I changed tons from default but I honestly don't remember. That Google doc and that download are both 2 months old at this point. I might morph them into a 1.7.10 port for ETL's ScumCraft to see what she'd lose and what she'd gain from going 1.7.10.
Also, dav, it wouldn't
necessarily
involve a new world, but as always it'd be
most
more stable to restart the world. And Ender Chests are an easy way to bump things over to 1.7.10.
If you need any help with this please let me know. I would love to work on this with you guys.
Here is a summary of the 1.7.10 availability of the mods in the current server.
I also noticed a few extra ones which could be interesting. Thaumic Energistics allows putting aspects into a ME system.
Portal gun is the most significant "function" mod which is missing. A few "flavor" mods are missing, in particular the biblio support for extra wood.
Many beta versions and a couple of important ones are listed as unstable, for example biomes o'plenty.

Forestry is listed as "development" in the mcf modlist. I'm going off that list, so mods may be available but the authors did not report them. And the beta / unstable markers could be outdated.
alright. well, just to be clear - i have no plans to switch the server over for at least another month. several people just got started and are mid-projects (like sthar's thing). i know i've been saying this forever, but i want to put together a real album of our stuff. i've been collecting screenshots but i just haven't had the time to do it. i'll get to it soon.
anyway - i like to take my time with a major update like this. i'll likely go through the list of available mods over the next couple of weeks, and mark down mods to watch for. after that, it will be about putting together a draft list of what we want/don't want, new stuff, etc, and testing in SSP or if M/Klaz already have a pack together - any feedback on what you've noticed is appreciated. so that would be another couple weeks or so. and then i'll procrastinate on downloading things for like 2 weeks until blake or dav yell at me enough. and i'll throw everything together over a weekend for us to test on the server. it will explode, i'll break it a couple of times, and then we'll fix it and be good to go for 1.7.; so about 1 to 2 months -ish.
how's that sound? XD
You're my friends now. We're having soft tacos later!

Can we wait for 1.8 (if you plan on updating to a 1.8 shortly after) and try to get a modpack that we keep stable for 6+ months? I think we could do lots of cool things if we had one chance of a longer stable period.

Like what? The longer the period, no matter the world, the fewer people play.
Proven. Period. Done.
Also 1.8 Anything-Modded will be FAR too long to just sit around in 1.6.4 waiting for an update. Almost everything we'd want to play with is updated to 1.7.10 and it's getting polished there and it's not going any further for a long time.

Hey can someone add Gabegonzo to the whitelist for Modded and Vanilla? My friend Gabe created a new account "Gabegonzo" for himself and has given his son (who is also named Gabe) his other account which is already whitelisted. He wants to jump on and play on the servers with his son.

Basically this. Forge devs have said that 1.8 forge isn't going to be around for a LONG while and, even when it does come around, the mods aren't going to update right away.
