Mini 1040 - Everyone's A Critic.

A faint metallic click sounded as the last bullet slid into its slot. His finger ran across the case, spining the ammunition smoothly through its rotations. As it slowed, a quick pushed locked the section into place, and the gleaming revolver was loaded. He set the revolver in the center of the round, battered table that the assembled twelves found themselves sitting at.

"Welcome. Your presence here is for one purpose. My enjoyment. You will play a game, it will be violent, some of you will die. Getting out is simple. Win the game."
"You see the revolver in front of you? It will be spun. Whoever it points to gets to use it. Shoot someone. Then pass it on. Just hope you don't give it to the wrong person."

He chuckled at the thought.

"There's only a few bullets but that should surely be enough. Most of you will be gone long before then. Enough of that...lets enjoy ourselves, shall we?"

With that, the revolver was spun.

Game Rules:

General Gameplay:
  1. The Moderator has the final say in any dispute. Refusal to accept these decisions may be considered a modkillable offense depending on the severity. Although the Moderator may be the official voice, the Moderator is not infallible. If there is a mistake or you have a question, do not hesitate to inform the Moderator through private message or through the use of bold text within the thread.
  2. Dark-Red
    and
    Indigo
are the Moderator's colors. Do NOT use them. Doing so is considered impersonating the Moderator and is a punishable offense.
  3. Any and all communication with the Moderator must remain strictly confidential. It is acceptable to paraphrase, for actions such as role claims. If in doubt whether your paraphrase is acceptable, ask the Moderator and assume it is unacceptable until confirmed otherwise.
  4. The use of timestamps in any way is considered quoting Moderator communication and therefore is prohibited. The order in which Role PM's have been sent has been randomized to directly combat this.
  5. Any
    game-relevant
personal communication outside of the game thread, unless clearly specified in your role PM, is
    strictly prohibited.

  6. Do not post the links to any QuickTopics that may or may not be available within the game. Doing so is considered a modkillable offense.
  7. Claiming to be scum, or someone's scumbuddy, is against any and all win conditions and therefore is prohibited.
  8. The use of invisible, small, or encrypted text is prohibited. Use your judgment, if it is unreadable by the Moderator, it is unacceptable.
  9. Using loopholes in the rules is considered against the spirit of the game and is a punishable offense. This does not refer to special game mechanics, merely the general gameplay rules. Example is faking a vote to trap players.
  10. Anything it is illegal to do is also illegal to fake.
  11. Modkills will be done in a fashion deemed most detrimental to your faction. Your faction will then be converted to
    Neutral Survivor
, and as such are autolossed.
Voting, Deadlines, Death, and Activity:
  1. As a general guideline, players should aim to post at least once every day (the more the better).
  2. If you anticipate an extended leave from the game, inform the Moderator either in thread or through a private message.
  3. Players who go for more than
    72
hours will be prodded. If you are prodded and do not respond within
    24
    hours, you will be replaced.
  4. Players receiving more than
    3
prods throughout the game's entirety will be force-replaced. Replacements reset the prod counter.
  5. This game will be run with a flexible 3 week deadline. If activity is found lacking, deadline will be shortened.
  6. Votes must be bolded or they will not be counted. (ex.
    Vote: PlayerName
    ).
  7. Unvotes must also be bolded or will not be counted (ex.
    Unvote
    or
    Unvote: PlayerName
). Unvotes are appreciated but not required.
  8. Shortening of usernames or the use of nicknames is acceptable in votes, but will only be counted if the Moderator can clearly distinguish which player you are voting for.
  9. It requires a majority of the currently available votes for a Lynch to occur. Majority is equal to half of the available votes plus one rounded down.
  10. If players so choose, they may vote for No Lynch, and No Lynch will be reached if at least 50% of the currently available votes are placed on No Lynch.
  11. Once the majority required for a Lynch is reached, votes are locked in place and cannot be rescinded. The same policy applies to No Lynches as well. Discussion during twilight, the period of time before the mod scene is posted, is acceptable.
  12. If at deadline there is no majority, No Lynch will occur. If there is a tie at deadline, No Lynch will occur.
  13. As soon as the Moderator posts your death scene, you are considered removed from the game. You are allowed one content-less "bah." post following your death. It is acceptable for the Lynchee to post during twilight before their lynch scene is posted.
  14. Play to win, but remember this is a game. It is understandable to be aggressive, yet personal attacks will not be tolerated. Be considerate of the other players within the game, and hopefully enjoy it yourself!
Special Mechanics/Specifics:
  1. This is a
    Closed
Setup. There are NO Jesters, Cult, or Survivors.
  2. There is a Vigilante ability present within the game.

  3. Each night, the current holder of the ability may use the Vigilante kill if they so choose.
  4. Following the use of the Vigilante ability (or lack thereof), the current holder must select a player to pass the ability on to. The ability will then move on to the selected player for their use. If the player the selected dies before receiving the weapon, the holder may select another target within 24 hours.
  5. A clarification of Action Resolution:
The passing of the Vigilante ability onto another player occurs last in the series. Therefore, a kill targeted at the owner of the ability on night start will successfully eliminate the ability.
  6. The Vigilante Ability stacks with any ability you may have in your original Role PM.
  7. [
    Updated.
]Scum may not pass the Vigilante ability onto their partners.
Clarifications on Rule Updates:

Inclusion of Rule 7 of Special Mechanics/Specifics: This inclusion clarifies the restrictions on passing the Vigilante Ability. There is supposed to be some penalty incurred for scum receiving the Vigilante Ability. This penalty is the extra death of town member. By limiting the penalty to one extra kill per each mistake on the town's part, it allows this penalty to be exercised, without letting the penalty become game-ending or breaking.

Sample Vanilla Townie Role PM:

Abilities:

You have no special abilities besides your smarts and vote! Use them wisely, and hopefully you'll make it out alive.
*At no time may you privately communicate with any other player.

Town Win Condition:
You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive, whether you are alive or not.
[Standard Factional Win Condition.]

Game Topic is here: Mini 1040 - Everyone's A Critic.

Reply by PM to confirm you understand your role and win condition.

Vigilante Role Message:
Mod wrote:You have gained possession of the
Vigilante Ability.

Abilities:

Bringing Justice:
During the Night you are in possession of the ability, you may select one player to kill.
Share the Power:
You
MUST
select a player to pass this ability onto next. It is advised to send your kill and player choice in the same message. Failure to select a player choice will result in the choice being randomized.

This Ability may be used in conjunction with any preexisting abilities your original Role PM may contain. It does not in any way modify your alignment.

Hi

Ok, just a few things we know now already.

1. Kunkstar has asked someone to review this game (most likely), just check the New Setup Review thread. I thought it to be his second post. We may therefor assume we are in a balanced setup.
2. if scum would get the Vig ability, they would pass it around the team, thereby creating a second mafia kill. The mechanic would be useless, and almost never 2 mafia kills are balanced in a mini, so the current Vig is a townie.
tomorrow, the first thing this "vig" must do, is claim that he was the vig the first day. He is from then on a confirmed townie
.

there is a second kill, most likely the mafia's. A 12 player game is hardly balanced if there are 3 kills or more, so we might assume we have only 1 scumteam to take care of, most likely a 3 membered one.

4. In a 9-3 setup with 2 kills, after today's lynch, tomorrow could be our last lynch. After a mislynch and a misvig d1 and n1, 6-3 remains. If the same happens again, we lose. With 4 tries before this happens, though, I don't think we should be that worried.

I have very good reason to believe there are only two scum...gives us a bit more leeway.

Don't change the subject.

That subject change was pretty scummy.

by mykonian
is this the "vote xscorpion till the game blows" game?

sorry, I'm not playing. I'll give you a hint. What you want, is to make xscorpion the
second
bandwagon target. By then, he has usually done something that could be explaned as scummy. Bandwagoning him then will make the case grow, discusion starts, everybody happy.

But starting with xscorpion is opportunistic. Scum knows he has trouble at the start of the game, so they will vote him right away. This is easy, and scum hopes this sets them up for an easy day.
