Mini 964: Another Story - Over!

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Thu Apr 29, 2010 1:28 pm

Post by Azelf »

A long time ago in a universe far, far away, there was a peaceful island village called Yiclis. Everyone had a nice job, a good family, and was assured of their position in life; the children never misbehaved, and the teachers were actually paid well. It was a very happy, albeit very boring, place.

But they were naive.

They couldn't see the signs. The happiness... the peacefulness... their village's name being an anagram of Sicily...

And when the Mafia came in, all they had to defend themselves with was a length of rope.

NOW!
You, the Townies, must work together to hang the Mafia before they can figure out how to kill you all and make it look like an accident!

SIMILARLY!
You, the Mafia members (you know who you are), must work together to not get hanged by the townies!

These are the rules. Breaking them is inadvisable.
1. I demand bold votes. No bold = no vote.
2. Unvote first. It's not required, but it saves time.
3. No unvotes after you've lynched someone. Make sure to check whether you'll lynch someone BEFORE your vote, not after.
4. I reserve the right to throw arbitrary deadlines at you. If the lynch is undecided before that time, then there will be no lynch that day.
5. No talking about the game outside the game. (Unless your role PM says you can.) No talking about the game at night.
6. Dead people usually don't talk.
7. No small text.
8. Do not edit or delete posts.
9. Don't quote PMs.
10. Night choices are due by deadline. If I don't get it by then, you do nothing.
11. If you think you won't be able to get on for more than 48 hours, tell me. Having to get replacements is tiresome.
12. Don't use colorful text. Nobody likes it, and I might find something I can use it for.
13. If you don't understand your role, ask me about it. (Through PM).
14. If you think I screwed up, tell me.
15. Remember, we're supposed to be playing a game here.

Here is the Townie's role PM, because townies are unimportant enough for me to show it to you.
TOWNIE
You are a Townie! You never took the time to do anything special with your life, and you have no redeeming skills or qualities whatsoever. You can, however, vote on who to lynch, which is far more valuable than many people presume.
You win with the town.
Please /confirm once you receive your role. Once you have all /confirmed, the game will begin.

So, how's things? I'd just to like everyone, how much experience do you have with mafia? I've personally played about 3-4 games offsite and this is my third on-site.
Also, hey Deer, how's it going?

I haven't played in almost 2 years now I think. Before that I would guess I played around 10-15 games. (Dozens if Scumchat games count)

Played several, but regrettably, my Town record has been shoddy. Now that I'm back and have read games before coming back *goes on to rant and brag for about 5 minutes about how I'm going to rock this game and kick the Mafia's ass*

If you want to hear me rant, cheer, cry, blather, and reflect on my past games, go to the YGDB linked in my sig.

Interesting how there are two Thieves in the building.

Seeing as we are about to start soon, I have some questions to ask everybody.

1. Do you prefer a faster paced game or a slower game with discussion?

2. Do you think online mafia is more a psychological game or a logic game?

3. On day 1, do you think that a random lynch is better than no lynch?

4. Do you think that WIFOM is a scumtell?

5. Do you think that OMGUS is a scumtell?

6. Would you classify your playstyle as aggresive, analytical, passive or other (if so, state what).

My answers are:
1. I prefer a slower game with more discussion, you get more data to work with.
2. I think that online mafia is a logic game, trying to piece together things which just don't fit to decide who is right and who is dead.
3. I think that on day 1, a random lynch still has a chance of catching scum, and even if it doesn't, it gives more data to work with, eliminating a person as possible scum.
4. An excess of WIFOM and solely WIFOM is a scumtell.
5. OMGUS is either a sign of newbiness or careless scum.
6. I'd classify myself as analytical.

Just so that we get to know everyone. :D

Good luck everyone, let's go!

1. I prefer faster paced game because i'm easily bored. But still I need every person to tell their thoughts each turn. I just don't like when there is a lot of talk between two players about something trivial.

2. I think it is more psychology for the scums, and early in the game for the towns. Later it becomes more of a logic game, but I think psychology is more important than logic.

3. I'm not sure. I haven't played enough yet. I think it's better to lynch since it might be important later. Also without the intent to lynch scums don't feel the tension and therefore they may show fewer tells.

4. Yes, but not always. Some people have that way of reasoning loud. I think its more common among inexperienced scums.

5. No, more like newbiness or a sign that the person has fixed his mind that the suspect is guilty or something. But As I said I am somewhat new to this game.

6. Sadly I have to say Passive. I have played only large games earlier and I have felt that it becomes to much for me to comprehend with so many players. Also my bad english skills makes it harder to write down my theories, which makes me a bit lazy.

I like answering questions like this :)

1. Leans to the first one.
2. Depends on the power of roles.
3. Not random (well possibly random) but a lynch is better than a no lynch apart from in rare instances.
4. Yeah
5. True OMGUS yes. Voting someone who voted you for reasons, no.
6. Helping the team get what it needs. (I ask questions, support other's cases but I'm not the world's greatest at analysis.)

1. I get bored with slow paced games unless everyone is contributing. If we don't have any lurkers, I find slower paced games very rewarding.

2. Both

3. Random lynch. You have to shake up the pot in order for the scum to slip.

4. Sometimes. In this other game I am playing, I was the doctor and I acted scummy intentionally so the mafia wouldn't kill me at night.

5. It can be.

6. Aggressive. I am here to play so lurkers beware. I am going actively pressure Azelf to prod and replace any lurkers. I hate lurkers, they ruin the game.

That said, gl all. 8-)

1. Faster. Apathy kills Town if it gets out of hand.
2. Both. Like wondering why you started the RQS.
3. Random lynch. NL is uninformative and stupid.
4. Not a catch-all.
5. Not a catch-all.
6. Wildly swingy.

@Red_Star: Why are you starting off with Random Questioning Stage? It's an absolutely pointless vehicle for starting discussion, and allows scum to contribute without fear. ANYBODY can answer these questions eloquently and look like a pro-town player.

Too bad I can't vote right now.

While I agree that random questions don't really accomplish much. But I don't see how a few questions could possibly be used by scum to get town cred. It seems like you're thinking like scum here without necessity. Seeing as I'm not fond of random voting, good enough to warrant a
